Whether the sexual abuse was true or not, it was a terrible ordeal for Lyle and Eric to be separated for 22 years. The older Menendez brother is relatable in a really strange way for me personally. I would never harm my family, but just the way he deals with emotions and compartmentalizes. Having selective empathy; on one hand being very emotional and introspective but on the other hand blocking everything out that is difficult to the point it borderlines pathological. If my parents died in a car crash or something and me and my brother were going to speak at the funeral I would totally be the one that gets high on coke and a bit drunk and plans out the entire procession, telling my brother to stfu and stop crying when we are about to walk in and then play a weird song that only has meaning to me. I don't think Lyle was oblivious to how everyone else would react or what they thought... he was just so stuck in his own head he was humming the lyrics to this song while everyone in the auditorium was shuffling around uncomfortably looking at each other like wtf?

When watching Monsters, at first I thought this song being played for their mom at the memorial service was so disturbing because it didn't match a mother-son relationship, and now going back to the lyrics I totally understand why is resonated with Lyle... "I knew it from the start you would break my heart, But, still I had to play this painful part" "Giving all the love I feel for you Couldn't make you change your point of view" "It's a tragedy for me to see the dream is over" " Now I'm sittin' here, wastin' my time Ijust don't know what I should do" "Im gonna miss you" This song shows all the complex and painful emotions of having a mother you love because she's your mom but who also allowed the father to abuse her children, and sided with him, and was unstable. I'll never be able to hear this song the same way again.

I knew it from the start you would break my heart but I still had to play this pain full part you wrapped me round your little bitty finger with your magic smile you kept me hanging on a lovers cross awhile, you put your spell on me took my breath away but there was nothing I could do to make you stay. I'm gonna miss you all the love I feel for you nothing could make me change my point of view. I'm gonna miss you baby. Giving all the love I feel for you couldn't make you change your point of view your still leaving now I am sitting here wasting my time. I just don't know what I should do. It's a tragedy for me to see the dream is over and I never will forget the day we met girl I am gonna miss you. Like a honey bee you took the best of me now I can't erase those memories. Like a fairy tale you were so unreal, you left a scar that's so hard to heal
