Inflation is, by definition, the decrease in value of money due to an increase in printing and circulation of new bills. The old people grew up seeing inflation firsthand, which is why Mark asked them questions about what things cost back in the day. I knew about inflation, the proper definition, back in elementary school, when Obama was running for office the first time in 2008. Unfortunately, most of my generation doesn't take the time to learn about basic trade and economics, and instead focuses on bullshitting their way through to a fine arts or gender studies degree.

We have a government that prosecutes people who pray in school or who may bring a bible into one of educational institutions, however, they have driven the quality of our public school system to it's lowest level in history despite spending billions of dollars in the process. Gas is no more expensive now than it was in the fifties. In 1955 28 cents = $2.70 in 2020. There have been times when it was more, but RIGHT now it actually much less. In Mar 2020 in Florida a gal of gas is just $1.89 and most places in the US it is no more than $2.40. So when someone from the OLD DAYS complains, tell them to do their homework.

The problem here is that Mark tends to apply his confirmation biases on different groups of people. He doesn't realize that most people are dumb when they're young and are more likely to be ignorant. One day all these youngsters will grow up, start paying bills, taxes etc and they're pretty much forced into a world where they're forced to fight and that's when they'll realize what the world is really like. Inflation is tax. The Federal Reserve creates it on purpose. Getting of the gold standard was the final nail in the coffin. Maybe decentralized crypto could turn things around. Hopeful, but doubtful

In 2012 we touched this concept in my history class. A girl said if we print more money then more people would have more money. I told the teacher I can answer that question. I said all money has to be backed by something, otherwise it is just a piece of paper. She did not understand that so I took out a pen. I said this pen cost one dollar because the dollar is backed by this pen. If I was to print one more dollar how many pens could you buy with two dollars? She said two. I said one, because now it takes two dollars to buy this pen because the value of the pen didn't change, the value of the dollar did. I understood this concept my sophomore year of high school, how can "college" students not? This isn't advanced economics, this is the basics. I have a GED for god sakes. I guess I "failed" high school because of the morons I was around.

Inflation in a nutshell: $$$ Inflation robs the poor (constant income) of purchasing power, and savers of their life savings. With much more money going after the same stuff, more money is needed to get the stuff. This is inflation, an increase in money supply. Especially when fiat currencies are backed by nothing but the trust in the universally accepted and recognised value of the fiat currency. The same dollar hence buys less, and as long as your salary isnt increasing fast, you lose out and buy less. Proportionally, those that print money get a larger total % of the fiat currency, hence the rich will get an increasingly larger piece of wealth.
