Millwall fan here from old 4th division days 1959/1960! This was our best performance in a long long while and we had a target man at long last to hold the ball up which we haven't had since Matt Smith left! We just clicked on the day and perhaps 3-0 did not reflect the overall game! Think Weds will be ok good luck for rest of season.

Thanks for this and you know your stuff and you looked as I used to after a defeat 40 or 50 years ago, literally:) I have been attending Millwall since 1962. We are MUCH better than you realize as some top players are back and we have made good signings like debutant Coburn, who got Man Of The Match. We now have our Club record signing, Ivanovic to soon lead the attack and a srong squad that will climb the table. This is a better squad than finished 7th,two seasons ago apart from the loss of Zian Fleming. Good Luck to Wednesday though.A proper football club.

I'm writing this as I'm watching.....Felt Rohl looked liked the penny had dropped in the post match interview. I'd be tempted to revert back to what was working so well for us last season and hope it still does...then build from that. Personally I had hoped to see Pol and Marv feature, felt they've show enough and if you as asking players to fight for their places you have to reward them if they perform. We're not as bad as we are making ourselves look.......

Jim, Someone has already said it but your report's are so cathartic after a game like that and an important part of getting over it. So thanks. Much appreciated. Agree with the general consensus that we were a) way too open b) really needed another battler in midfield c) And should maybe have had three at the back. Honestly thought Danny should have brought in Ingersson or Palmer for one of the wingers. Starting both Musaba and Gassama away from home always leaves us short and having the option of bringing on one or the other is always useful when we are chasing a game (eg Stoke, QPR last season). Two good things from the window. Charles seems a great addition. And we didn't get rid of Pato, Johnson or Smith on the deadline. Chances are we are going to need all three of them.

Spot on review…as always, viewed by Pitsmoor expat in Australia. Very cathartic! Thank you. Hard to watch that last game, very lethargic defense. We need strong Vaulks like characters/leaders to rise up and Marvin starting. Comforting to know that Danny is as upset as all of us and is more capable than previous managers to change things.

Attitude and character are as important as nifty footwork. All teams need em. It's the one thing that's hard to measure mind. This is where old fashioned scouting comes in for me. You can measure owt these days, but I always like to see a player with my own eyes. See how body language at 2-0 down. See his body language when it's p*ssing it down. So important

When you were talking about how the first goal going in feels like there's going to be more, you're right, of course, but my thoughts are that (regardless of how many more we will conceded, which is inevitably going to be more than 1) the game is always over when we concede first. There's near zero chance of us ever coming back when conceding first. This is a major issue. The mentality is so bad that it's literally game over at 1-0 down. There's no spirit for fighting back. They just give up.

Mine you, I'm sure I saw a stat other day that said it's very rare for Champ teams to come back to win full stop. Just shows how vital it is really that we start nicking that first goal. Well, actually, at minute...any goal would be nice!

I was thinking a lot of what you've said. We miss Vaulks. We need an extra body in the middle, so I'd have Pato in front of the two centre half's. I'd have Valentine starting and definitely Johnson starting! We really needed a centre back, Mcguiness! but we're skint, we never have that sort of money! Until we have the best we can hope for is mid table! I hope Röhl changes it. But he's already suggested he has a way of playing he's going to stick to. So I think he'll just change players and stick to plan A!

Hi Jim, The voice of reason is back, totally agree with your assessment and I am just as frustrated with the situation as you sound. The euphoria of last season and the hope for this season has been washed away with 3 poor performances and results. Basically losing 9-0 over 3 league matches and not creating hardly any chances, is pushing us in the wrong direction, down to 20th. Hopefully the international break has come at the right time and Danny can get this squad back out on the training ground and sort out the problems we are creating for ourselves. As you said, we want some character out on the pitch, not just players who have high runnings stats. Quick thought of mind and creativity can out way stats, so lets get creative and sort out this situation. I know it early days and 42 matches to go + cup matches, so let's trust in Danny and get behind the club. Enjoy the 2 week break. Stay Safe & Well Phil

Go to Millwall and you know it’s gonna be a fight. We had Charles as the only player who looked up for that and the rest were completely outfought. It’s easy to say, but it’s 100% true in this case. Every header, every 50/50, every second ball. You earn the right to play and we never did that. We’re trying to play this possession based game now and the players look so uncomfortable with it and then when we end up losing it, we look wide open. We cannot continue with a midfield 2 away from home if we’re playing a back 4 behind them. Last season our success came from a solid base (3 Centre halves), width and supply from two attacking wing backs and getting the ball forward/into the box quickly. I get Danny has these ideas of how to play, and it’s probably the ‘right way’ to play in modern day football… but I’m not sure we have the players currently to do it. Our massive problem right now is how easy we are to play against and how easy we collapse once we encounter any adversity in games. We need to have a real look at how we’re setting up and getting back to basics.. especially away from home. Either a back 3.. or a back 4 with 3 in front, 1 sitting (Charles).

