Wait, that's an argument anyone makes? "You suck because you like instrumentation and good song structure!" I like quite a few zoomer songs, but man, who hates Mumford and Sons? People with freezer temp IQs? Too many notes played at once? Oh no, he strummed an entire chord! We're losing our freedoms to an Orwellian plutocratic one-world conspiracy, and we're arguing over this? If this is where our focus is, we deserve all the slavery we're going to get.

I’m a semi-older millennial (went to high school in the early 2000s). I’ve caught myself grumbling about Gen Z over the same crap for which Boomers used to criticize us. It gave me some healthy perspective to just relax and laugh.
@briannaselina
@briannaselina 7 ай бұрын
I honestly agree with this so much. I have some gripes with Gen Z, but I have some gripes with *every* generation, including my own. I’m probably a just a little bit older than you, I skipped an early grade, and was in high school for the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Having close to a whole generation age gap between my sister and I, who has always been one of my best friends, I’ve been told I’m a “Millennial/Gen X Cusper” (sounds a bit too much like astrology to me) because I grew up with and loved a lot of the things that my sister did, and we came from a liberal hippie family that didn’t act like Boomers, and in fact thought most of them were assholes. I like my skinny jeans because they’re more comfortable to me. I don’t even have a hair part because I usually have bangs and like to tease my hair if I’m not wearing a wig. (80’s much?) None of that shit matters; just do you. In my lines of work, I spend time and communicate with all sorts of people from other generations, and only two instances have really given me a slap back about Gen Z, because I’m not used to it, having two super sweet Gen Z nieces. One, while trying to give genuine constructive criticism to someone, which I realised later may have been a little harsh, someone else jumped all over me and told me that everything I said was untrue, to check my facts and get woke, other rude things, etc. Another time, I responded to a video essay that I thought was really well done, and again, someone other that the original creator was like “TLDR; 16-35 is f*cking old.” Which baffled me. Yes, I tend to leave longer comments, because I’m not going to bother with leaving a comment and not truly say what’s fully on my mind. But I never said anything about being old. I don’t feel old. I don’t think I’m old. No one looks at me and thinks I’m old - often people think I’m *part of* Gen Z, even though it isn’t my stage to stand on any more, it’s not my spotlight. I just stated that I related and appreciated what the person had discussed, even though I was a bit outside of the 16-35 year old audience he was directing his piece to. Both times I got kind of irritated but in the end, I was just like “Thanks, that doesn’t really hurt, if you’re hurting, I hope it’s not for long because this kind of thing isn’t worth it. Cheers.” Even two years after the posting of this video, it still feels like any small step could add firepower to an unnecessary and really dumb war. In just a few years, more of us than ever will be working together and age won’t be anything but a number to yet another generation. It’s a part of the cycle. This comment is also really long. I want to say that I’m sorry, but I’m not. I’m a published writer and video game creator. I don’t have the guts to get behind a camera and have a KZbin channel (and therefore, I commend anyone who does, that is not using their platform in a toxic way). My words and my art are what I’ve got to work with. No one has to read or engage with my comments if they don’t want to. But sometimes I think it’s nice to be able to tell someone, regardless of generation, what they did was great and not have to squeeze it into the character maximum of a Tweet. So, I’m going to live my life and do what I do, maintaining whatever cool I have left, and hope I still get the chance to meet cool new people, continue writing and illustrating, and taking things in stride, skinny jeans, skinny legs, and all. (No one worry or sound the alarm, that joke was for me; I love dad jokes *and* Tom Robbins.). 💖
@briannaselina

@@user-fv9se5op4g So do I. I personally think it’s too early for the revival, as I’m still waiting for the 90’s revival to stick (which I’ve come to realize probably won’t ever happen, because those of us who lived though and loved the nineties will never truly let it go - sometimes I think I’m forever living in 1992 and I’m totally okay with that - people will be trying to pull the 90’s out of our cold, dead, hands), but the music of the early aughts, in particular, especially after 2002 was just amazing. I still listen to it often, and am always [probably a bit overly] excited when I hear it used in a film or series. It gives me a feeling of nostalgia that’s just a little bit different from the others, but I can’t seem to place my finger on why.

I'm a Genx'er and it's wild to me watching this "Generation (xyz etc)" unfold over the past 40 freaking years. When what I think everyone's missing is that the original name was a derogatory term, it was meant to brand us, and the media onslaught was intense for our formative years. Just like you. That X a lot of my generation simply took as a badge of pride for whatever it is we were supposed to have done wrong. For life, basically disappear us from the table, and it did. It's wild to me that every generation is being named and shamed in the same way. It just serves to make us further atomize and disintegrate. Cue Robert Smith please.

As a Gen Z kid in middle school 10+ years ago, I remember disliking millennials & getting annoyed with being associated with them and wondering when the distinction between my generation and theirs would be more acknowledged lol. An easy way to think of it is a millennial is someone who can remember 9/11 and and life before the turn of the millenium (2000), and if you were a little kid at that time or younger and can't remember then you're gen Z. I think the only reason gen Z is getting more focus now is because all of gen z are young adults and teenagers and can actually make their own money and buy stuff now.

