What a great proposal! Such a great story! Thanks for sharing.

Broccoli elastic as a rubber gripper around the needle, while holding the cord steady with the t-pin. A good twist and my chiaogoo never come apart. Don't give up on them yet! Also, for magic loop, I find there is a magic length: too long and the floppy loops are cumbersome - too short and there is tension on the knitting. For me 30" total is juuuust right.

And this is why all of my Chiaogoo needles are fixed circulars. Except I do have the Forte needles which have the Swiv360 cords instead of the red lace ones. I find that for me, they come undone a lot less often. But in general, interchangeable needles drive me BATS and I mostly only buy fixed circulars now. The Chiaogoos are relatively inexpensive, too, so i just keep buying what I need so I don’t have to steal from other projects.

I gave up on interchangeable needles for exactly the reason you mention. Even using the t-pin to tighten still results in them loosening up. Drives me nuts. So I use fixed circulars almost always. Peg, feel better soon! Every time I see that sweater I think : I Have to knit it! And I purchased the hat pattern that is supporting Ashville fiber folks.

Just another suggestion for the Chiaogoo interchangeables along with the t pin tool you need to use the rubber gripper to help tighten. I use these needles all the time and they never come apart as long as I use that gripper. Peg is will see you on Sat.

Try Addi Click needles...German made interchangeable needles that click and really lock into place. I have never had them come apart while knitting like with other " screw top" interchangeable.s Not inexpensive but for me they have been a great investment and mine are over 10 years old. Great episode, love that the Mill was the setting for an engagement !

Interested in what you said about the Cormo that needed more washing. I remember talking to some fiber gurus about challenges cleaning some of the finewools (and some of the dense stapled finer medium wools) that have a sort of sticky feel when they are raw. They talked about how important it is to soak them in just room temp water for up to a couple of hours or more to dissolve the potassium salts in them before putting them through your usual hot water scour process. They also said that if you don't do it first, it can be nearly impossible to get that stickiness out of the wool (even after it's washed). Just passing that along! Keep up the great work!

Another great episode--thanks! I hope that you're both back to full fighting trim soon and that Peg and Liz have a great festival this weekend. Wish I were going to New England, but it's quite a hike from the DC area. Re. interchangeables: I've just accepted that I'll periodically have to rescue my stitches from the ditch as the needle starts to twist off. I must have a very, um, vigorous knitting motion.

Peg, LOVE your Smoked Orange sweater! What yarn did you use? It looks like it would take forever to knit but is so beautiful that I’m tempted. FYI - Addi makes their “Click” interchangeable needles that do lock into place without a tightening tool, but I don’t like the join. It’s not as smooth as the ChiaoGoo Interchangeable needles. Hope you have a great time at the New England Fiber Festival and wish I lived close enough to attend!

Greetings Ladies! I just recently discovered your channel and I am so enjoying getting to know you both and all about the Mill and your yarns. I'm a new/novice knitter and I'm working on my first Musselburgh (I purchased Ysolda's pattern) - I am using Fingering Weight Yarn and size 2/32" circulars - I have just finished the crown and was wondering if I should switch to 16" to do the tube? Also, Amanda what size needles were you using and what yarn weights do you ladies think work best? Looking forward to continuing catching up with past Mill-Casts. thanks!

Amanda, I am curious about the amount of yarn you used for your Hunting Season Musselborough Hat. Was it more than one skein? I have made a one skein Hunting Season hat using the Morning Walk pattern and I have made many Musselborough hats using a single skein of fingering yarn, but I was worried that one skein wouldn't be enough to make the Musselborough. Thanks!
