Thanks, you put me on the trail for a fan for my Miller T bolt.

I inherited an old Thunderbolt and was mystified when I wired it up, plugged it in, turned it on and heard no fan... when I asked, the previous owner said it died like 20 or 30 years ago but has been working just fine without it since. I do notice a lot of heat coming off the unit if I burn a few rods so I'm going to be doing a very similar fan install; the internals are in a different layout but no matter what I think it's going to be better to have some cooling. Thanks!

I used a range hood fan, 120 volt, wired from one hot leg to neutral.

.............I change the power cord & bootlegged a 110 circuit.............energized through machine's power switch. Can now use whatever fan motor, & also power a grinder from the 110 outlet I mounted outside of welding machine. None of my riding lawn mowers came with a horn.............I had to correct that too.

Good job. Grainger says this fan is to be mounted horizontal and it don't have bearings either, just bushings. Do you think it will hold up using it the way you use it?

I'm sure it will last as long as the Miller one did. If it doesn't, I can buy many more for the price of one miller fan. If you look at a lot of the new computer tower has mounted sideways.

@@detailisretail Thank you for the reply , will give it some thought.

The fan that was in there worked for over 30 years in the dust and never cleaned or lubed and when it died, this guy calls it junk. Then complains when it costs just over $100 to replace. Jeesh.

They are junk. No bearings, they have no longevity. The design is to fail and what is the part that fails in this welder them. When I buy pieces of equipment I want to them work. Is that too much huh. I had more than one of these and it always the fan that fail. Thanks for your opinion, I have mine too.

@@detailisretail I think the point he was making is that it lasted over 30 years. Show me any entry level welder made today that will last that long. I have Miller welders, Lincoln welders, century welders and they are about the same at the entry level.

@@marcianotrevino9076 my opinion, one it everytime I go use a Miller there is some wrong it. My aunt work for them, there is no welding talk at family visit. Especially after I talked to her about my Bobcat 250, how stupid it was to use plain steel for the choke rod. Which rusts in place. What would it cost to have that little rod stainless. The Bobcat is supposed to be outside truck mount machine. It so much better to have a hard to pull it open. So you can start it up. (that Millers design not Kohler) Miller doesn't sell you any parts for the Kohler engine. On their product, their thinking it's not ours. But they put them on their product. I was told to contact Kohler. The main problem with the one in the video. These machines don't run everyday. You use them here and there. And another example of design. At shop I spend time at. Out of the 4 Miller welders there 2 are only working. The Tig welder sounds like the cooling pump going to stop and yes there coolant in it. Ran to another place to use their Miller it was hit switch ten times before it powered up. So with my experience I do have opinion.

Does the fan blow in or suck the air out of the welder?
@detailisretail3 жыл бұрын
It blows air from the bottom-up

Hey, i just bought that same miller welding machine, and doesn’t turn on. I checked if its getting power and it does, but it still doesn’t weld, what can it be?

check iwhere the leads plug in, on the inside are tight.