I’m Gen X & I loved this, you hit the nail on the head, on what it’s all about… We’re all terrified of getting older, not being this, not being that & looking back & seeing a usually crappy past via rose tinted lenses & how wonderful it all seemed, all our lives have highs & lows, we wore the perfect dress, or we didn’t or listened to the best groups (GnR) etc etc etc It’s all relative, every generation becomes the past, every single one of us does too, we’re all born, we all live, we all die, but the in between years are where we stamp our mark, & not because of the clothes we wear/wore or the films & music we liked, but the life we lived, in reality, not online, not on bloody Twitter or ticktock but in our actual lives with people we know & love & care for, the experiences we build with them, the actual tangible relationships & feelings, they don’t give a damn about what’s online, they care about the person sitting next to them holding their hand like they never want to let it go, the person cooking their dinner, making their breakfasts, it’s called REALITY Life’s worth more than stupid internet banter & fights, I had someone really special pass away a year & a bit ago, she was the epitome of alive & not giving a sh*t what anyone else thought or said, she was beautiful & I’m not just saying that, she was a total blonde bombshell knockout stunning, she had a hard life, but didn’t let it get her down. I can’t help but think of what she’d say to such an utterly STUPID online trash talk, & laugh, because she’d of been doing just that, poking fun at them & laughing as though there was no tomorrow. Sadly for her that proved to be true, but wherever she is now, if she could watch this, she’d of thought the same damn thing. It’s nearly Midnight NYE 2023, I’ve watched this channel since 9pm as it have me something to watch, oh yeah, & because your hilarious along with intelligent subjects So Happy New Year from NZ in 2024 … I’m going to post this at midnight 🎉🥳🥂🍾🇳🇿

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. I was born early 1998 and have been trying to voice these exact things for so long. It's such a weird time to be born for us people specifically born between 1996-1998 because we aren't really considered either generation, or sort of considered both depending on who you ask, so it gives you this perspective like, oh, this is all totally bullshit and doesn't exist because I don't even belong in either category. I'm too young to remember one thing, too old to remember another thing, blah blah blah. I only have friends who are older than me so I generally relate to and have memories from millennial related things more, but thats aside the point. It all doesnt make sense, its making people feel badly for no reason, and basically is taking away from the fact that instead of gen z and millennial fighting and us in between generation being made to feel like we belong to neither and should feel like shit about when we were fucking born for no literally no reason, we should ALL be coming together and change the world for the better. It's all just distracting us from the power we could truly have if we came together to create this planet into something truly beautiful. But, no, instead I have to watch some sad woman in her early 30's sing about how she got mad about being dissed by a teenager and has no life. Sigh.

Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers" - Kenneth John Freeman (1907) paraphrasing Hellenic attitudes towards children, 600-300 BCE

Can't relate from first hand experience. I remember kids my generation (same as uploader) used to look up to people in their 20s and sometimes even early 30s. Potentially xillennials and core millennials, I'm guessing? Barely knew anyone that genuinely thought our generation was somehow cooler than those generations of people. Many popular things in media were from the 90s in the 2000s so I grew up becoming influenced by it. Many kids used to pose as a 90s kid online and making their age older thinking it was the cool shit to do. The boomers were not seen as cool. But that's probably because they were grumpy middle aged teachers' typical age.

the millennials in these responses really think saying "you're young" is some sort of insult. obviously all of this is done by a small portion of both generations so it is probably less of a big deal than social media makes it seem, but it is definitely a bit frustrating to see generations arguing over the stupidest shit. and it is even more frustrating to see some millennials who were just as young not too long ago, dismissing zoomers because they are young now. like, when I was a kid, I fucking hated it when adults would do that shit to me, but it seems like some people my age have forgotten that feeling or decided that instead of ending the dumb cycle, it is their turn to be weird. anyway, if I ever make a parody to all star by smash mouth where I insult gen z, you all know what to do with me.

I've known since I was a teenager that there are big trends and that they also tend to follow cycles. A few years ago I remember commenting on my (at the time) boyfriends old pics, from him as a teenager in the 90s. He was wearing really baggy clothes and had a middle parting, and I thought it was hilarious and uncool, as the trends for my gen were tighter clothing and side partings, for examples. So when I see kids today with middle partings, wearing clothing three sizes too big, I just see the 90s rolling around again. Once camo was in, or bell-bottoms, or colour blocking, or pastels, etc. It's just the usual 30year cycle.

@@livispuzzled Gen Alpha are toddlers, most are not even born. Gen Z ends in 2015 but Bloomberg news said gen Z ends in 2016. Born after the year 2000 is considered part of iGeneration (aka Generation Z/FORTNITE KIDS). It is so-called due to the technology that existed during the time of their births: iPhone, iPod, iPad, iTunes, Wii, etc, and the way that they are used: individualized. Zoomers! tiktokers, fortnite kids, tide pod babies, jake paulers, logan paul kids and streamer twitch kids are those born between 2001-2009 and beyond. They all grew up on the same stuff. I find it really weird that you can notice extremes between people on either age spectrum of generations. It makes some people look "out of touch" with their age range. This + differences in upbringing makes for some real funny oppositions. I have twenty something friends that act like they are 16, and some that act like they are straight up 40 y old men.
