Milling the World’s Biggest Maple on Woodmizer LT15 Sawmill Bigleaf Maple

Milling the world’s largest maple on Woodmizer LT15 sawmill. And getting over a case of maple envy. On the east coast they have all kinds of maple trees. Bigleaf maple is the worlds largest maple tree.  We mill one into some marginal lumber but have a good time doing it.

Finally, you cut some hardwood for firewood! Haha. Jacob of Guilty of Treeson has shown some Big Leaf Maple being taken down, those trees can get huge! Thanks for the shout out!

Yep some of them are so big you would have to jump up and down hard on the peavy to get them to move.

I agree with bwillan! 🤣 On the east coast we are envious of your pines and firs. We have what I call big leaf maple because well it has big leaves. It is actually striped maple and is a weed tree not good even for firewood so you are one up on our "big leaf" maple.

Naww, milling B L Maple is never pathetic; frustrating, perhaps. As you said, even the curved boards can be cut to length for projects; Mission rocking chair, furniture, spoons and other kitchen/cooking implements, etc. Thanks for taking the time to talk up our Oregon Big Leaf Maple! We have plenty of maple here for sure and it’s like oak . To many to try to remember which one is which one . At least you know what maple you have just one to remember..😂 at least the boards that are bent upward you have a chance of weighing them down to see if the dry correctly. And them are definitely some large maple leafs . I didn’t see you cutting the last one up for firewood I figured you’d mill it just to take the extra challenge to see what you could get 😂 I like the water test, that was being conservative with the water 😂😂😂

Maybe that was a little skimpy on the water test. Maybe I subconsciously did that because I know we are in a drought.

Definitely a rocking chair tree. Have you done a sawmill maintenance video yet? I am looking at a woodmizer but would like to see the upkeep side. I know how much time I spend on the 461 and the 261 for the time spent cutting. Is it comparable?

I have not done a maintenance video. It’s a good idea, maybe I should. It may be a short one though because there’s not a lot of maintenance on these. More than the 461 but not a lot more and not a very significant percentage of the time operating one.

We ran maple at the sawmill and it makes nice lumber

Mapley you should of turned it 90 degrees before you started cutting and then again maple not ...lol cheers
