Being a millennial watching the lifecycle of online shitposting since 2003, the trends have more to do with an individual's age than the actual generation they're in. When we were Alpha's age we loved nonsensical and chaotic humor that would have been absolutely grating to current Zoomers in their late teens and early 20s Thing is that the vast majority of it was on forums and flash animation sites that vanished even before KZbin became mainstream; if Z and Alpha had been able to see what 13 year old millennials were watching, it wouldn't seem all that different from the "Skibidi rizz" content that Alpha is being mocked for, albeit with much lower visual quality due how bare bones video editing software was at the time. Gen Z has already observed that early Millenial humor was also incredibly repetitive. We were treading the water in video editing and had dumber software to work with, so something as simple as looping and reversing scenes was novel humor. That's why videos like the This is Sparta Remix, They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard, and 1.21 Gigawatts Redux still make me chuckle. It was novel humor at the time, but now it's been done to death. It's a common trend that humor doesn't tend to age well.

I literally did my taxes the day my employer gave me my W2. I did my taxes so early, the tax software said “we filed your federal, but your state doesn’t allow you to file this early. I just recently read David Foster Wallace's essay on television and despite it being from the early 90s, so much of it still resonated today with his descriptions of the blending of entertainment and advertisement. We are now at the point where the majority of our entertainment comes from content creators where there is no longer even a line between the two. Even something as simple as cute puppy videos is simultaneously an advertisement for Chewy. Even the act of commenting has become commodified as para social relationships drive viewers to get the good brain chemicals from likes and hearts. It becomes its own addiction that sucks away our attention from the thing we actually enjoy and have to do. Like my taxes, I know I can procrastinate until the last minute and still get them done easy with H&R Block!

I'm really jonesing to write to my representatives to accept any and all "gifts" of a "personal nature" as to not have to legally declare them on their Financial Disclosure Report. Guys, I really think it's a good idea to incentivize a system in which the common man is required to give all their independence to a private company in order to not be financially ruined because of restrictions and confusion that said private company had bribed political figures to create and maintain.
