with this video, unlike your earlier one, the "brown-ness" of the heather seems to be more universal, due, naturally to it now being the end of August. the earlier video had patches and clumps of brown here and there. so, this area has a healthier heather, then? (asked by a complete numpty when it comes to anything flora!) I had only known about the one heather, the more common lavender colored one, so I got to see something new! 🙂 I liked you panning the camera around so that I could see where Chatsworth and Longshaw estates were in relation to each other, and showing where various towns and villages are. I don't like heights myself, stay off those outcroppings near the edge of high drops! Thank you again for another wonderful, educational video 🙂

After doing some research, it seems like it’s the hot dry summer of 2022 that’s had an effect on the Heather. Even though Heather grows on thin, well drained soils, they do like a cool environment which is why you find it growing on the top of hills and high ground where it’s always a few degrees cooler than the valley bottom. 3 months without rain with temperatures regularly over 30 degrees Celsius, in some places hitting 40 degrees has clearly taken a toll. Yes, I would say the Heather in the previous video is in a worse condition than at this location for a couple of reasons. 1/You have more trees on this moorland providing some shade, whereas in the other video it was just open Heather moorland. 2/Although clearly undulating, the land in this video faces strongly to the east and slightly to the north which means the ground will be slightly cooler and take longer to warm up compared to the first video where the land has a south east slope on it so will heat up quicker. These are tiny margins I know but, over time , it’s that very small localised difference that will dictate how well each individual plant will do. Thanks again for your comment and continued interest.👍🏻