@Rich5890 as a Millwall supporter that line in your 2nd paragraph where you said, “we’re trying to play this possession based game now and the players look so uncomfortable with it…”really stood out for me, because that’s how our fans thought when Joe Edwards came in last season to replace Gary Rowett. We’d gone from playing defensive boring football, trying to nick a 1 goal lead and hold onto it, to playing this more expansive football with our players, many of whom had limited footballing ability and just couldn’t do what was asked of them. Funnily enough, Edwards first game as Millwall manager was an away trip to play Wednesday and we beat you 4-0. The players just clicked on the day and we pretty much tore you lads a new one. Our fans were amazed to see cloggers like Jake Cooper (CB) playing like Paolo Maldini and we thought, even then, that we’d hit the jackpot with Edwards, and with more performances like that, getting a play off place was more than possible. Alas, it wasn’t to be and your result was mainly a flash in the pan. We kept losing, sometimes through poor marking mistakes, other times due to sheer bad luck. The team rallied a bit over the Christmas period getting two consecutive home victories against Queens Park Rangers and Norwich City, but the team faltered again during January and February 2024, culminating in a 2-0 home defeat by the Owls. It was somewhat ironic that Edwards managerial career started with an away victory over the Owls, and it was ended a few months later with a home defeat by the same opposition. Our chairman was faced with a difficult decision. Edwards was taken on because the chairman wanted his team to play better football that would hopefully earn us a promotion to the Premier League. Unfortunately Edwards didn’t have the players who could play the football he wanted, and faced with the growing prospect of relegation to league 1 an almost certainty, Edwards was sacrificed and our saviour, the revered God like former player (and former manager), Neil Harris answered our chairman’s call. Harris came in and got the players playing no nonsense football, with the added ingredients of grit and determination, and we ended the season winning our last 5 games and finishing comfortably mid table. As you can no doubt tell by now, the comparison to how the Owls are faring under Rohl now, compared to how we faired under Edwards then, are strikingly similar. The one advantage your chairman has which our chairman didn’t was time. As much as many Owls fans love Rohl and appreciate what he’s trying to do, at some point, if it’s not working and not changing, your chairman will have to make a decision about your manager’s future. The question is, will the chairman stick or twist? Does he give Rohl time or does he push the panic button and bring in another manager who everyone is happy with, and who gets you the results that you need?

Disappointing result. I was really expecting the team to put in a display after the Leeds game. Last season we seemed to have little bounce backs after a bad result. (after Xisco had gone) I really thought we'd get something at the Den and was looking forward to it. Hugely disappointed.

Watched your video and could see your frustration, how come a great club like Wednesday gave up so easily? However, it was the same with us. Rowett kept us safe but sucked the life out of the club, it was boring, safe, football. So we took on one of these young managers in Edwards. He would have been a good manager but did not understand the crowd, players and history. We don’t have the money for players and this tappy, tappy, play from the back, sort of football - it’s boring. We want passion, have a go football. With Millwall, we demand football with passion. A few good hard tackles, watching players really try, witnessing pride in wearing that shirt, that’s all we expect. If we lose 3-0 4-0 5-0 6-0 it’s not a problem if we gave it our all and tried, we even applaud players off the pitch if they give it their all and lose heavily, that’s the Millwall way. Our manager Harris is a legend. He knows Millwall, he knows what the supporters want, he knows the players to bring in for that. There are no prima donnas here. So does a club like Wednesday need a manager who really understands the club and its history? Someone that rallies the side, someone that is not pretentious? I wish you well, oh and I like Mary Berry’s cakes as well.

We have to stick with Danny, I really do belive he's a manager destined for the very top of the game. What he achieved last season was nothing short of a miracle, we were dead and buried. It was the foot all equivalence of Fury getting up from that Wilder right hander. The bookies had started paying out on us being down. But... to achieve those results he had to mix things up at the back end, bring in a few of the old grafters like Paterson, Vaults etc to complete the recovery. Add a bit of steel. I'm confident in what he's trying to do, but he's doing it on a pound land budget, so may have to go back to tried and tested ways if results don't pick up. Mind you... for all that, it doesn't help whatever you're doing if players are simpley switching off when the opposition have the ball. As for Mary Berry...sadly not baked owt out of that for a while, Doctors given me the Scarborough warning about me sugar intake! 😅

Old school, old Millwall, mix it up a bit, few crunching tackles, no prima donnas, it gets the crowd on your side - it works. So where do you expect Wednesday to be? If you want them up in the ‘Plastic’ Premier then you have to break the bank and possibly suffer many years of financial misery if it don’t work. Managers and chairmans come and go but it’s us supporters that stay for life and pay the wages.
