When the original was released in 1977 I was 8 years old and a real sci-fi nerd. Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Space 1999...all of those were my faves. This film grabbed me by the balls and altered my life. I can still remember riding in the back of my parents 1972 Chrysler Town & Country Station Wagon with the fake wood panel on the side and I always sat in the rear facing rumble seat in the very back and just letting that film soak into my soul. That Christmas they got me this huge book that had all the hand drawn cutaways and stats of all the ships, races, planets, everything in the Star Wars universe. I would have flipped my lid at your channel. I still do. Anyways, I really like all your breakdown videos and filling in the blanks on some old questions that I always had. For a fictional universe, it has become almost an alternate reality. Cool huh?

You would think the rebels would have had a few of there own converted into fighter bombers considering the modification potential and they were cheaper than a Xwing
@casbot716 жыл бұрын
CHESHIRE CAT YT -1300 GTI A rebel light corvette based around the YT-1300 would be an interesting concept. Include all the speed and maneuverability modifications of the Millennium Falcon, just improve the reliability with a good service. Strip out all the cargo space and amenities and add extra quad guns and shields and a large compliment of concussion missiles. It would make a good hit and run raider that could disguise itself as a civilian freighter to get in close to targets in high traffic areas. Launch a salvo of missiles at heavy targets and annoy the crap out of starfighters with its extreme maneuvering and point defense guns. And outrun anything. It would also work in pitched battles where it would once again destroy enemy fighters and launch concussion missiles at high value targets and could get close enough to make intercepting the missiles very difficult while targeting subsystems. And just be a pest with its zipping around the battlefield doing straffing runs. The advantage of it's civilian design is logistics, getting a bunch of them would be easy for the rebels, who then upgrade it's systems with military components.

I am assuming that the costs of the YT-1300 is without any of the concussion missiles and quad laser turrets and so forth, because the TY-1300 was so modifiable. I would bet that the x-wing price, being chiefly a military starfighter would have included armaments in its price. Thus, the price of a YT-1300 other than as a simple freighter would go up pretty fast, and a fully modded out one like the Millennium Falcon would cost way way more.

And just be a pest with its zipping around the battlefield doing straffing runs. The advantage of it's civilian design is logistics, getting a bunch of them would be easy for the rebels, who then upgrade it's systems with military components. Another variant, a bounty hunter ship. Same advantage of speed, maneuverability and most importantly, discretion. Slave one may be a formidable ship, but it's also very recognisable. It gets spotted and anyone with a bounty on them knows to be on guard, hell the spaceport will be buzzing with news of the Fetts arrival. But a YT-1300 is ubiquitous in general traffic and allows you to sneak in and out. Give it the Millennium Falcon handling pack, weapons, sensors, ect. Add ion weaponry for stopping ships to capture targets or making quick get aways from heavy combat vessels. Throw in some of the useful extras from Slave One, tracking gear, bombs ect and modify the cargo hold, some of it is cells for prisoner transport, while some is kept as cargo just for cover at a spaceport. Can do everything Slave One does, carry more, and not stand out.

The maximum atmospheric speeds of these ships are far slower than I expected. If the Millennium Falcon was on Earth or a planet with a similar atmospheric density it would be transonic at low altitude and just barely supersonic above 40,000 feet it would have a few miles per hour advantage on a lightly loaded 747-200 at 40,000 feet . However if it can fly at 650 MPH at low altitude that eliminates most air turbine powered threats leaving a few fighters with highly loaded wings that can deal with dense air and nasty turbulence . I assume from the movies that it must be built like a tank and there is certainly an excess of thrust available considering it is faster than light so I think this ship should be able to reach a solid Mach 5 at low altitude.

A ship that was built with easy maintenance yeah that might be a good sales pitch the only problem the ship usually has was a very touchy hyper-drive system motivator that could be easily disabled rendering the ship capable of making the jump to hyperspace when it's hit hard enough from constant enemy fire like what happened to the Millennium Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back which forced the Falcon's captain Han Solo to take the ship to Cloud City to see the ships previous owner Lando Calrissian for help and repairs and they were able to repair the damaged hyper-drive motivator till it was disabled by the Empire and was restored to working order in time by an Astro-Mech droid.
