Just picked up a welder at the flea market for $20 bucks today because it constantly feeds. Ordered a new button as this one was broke. If the button isnt the problem I know what to check next. Thank you, much appreciated! Btw, you got yourself a new subscriber!

that is NOT SHIELDING,,,,,, that is the conductor that carries power to the torch and contact tip ,,,,, it becomes HOT when you pull the trigger via the contactor inside the machine, it carries all the current for welding. and yes if part if that conductor is fraid and pulled away from the torch as in your case,,,, you are limited on how much power you can send to the torch,, the shielding gas hose goes right up the middle of that conductor that is fraid,, and yes it means you need a new torch unless you are are very industrious little raskel and decide to fix it your self,,,,, which can be done.

I realize this is an older video. However, I can't understand how once you press the button it constantly feeds. I guess when you press that button, the broken shield wire mess wires somehow contacts the button wires at that end constantly than. Other than that, I can't see how a partially broken shield mesh could cause such a malfunction. When you taped over the shield mesh, you kept it from making contact with the button wires there... The broken shield wires had to be piercing the button wires. No other way it could make it feed constantly. The voltage coming through that entire weld length whip/torch wire is no more than about 30 volts or less. Not high enough to transfer via high voltage...
@KoalityofLife
@KoalityofLife 9 ай бұрын
I do not know the specifics behind it as I'm not an electrician but I know the shielding is there for a reason and when it is compromised undesirable things happen. Wrapping the shielding fixed the problem so I replaced the whole hose/whip. Thanks for watching. :)

I have similar, but not the same, problem.. MIG welder, I release the trigger, it continues to feed until I "pull away" from what I'm welding, but it will stop on its' own. Any thoughts?
@KoalityofLife
@KoalityofLife 2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to diagnose without being there but it might be the same problem. The weld puts off an electro magnetic field, if there's a break in the shielding and it's close enough to the weld it could cause a problem, then when you pull away, the break in the shielding gets far enough away from the weld to stop the interference. But like I said, hard to diagnose without being there. :)

When your wire kept feeding how much would come out? I'm having a similar problem but its only about 3/4 to 1" of wire everytime I make an arc.

I have this issue with my onnipro 220. But ONLY when I run off my generator(12,000 peak using the 50amp outlet - plenty big) it will weld for about a second, then stops and just feeds out like 2 feet of wire. And same with stick; it only welds about a second or 2 at best. Works great off my shop outlet. I’m at a lose.
@KoalityofLife
@KoalityofLife 2 жыл бұрын
If the welder only has problems when it's plugged into the generator then it's not the welder its something with the generator. Hard to diagnose when I'm not there but thats where I would start. :)
@walter2670
@walter2670 2 жыл бұрын
@@KoalityofLife yeah it’s odd. Generator is nearly new. We’ve run the house off of it 2-3 times just to see how it work. Does great. Really annoying, welding is one of the reasons I went so big. I think I wanna try to use the 30amp outlet instead. See if it works. Just need another adapter. * I’ve tried it with and without a surge protector

It's hard to diagnose a problem if I'm not there but start looking around for frayed wires or corroded contacts. Try not to put sharp bends in the leads of your welded when you store it too. :)
@oomrdeatho
@oomrdeatho Ай бұрын
I had the same issue, except my wire is frayed in the gun, an inch below where my trigger wire connects, which was letting all my gas flow out of my gun itself instead of out the nozzel. So I put some permatex sealant around it 🤕 and now my welder won't feed wire at all 😭😭

@KoalityofLife
@KoalityofLife 3 жыл бұрын
@@kw3640 If you can shield wires from the welding wire I'm sure it will work but better to get a new wire housing. Wouldn't want to cause damage to the welder over time if it wasn't perfect. Ya know. :)

Nice detective work. I follow your analytical approach, but one thing I was wondering is if your welder is AC or DC? (I don't have a MIG here, just TIG and stick). AC run through one of two parallel conductors will induce a current in the second one... it's how transformers work (the "coil" is just linear instead of wound). I used to work in communications, and faulty shielding caused many problems that would never show up in simple DC tests. Still, glad you convinced yourself buying that lineset was not a wasteful expenditure, and are able to get back to your tasks. Spring has quite sprung here in Texas... Oaks are budding, fruit trees blooming, native wildflowers blooming, patches of clover nearly knee high.We are considerably further South of you, but it'll get there eventually!

It is warming up here, snow is melting off quite quickly. I'm hoping to be able to start on the greenhouse next week. The ground needs to dry out a little before I start on the house and the greenhouse should go up pretty quick. :)
