Had a 76 CJ-7. Bought it brand new $6000.00 even. Put over 300,000 miles on it. The best thing I did was getting rid of the 3 speed. It would leak almost all of the transmission fluid into the transfer case. They had a recall because of it. Put the T-18 4 speed in it and that was the only trouble I ever had with it.. I was lucky to have Moab like my back yard. I avoided the Easter mob at all costs. I know I'll be going to hell when I die, because every minute driving it I was heaven. Thank you for the post.

@@donniegriggs5878 As far as I know just 76. But the dealer repaired my 3 speed and month later I had to replace that 3 speed. That 3 speed last about 8 months and it did the same. That's when I found the 4 speed . T-18. That is a FANTASTIC trans. Hope that helps

I’m looking to buy a CJ7 with an automatic transmission, any recommendation which year may be preferable pre 1987? Yes, automatic.
@aaronmiller32156 жыл бұрын
If you're looking for an automatic with a part-time transfer case, I would look at the 1980-1986 CJ7. These would have come with the TF-999 3 speed automatic and the Dana 300 transfer case. From 1976-1979 the automatic that was available was the TH400 backed by the Quadra-Trac transfer case. The Quadra-Trac is full time 4wd system unless it has an aftermarket part-time kit added to it. At the time of this writing, we are putting together a 1976 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade Levi's edition with the 304 V-8 and Quadra-Trac :-).

It’s mostly a 77 body. The rot was too great that side panels from a later model were used. The front axle is from a 1979. The owner bent the original front axle jumping the Jeep in the early 80’s and replaced it back then.
