We had a quick trip to Houston and got some good IFR time in the clouds. On this flight my co-pilot is Tim, a fellow ForeFlight guy.

We all have our own minimums. You fly a lot of IMC and follow procedure you become confident and proficient.

I think I'd press Austin Executive to install the digital ATIS and digital clearance stuff to make development a little easier for the Foreflight team. (Is there digital clearance or did I make that up in my dream?) Great flying. I love these videos.

Yeah, would be really nice - I don't think you get digital ATIS until a ton of other gear also gets installed. No excuse for it, but that seems to be how it is. No real digital clearance stuff yet, though we are trying.

ceiling was quite low at EDC - VV of maybe 200. Agree with you it would have been nice to have it higher!

Recently I learned: "The Garmin Advisory Committee is more formally called the Garmin Customer Advisory Committee. These are conducted with primarily owners’ groups. The last one Garmin held was with the TBM owners’ group and this was prior to the announcement of their Autoland system." Are you part of that owner group? I assume the NXi upgrade means you have most of what you need for Autoland. Would you add it?

Huh, may have to try to join that someday! I do have the NXi but it appears AutoLand requires the G3000, plus extra systems like brake, gear-extension, flap, and throttle controls.

Looks like you are correct, but the TBM 940 has the G3000, autothrottle, and auto-ice protection. My guess is that in 2021 you will see it with autoland. Doesn't seem like you really need it, since you are a two pilot crew, but still good to keep up with the technology.

@@ColinSummers Yeah, they announced it will someday be on the 940, likely as a retrofit (for 940s) as well - TBM is good about offering retrofit options. Agreed on the keeping-up part. I wasn't going to do the NXi but then decided that someday if I want to sell the plane people will expect that to be there, so might as well get to enjoy it myself in the meantime.
