In this video I fired up my homemade bandsaw mill for the first time in over a year.
This mill I was able to build for $350, I have added a power feed and a few other accessories over the years to make it even more efficient.
Here’s a link to DIY Bandsaw playlist: • My DIY videos
Here’s a link to Ants Pants KZbin channel: / theevilchicken1
Thanks to my friend Ryan for providing the music in this video. Shout out to Elkhorn music 👍

That slab at the end is just WOW. Your videos are so inspirational man, all I want to do is escape the city buy some land and start doing projects like you do. Someday, I hope. I get so excited thinking of all the possibilities I see when you start milling down a tree, like there's just something so intoxicating about watching the lumber emerge from the tree full of endless possibilities.

@@Mikefestiva I actually live in Bellevue, Washington State born and raised. So seeing you out in the Olympics is just that much more tempting. Everything over here near the metro area is so dishearteningly expensive that I've started looking further out. Either more your way or deeper into the Cascades. I also have family in Boise, ID and would consider there with the lower cost of living. But it's hard to beat the lushness of western WA,

Wow Thanks for the shout-out Mike! Started geting notifications on my phone left and right about all these new wonderful subscribers, had no idea what was happening hehe. I didn't notice it last time but you have the excact same belt tensioning system then me, air out > change blade > air in, just seamless (Y), Maybe you should consider useing blade guides with sealed-pre lubed bearings, thouse things work amazingly and last very long, but yea like you mentioned you'rs are cheap, mine cost about 40 bucks for 1 guide block + bearing. That motor driven cutting is a really good idea, i get tired overtime pushing the blade through the log very fast. i should try that pine sol out, so far iv been useing soapy washer fluid with water mix. Btw a quick tip about cutting the log, i'm not 100% that it helps but i dont remove the cut boards before i finish the log, that way the weight of the already cut slabs/boards will help to keep the rest of the log from warping. Yay finally i get to see the yanmar in action again! what a great video thanks for posting Mike!

I was happy to give you and your channel a shout out my friend 👍 I think the subscribers you will receive are like minded as we are, similar interests working outside on projects. I will try out your suggestion of leaving the cut boards so they don’t warp 👍 I replaced the guide bearing with rubber sealed ones this time, the old ones were not rubber sealed, they actually came from a skateboard 😂 Ps I really like how that 125 year old cabin is turning out that you are fixing up!

Mike, my grandpa built a working sawmill from some odds and ends. He used a 3-1/2 cylinder (it needed the valves adjusted) Alis Chalmers stationary engine, and a 36" carbide saw blade with a1/4" kerf. It made some big chips. My cousin had band saw mill that he had started to build. His was similar to yours as he used car tires, but he goofed and got a CV axle rather than a straight axle, so when he put pressure on the blade, it would move on the tire. The blade guide wheels actually came off of some scrapped x-ray equipment he got at the local hospital (no nuke, of course). The equipment was made to rotate, and the bearings were well designed for the mill. Mike, I wish you success with your saw mill endeavors.

Will you be using the slab wood for siding the structure? A good use for the waste and for a garage you don't care if it is an air tight fit between them. It is also good for enclosing a wood shed or animal stall as you still want airflow even if you want to block the rain/snow and you can use mesh between to keep animals out.

I do most of my siding around here out of board and batten, I have given a lot of the off cuts to my friend and he sided his entire cabin, it really looks cool 👍 Some of the off cuts get turned into fire wood and some turn into benches, stuff like that 🙂 Thanks for checking out my new video!

A few questions (from someone who is trying to get into milling): 1. Who are you selling the boards to? (I.e. what do they do?) 2. I assume you don't grade the lumber yourself.....is that a issue with who you sell to? 3. I've heard that you should let the logs sit for a while before milling.....should they sit under a shelter or something? Thanks!

What do you think of your 3 point hitch wood chipper? Would be interested in seeing a video on it. Considering a Woodland Mills WC88 myself. Thanks for another great video.

@Mikefestiva 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Michael, I just bought the chipper this summer but I wish I had years ago! Excellent chipper! I owned a 8HP Troy built for the past 14 years, the Troy built works but was really loud, heavy so I wasn’t able to move it around that often, this new chipper works far better, I can chip a pile of branches in half the time. I recommend getting a 3 point chipper, I will have some videos using it soon on my channel.

I noticed that you built a place for an operator to travel along with the saw carriage, but did not seem to use it. Did your weight cause the carriage to cant?

Where do you buy that Pine Saw lube? Haha! Just kidding!!!! Thanks for the info on the feed before. I'm building one, slowly as I have time. Going to do a scissor type setup with acme rods to raise and lower the machine. Double steel on either side. Think it'll work.

around here the Amish use diesel fuel for lube not water ,, I would be worried about a fire .. all the sawdust mixed with the fuel then the diesel engine running the mill hot exhaust .. they say the oil in the fuel lubes the blade .

I was watching you uncoil your new bandsaw blade and saw it spring into shape fortunately missing you. I suggest that you wear a full plastic face mask when uncoiling your saw blades so as to prevent horrific life changing facial injuries.
@Mikefestiva

Haha don’t worry about it, there’s a way to uncoil the blades so the teeth always are facing away from you, I do this all the time.

that thing is so bad ass. what can you use those large planks for and do you sell this lumber or use it for building something?
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 2 жыл бұрын
I have sold a little bit but mostly use it on buildings around my place, I have given some to friends also. I have built some simple benches and other wood projects in the past, I hope to build a wood shop out of some lumber and start getting back into wood working again some day. Thanks for checking out my new mill video 🙂👍

Hey Mike what causes a spool gun to start slow then speed up on a welder.
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 2 жыл бұрын
Well is it doing this when you are welding or just pulling the trigger and seeing how it feeds? I have had many inverter MIG welders that sense if they are actually welding or not, if it’s an inverter welder and you aren’t welding then it’s probably the way the machine is designed.
