Thing is that part of Florida hasn't been hit by a major category 4 or 5 hurricane in 45 years (according to a news story). The storms have always veered off at the last moment so people take it for granted that nothing will happen. Luck has run out. In St. Pete for example median home values are $750,000. Even those small older homes made of wood (kindling lol!) are very expensive. It's horrible to lose your home but if you live there I think you are doing better financially than those in the depressed areas. BTW another storm is said to be forming.
