When I was a kid growing up we would use a cane pole with a porcupine quill float and a live minnow or shad to catch crappie. So much fun. The live bait would swim the float around and when the crappie would hit the hook the float would stand straight up.. We would only keep what we were going to eat but it was always a blast because of the amount of fish we caught.

If Josh touched the fish before you did, I believe that excludes it from an IGFA line class record.... If anyone touches your rod, reel, line, or fish, you get no record.....you also have to weigh the fish on a certified scale ON LAND! Weighing the fish on ice, boat, dock, etc excludes the fish from a line class record. You also have to submit the actual terminal tackle that you used to catch your potential record (you must also include a minimum amount of your fishing line (with your terminal tackle attached of course). You also have to include any pictures, witness statements, film, etc in order to qualify for a potential line class record.... All this stuff gets submitted to the IGFA (International Game Fish Association.... It's not easy, but it's worth it. Nice fish, Been...totally kick ass!
