theRealAV8r That "sound" is nick named the "radio tone", as the tone of their particular voices carry a deep, powerful, presence through a sensitive (and very expensive) microphone..It's that tone, coupled with a slightly exaggerated enunciation that gives you the "radio or TV tone" we all hear ever day..

░KenLinx░ I think it's because the big movies today are so pompus, and self-important that they feel above putting narration in the trailer. It's just so sad that we can't have big, indulgent fun anymore.

Of all the voice-over artists out there in this business, I have to say that Don LaFontaine was one of the best. And we all miss him a lot!
@JPWesterberg2 жыл бұрын
I was doing TV spots for Universal Studios Hollywood at Margarita Mix in Hollywood around 1994 and guess who was in the session before me... none other than DLF... I knew he was in the building when I arrived... his limo was in the parking lot with the license plate DLF. He left the booth and I walked in past him and said, "Hey. Sounded great!" I finished in about 5 minutes and he was still talking with the producers and when I came out he said, "Hey! You sounded great too!" I introduced myself and we shook hands. That was a cool moment!

I wanna do this...I write trailers for movies that don't exist just so I can practice. I record all my practice trailers on reel to reel tape for that added depth. Don LaFontaine was great, but he was at his peak in the 80s during the era of analog reel to reel recording...Especially when he did a trailer for a low-budget horror movie.

I think so, too. This is all about marketing. They are looking for a pretty narrow voice range to begin with, and only so many potential voice actors will fit in. Those who fit in will get the most of the work and pay. The funny thing about the 'authoritative sounding voice' is that many historical leaders have hardly had the kind of rich voice used in advertisements involved in suggesting authoritative qualities!

Good question. I think that is maybe because of their reliability and professionalism. Them being reliable and consistently good at it, added to the fact they are professionals transmits an image of quality that some amateur voice over artists don't. I think it is a risk related choice. They cost more, but it's safe and reliable work, I suppose. Just my two cents.
