At The age of just 17years old Millie Small made history by becoming the first Artiste From the Caribbean to gain international recognition with her hit single “my boy Lollipop” which took the world by surprise! She is also the entertainer who shed light on Chris Blackwells Island Records label which paved the way for Bob Marley and jimmy Cliff #reggae #jamaica #dancehall #uk #usa

I am extremely grateful for such an extensive research you done on Millie Small I am writing with tears in my eyes for years I wanted to reach out to her not that knowing her whereabouts,as no one could locate her. but just wanted to thank her for being the pioneer who paved the way for Jamacian music, and as a teenager what she must have endured and suffered on her lonesome journey with no proper maternal or paternal protection. Finally she ended up at the bottom of the ladder in dire destitution on the pauper role after all her music sold millions she got nothing that wicked. Judy Mowatt.

Judy, that story is common among our great talents from Jamaica. The entertainment industry is hugely important to both the workers and the public. What I would like to know is if there is an Association or Organisation in Jamaica. If so how much is known about it. If there isn't one then it would be well worth setting up one soon. No, Judy I am not an engineer but I remember the Millie Small magic in the U,K when I was a young girl. She brought so much sunshine to our lives.

Good history of our music. The only thing I would point out is that Millie was not a reggae artiste since reggae didn’t exist in the early 60s. She was a ska singer with a pop flavor and yes the first Jamaican artiste to have an international hit at that level.

So we have two (recognized) “international female super sheros” that paved the way for many artist (at home & abroad) such as Desmond Deckker & the Aces, Toots & The Maytals (who coined the phrase reggae) Bob Marley and so many more. Thanks a million for Ur educational presentation of this lady Millie Small. I'm 69 yrs old, born in 1955, grew up listening to her and others of that era, I even love her songs and all, but someone had tried to rob her of the fame she was enjoying, as at one point in her time, while I was about the age of a young adult, there was some negative talk being banded about her, to the effect that she was in patriotic and all sorts of nonsense about her, I didn't believe all these stories, as I know that people can be very mean to you once you apprar to be making a little stride from poverty, and they think it should be them in the limelight. So glad that she was awarded some national recognition in her area of endeavor. This is the first video of her performances Ive ever seen, and I will admit she had great stage presence. Thanks again for the presentation❤ Ur opinion of her life experiences, Im so in agreement with.

Would you believe her family is still residing in Milk River, Vere, Clarendon where she was born and bred! Where she developed, making her broke here in UK, where everyone believe "foreign wealthy!" Wealthly used and abused home and abroad! Absolutely agreeded on the outstanding fame she added to Jamaica and to those professing inity in the world of entertainment . No one perfect! Thanksgiving for Millicent Small offering Jamaica a GDP in music and entertainment along with Toots and Maytals, Marleys, Jimmy Cliff Freddie Mcgregor, and others. Royal Albert London will never be the same without RACE Course School, Vere Clarendon pupils such as Millie Small RIPETERNAL! MY DESIRE with Jackie Edward Love you Jasmine Small 💗 ❤️

Millie didn't raise the VIOLENCE issues or HARD LIFE industrial issues of lower Clarendon as Bob MARLEY and Trench Town, so popularity decreased by philosophical religious political stratigitics.

So many artists did not negotiate well for themselves. They were too young and their time on the radio was short lived. Musical Youth went thru this too.

The footage at the beginning and the end of Millie singing, MY BOY LOLLIPOP, the speed of the song sounds slightly fast, it sounds like someone turn the speed from 45 to 78rpm. May her music continue to live on. Millie Small, Jamaica's first International entertainer!

Back in the days the person's who write or sing song always get rob because these producers tell them everything good, but when the money come in play they get little an nothing as we Jamaican would say I heard about you millie but didn't know your story ,R.I.P an thanks for what you did for us🇯🇲❤
