Bought a pair of these back in 2005. They’re still holding up well. It’s nice to see the improvements- thank you!

A follow up question which ballastic nylon did you use? It appears there is 1050 and 1680. Also any particular website you used to buy it? Much appreciated. Thank you
@ALinsdauАй бұрын
Not sure on the weight. Mountaintools.com sent me the material. I've also bought the heaviest nylon at Joann's. Better to touch/feel at a store if you can.

Hey Aaron, Great video! I bought a used (on one Vinson expedition) pair and it's one size too big for me even with my thick wool sock. I am thinking of shoving in a pair synthetic sock at the front and then putting it on. What are your thoughts on this? BAD IDEA or do I get a pass on this? Appreciate your input. Thank you
@ALinsdauАй бұрын
I've used triple/quadruple socks for my boots when it's too cold or I need to bulk them up. I use Wright socks with a regular Smartwool hiker and a heavy Smartwool hiker. With my Millet boots which are loose, I'll even add the Smartwool mountaineer socks as well. It's a bit of an operation but it works. Also, tie the laces at your ankle tighter. That'll push your heel back into the boot. There are heel grips like these: Dr.Foot Heel Grips for Men and Women: amzn.to/3C0afzX Be careful about just jamming a sock in the front - you want to avoid crushing your toes. That'll make them cold, especially on Vinson - it's rather cold there.

If your not climbing mountains and just trekking you should look at the US and Canadian military white 'mickey mouse' vapor barrier boots rated to -65 Fahrenheit. Pretty light compared to these Millets I would guess. Not rigit support enough for climbing at all though. Curious what you'd think of them in ultra cold weather like Antarctica

Pretty informative video. I can't find those Millets in any store so was curious to find more about it. One think if I may, it's a french brand so should be pronounced "mie". I believe that crampon doesn't fit well and is no click due to having such a big size with a bar too short. What size are your Cube? Are your crampons fitted with a wide toe bail? I take a 42.5 and found with both Olympus too narrow even in 44. The Phantom 8000 is so hard to put on and I can't imagine doing it up at higher camps - annoying zip, velcro too short and shell has too narrow opening. I'm hoping to get hold of a Millet and pray it will fit my wide foot. Cheers

Contact Larry at Mountain Tools: mtntools.com He can set you up with the right boots with his measurement system. Millet's are a bit tough to find, as they're pretty specialized. I'm sure I'm messing up the pronunciation. :) My Cubes are 46. I oversized my Millets too much at 47.5. The crampons to bail are the standard Grivel. I didn't do anything to them but I did have to use an extended crampon bar.

Great Video ! very detailed ! thanks a lot for sharing ! Can't make my mind which one I Should get for when I'll be heading above the 6000m between these and the new Lasportiva Olympus Mons Cube.
@ALinsdau4 жыл бұрын
I like my Millets for Denali and the La Sportiva Baruntse for cold climbs like a 6000m. I wouldn't go with the cubes - your feet will freeze. Only mountains without ice like Kilimanjaro would be okay with lighter boots (no double needed there). I just used my leather boots with custom toe warmers and specialized insulated gaiters.

@@ALinsdau Olympus Mons are 8000m triple boots. La Sportiva uses Cube to designate their next generation on both the Olympus Mons and Nepal single boot. My understanding the choice between La Sportiva, Scarpa, and Millet is fitment, based on the last. La Sportivas are traditionally narrower compared to Scarpa.

Other two manufactures you’ve mentioned are La Sportiva and Zamblerlan?

Have you any tips on fitting crampons to massive boots? I’ve gone with the Scarpa Phantom 8000 as I found a brilliant deal, but I take a 49. Seeing your video I worry that there will be some serious issues, with fitting them. I don’t have them in yet but I thought it good to ask now… On my normal boots they are extended on the long bar all the way. Im using grivel crampons at present unless you know of any better models or brands for really large boots… thanks in advance! Love all your videos

I was checking on these and can not figure out if the yellow red color is the updated version or the blue one is the newer one. For example, in millet's site, the shiva model (double boot) only sells in the blue color. Have you got any information on this;

I was just wondering, would these boots be ok for climbing Mt Elbrus? I found a dealer online who currently has 40% discount on the size i think is right for me. I'm heading to Mt Elbrus August 2022, but i see myself climbing higher mountains in the future. Great video!

They're great boots for Elbrus but serious overkill. They're really heavy. But your feet will be warm! "Everyone" wears double boots. Check out my book on keeping your feet warm: How to Keep Your Feet Warm in the Cold: amzn.to/3mvBrZS
