SHADY, I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS GAME!! Be warned, this game is very hard. You can only heal your LPs by returning home and saving, or running LP restoring cards, but I don't recommend them. Farming helps, but optimal play and deck building matters more. The best cards in the game are all of the traps, beckon to darkness, fiend's hand, skelengal, and trap master. You eventually want three of all of these. Also, Dark Flare knight is very important (discard it from your hand and it will special summon a mirage knight for free). Other good cards are the monster splitters like doron, revival jam, and especially ancient lamp, but they can be a bit expensive. I would prioritize them less than the ones I mentioned before. Late game, Ra will be your best friend since it is broken in this game (discard phoenix mode from your hand to special summon Ra). Another important thing is keeping your deck cost down by finding the most useful cards you can that have low cost good examples are The Inexperienced Spy and Infinite Dismissal (both are 0 cost), and like 6-8 cheap one tribute monsters. These cards are good because seeing your opponent's hand makes their cards permanently face up (so you'll know what traps they set), and the a.i. is extremely predictable. For instance, they always tribute summon if they have the option. Therefore, if you use the inexperienced spy and see a tribute monster in their hand you have an elemental advantage against, just set a monster with the element that beats it, and they will tribute and swing into it 100%. My last early game tip is to farm Duke Devlin. He gives the best early game card: Hourglass of Life, as well as the inexperienced spy. I BELIEVE IN YOU SHADY! I can already tell you're dueling much better after learning the ropes for the previous game.

i would add to this monsters that summon other monsters like the aformentioned ancient lamp and toad master are helpful too, and slifer is your best friend through the midgame. also SOME lp cards like soul of the pure and dian keto the cure master are good but dont run anything less like goblin's secret remedy or something.

that one card that turns all your monsters face down, darkness approaches i believe, is also helpful, since it also resets monster abilities. i mostly use it to reuse revival jams ability. getting 4 monsters that have 1900+ attack points when in umi in 2 turns are extremely useful

I absolutely second this, but it's only worth after you already have 3 skelengal and 3 trap master. The ideal start to a duel is summon trap master and spawn a trap hole, opponent swings into it, skelengal for a draw and you hopefully get another trap, they swing into that, you use darkness approaches for another free draw and trap hole and summon your third monster and still have a trap set, so you can summon slifer next turn which is gg. The point is that traps like infinite dismissal, bear trap, invisible wire, acid trap hole, widespread (this one is semi limited in game) only cost 0, 20, 50, 70, 100 respectively, and beckon to darkness is 15 (so your line up of 17 monster removal spells and traps only costs 665 deck capacity). Then skelengel costs 72, trap master is 103, fiend's hand is only 37. Those 9 monsters cost 636 deck capacity. We're up to 26 cards and only 1301 capacity. We can run some 0 cost cards like 3 spy and Slifer/Ra/both. Now we're at 30/31 cards and 1301 capacity. I think the best 1 tribute monster in the game is Kairyu-Shin at 41 cost (it take away the a.i.'s yami field advantage), so 3 of that gives us 1424 cost. Darkness approaches is 10 cost, so now we're at 36/37 cards and 1424 capacity used. For reference, you start the game at 1600 capacity, and you will go insane if you actually grind for more than about 2000 capacity by the end game. What monsters can we actually afford to run in our last 3-4 slots with all the capacity we saved by budgeting so frugally? Honestly, not much. A single 1700 atk level 4 is 233 cost in this game. Revival Jam is 183 cost and Ancient Lamp is 161. Also Dark Flare knight is 150 which is really good for what it offers. So yeah, if you build your deck cost efficiently, you can afford maybe 3 splitting beaters without excessive grinding. That's why I consider the splitters to be such lower priority than the traps and the cheaper +1s of skelengal and trap master. This is pretty much the optimal deck for the endgame in this game. The obvious things we would want if we had the capacity to afford it would be to replace the bad 0 cost cards with pot of greed, amazoness archers, heavy storm, and probably 6 revival jam/ancient lamp instead of just 3 total, but then you're pushing 3000 capacity which is unachievable without hating yourself.

The weird effect that happens after every move is the game checking for continuous effects btw. It's really tedious when there's an actual monster with a continuous effect on board (such as Witch's Apprentice), because it slows down the game a lot.

Shady here are a couple tips on beating the early game which is easily the hardest part of the game. 1. Save at ur PC and u also restore LP 2. Duel Duke at the card shop for 700 atk monsters and Hourglass of Life which has the effect of giving all of your own monsters +500 atk for 1,000 LP (card shop is at grandpa Muto in this game) 3. DO NOT GO TO KAIBA CORP until after the Egypt exhibit plot there is a forced early game boss there that will destroy you. (if you do manage to beat the boss there is a good chance that it drops some really good cards.)

