Here's the thing...the SW universe says that the YT-1300 was the most common freighter in the Galaxy. Yet we only ever see one in use. (Not counting Easter Eggs, which are usually supposed to be the Falcon anyway). They don't seem that widespread to me. That's like watching the entire Fast and Furious franchise and only ever seeing one Honda Civic.

When the original was released in 1977 I was 8 years old and a real sci-fi nerd. Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Space 1999...all of those were my faves. This film grabbed me by the balls and altered my life. I can still remember riding in the back of my parents 1972 Chrysler Town & Country Station Wagon with the fake wood panel on the side and I always sat in the rear facing rumble seat in the very back and just letting that film soak into my soul. That Christmas they got me this huge book that had all the hand drawn cutaways and stats of all the ships, races, planets, everything in the Star Wars universe. I would have flipped my lid at your channel. I still do. Anyways, I really like all your breakdown videos and filling in the blanks on some old questions that I always had. For a fictional universe, it has become almost an alternate reality. Cool huh?

CHESHIRE CAT YT -1300 GTI A rebel light corvette based around the YT-1300 would be an interesting concept. Include all the speed and maneuverability modifications of the Millennium Falcon, just improve the reliability with a good service. Strip out all the cargo space and amenities and add extra quad guns and shields and a large compliment of concussion missiles. It would make a good hit and run raider that could disguise itself as a civilian freighter to get in close to targets in high traffic areas. Launch a salvo of missiles at heavy targets and annoy the crap out of starfighters with its extreme maneuvering and point defense guns. And outrun anything. It would also work in pitched battles where it would once again destroy enemy fighters and launch concussion missiles at high value targets and could get close enough to make intercepting the missiles very difficult while targeting subsystems. And just be a pest with its zipping around the battlefield doing straffing runs. The advantage of it's civilian design is logistics, getting a bunch of them would be easy for the rebels, who then upgrade it's systems with military components.

I am assuming that the costs of the YT-1300 is without any of the concussion missiles and quad laser turrets and so forth, because the TY-1300 was so modifiable. I would bet that the x-wing price, being chiefly a military starfighter would have included armaments in its price. Thus, the price of a YT-1300 other than as a simple freighter would go up pretty fast, and a fully modded out one like the Millennium Falcon would cost way way more.

But a YT-1300 is ubiquitous in general traffic and allows you to sneak in and out. Give it the Millennium Falcon handling pack, weapons, sensors, ect. Add ion weaponry for stopping ships to capture targets or making quick get aways from heavy combat vessels. Throw in some of the useful extras from Slave One, tracking gear, bombs ect and modify the cargo hold, some of it is cells for prisoner transport, while some is kept as cargo just for cover at a spaceport. Can do everything Slave One does, carry more, and not stand out.

One thing i find interesting and telling. The YT-1300 was the smallest ship prior to the X-wing to have inertial Dampeners. While that might not seem like a big statement... consider for a moment, Prior to that, starfighters would be limited in G-forces to prevent pilots from blacking out, in fact IG-88's ship had this problem, where IG-88 couldn't push his engines if he had prisoners on board because they wouldn't survive the G-forces. that means most ships would be limited to 9 G's in turns or straight thrust, with some pilots or civilians being limited to 4-6 g's.

The yt1300 had standard double blasters opposite the cockpit not on top or bottom of the ship. The cannon placement on the falcon was done by Lando before Hand got her. Read the Lando trilogy before you speak on the Falcon.

I was just thinking... Top speed for the Falcon is under 700 mph. Just to reach low orbit, it would need to achieve 18,000 mph. Watching episode 4, A New Hope, they "blasted" out of Los Isly and achieved something like 500 miles above the planet in about 30 seconds. That would about double the minimum speed needed to achieve low orbit. So, all this means to me is that speeds in Star Wars movies are relative to how space scenes need to play out for them to look cool to the audience. Thus, the specs for ship speeds is mostly irrelevant. If the Falcon's top speed is less than 700 mph then, it could never get into space.

Yeah, all the speeds for ships are really dumb, it was honestly something I hope would get swept away with new Canon ships and vehicles guides but they didn't. There are inconsistencies with sizes too sometimes but those are kept in cannon too

Yeah, and the bombers on The Last Jedi are slower than the Bombers from WWII. These very slow speeds would be problematic for space... The Xwings would take weeks to get from Yavin's moon to the Deathstar. In order to reach orbit - a rocket (spacecraft) and go into orbit - you're looking at about 18,000MPH. (And faster than a bullet). And In order to escape Earth's gravity (or many typical planets that can support life) then you're talking about 25,000 MPH. (Also the speed Apollo traveled to the moon. - which still took 3 days) 600~700MPH is so very very slow for ships that are supposed to handle FTL travel. PS: New Horizons (Pluto Probe) and Voyagers are traveling at about 36,000MPH.

It's sub-light speed is only 652 mph. That wouldn't get you anywhere in space! Maybe that just refers to in atmosphere flight. The Apollo space craft traveled between 2000-5000 mph going to the moon and that still took four days!

I’m confused, why 600 mph? I can understand that being the atmospheric speed, assuming it’s an earth like atmosphere, but in space? I would think it would go much faster, not withstanding the hyperdrive, just regular “flying”.

The cited speeds seem laughably slow, even by Earth standards. It would be far more realistic to indicate sublight capabilities in terms of acceleration. FTL might be best expressed as a meaningful function of the speed of light to understand relative speed capability. Would be interested if this was ever imagined?