Duke os fairly difficult early on. I would add a step 1.5 and duel tristan and Yugi for some early game cards and money, then start dueling Duke at 1800 DC. Joey also gives good cards. If you can make a Time Wizard x3 / Flame Swordsman x3 / Baby Dragon x3 / 6- 9x traps / 3x beckon to darkness deck early on, you can get past Rebecca, then play the machine to get some good 700atk monsters (get at least 3 for each summon type because summon advantage in this game is key).

there's a Lunar IPS patch for this game called "Reshef Is Actually Tolerable Now" that makes this game bearable. This patch gets rid of the random cursor scan, LP is restored after every battle and you can sell cards for 50% they're actual price rather than only 100 domino. It keeps the difficulty otherwise. If you are interested in playing this game in 2019 I HIGHLY recommend getting this patch.

What do you mean by "random cursor scan." What does that do to the game? What does it affect?

@@samw.8734 It isn't actually random. The cursor is an indicator that the game is scanning in order to check for continuous effects. When the scan happens and there is a card on the board that has a continuous effect it will "re-activate" and even give you an annoying text box every move to let you know its still active. The "Reshef Is Actually Tolerable Now" patch removes the Cursor Scan altogether and continuous effect text boxes only show up once per turn. Over the course of every turn you are saving 2 seconds of your time off the cursor scan alone; and you have the constant game flow that Sacred Cards has rather then the game interrupting you every second.

It's been a long time since I last played this game, but I do remember LP doesn't automatically restart between duels (annoying when you get ganged up on) and saw that you have to go home to save/heal. It is a difficult game (much more so than Sacred Cards), but is that much more satisfying once you beat it. My only advice is to remember to edit/upgrade your deck, learn the type advantages, and to save often. Best of luck, you're in for a challenge! Also, if I remember correctly, you walk directly below the train station employee to board the train.

I’d love to see someone reboot both this and sacred cards so that they’re more balanced gameplay experiences. The 1st game was too easy and didn’t really do justice to the iconic duelists’ cards, and the 2nd game has all the cool cards but was basically the antichrist in the process. Finding a middle ground between the 2 extremes would make both games a bit more fun.

Major prop to you for tackling this game. Even when using the all cards cheat, I still had a tough time beating everything because of how slowly you gain deck capacity and duelist level. You almost have to use the max deck capacity/duelist level cheats to beat all the duelists in the hall of eternity post game. Would love to see someone beat this with 0 cheats. Also love the commentary and voice acting in this :)

I would highly recommend playing Yugioh Nightmare Troubadour. Fantastic game that stays true to the standard Yugioh rule and requires you to slowly build up your deck power to tackle new opponents and areas of the game.

Just played through this game not too long ago and man, the grind is real. All duels should've AT LEAST given 3 times the amount of deck capacity and Domino, and continuous effects are somewhat tedious. But other than that, the story is really entertaining for a YGO game, and the gameplay is refreshing, so I still enjoyed it.

Before you get the first item, make sure you go to kaiba corp and there is a side quest to beat Rebecca Hawkins. She is the hardest duelist you will face, but if you have a deck of light wind and dream monsters you should be able to beat her and get some good rewards early on.

After this game I really do recommend the world championship series starting at 2009 they are really good and play like actual yugioh. But another really fun spinoff that makes for a great strategy game is Capsule Monster Colosseum. Please consider playing one of those two!!

BTW, broken mechanic I should mention: you can discard a card at will, and SPOILER below: You can discard Winged Dragon of Ra: Phoenix Mode to instantly summon the 4000/4000 vanilla Ra, so you don't even need the vanilla version in the deck.

I'm looking forward to the rest of this series! Sacred Cards was a lot of fun! So you don't heal after a duel, but does that mean you don't reset to 8000LP if you start with more? Maybe you can make a healing deck that turns you into a juggernaut? That would be rad, but probably not considering how wimpy Sacred Cards' healing spells were.

I remember getting stuck at the train for ages because I didn't know you can click the r button to challenge basically anyone, once I found that out the game got slightly easier but it was still so difficult, good luck but I just know that this series will get to a point where you're gonna have to grind a tonne or give up.... I gave up after spending weeks grinding my duelist level to fight the last fight (I won't spoil it) 😂😂😂 such a difficult game but I recommend getting cards that have effects that multiply itself or their is this card that you can discard to summon a monster that at the end of the turn splits into the dark magician and the flaming swordsman.... also theirs a lot of secret events in this game idk if you know that already but yeah, check every area after doing some story event :)

Basically If you go to your character’s house you can heal your life points and save your game
