As others, part of my woes as well... Reflexing the knees and maybe rotating/ swinging those knees? Like to see a follow up video on this move. Some have said it is like spinning on a bar stool....some say no. Malaska says push your hips back as you begin your downswing. Looking for a feel. Your thoughts please. Thanks for the vid.

I have gone through thousands of KZbin golf videos after I lost my swing for many years. I found Milo's swing theory make best sense, and if you put the hard work in, you can see the results almost instantly. I couldn't break 100 after lost my swings, two weeks practicing Milo's theories, I broke 90 yesterday.

Hey Milo, what exactly did you do to alter his wrist conditions in the backswing here? Simply more extension of the trail wrist as a kind of pre-setting the face for delivery at P6? or is there more to it than that? Thanks

I love the bit where Milo holds back the shaft during the transition, just as the student starts the lowering/reflexing - that’s the feel so many of us need. If I could suggest one follow up video/lesson - it would be great to hear Milo’s thoughts around the feeling of some torque in the left arm (even the forearm) through impact, and the wrist conditions. To be a little clearer on this (hopefully anyway!): I don’t argue for any sort of manipulation/flip of the hands through impact, but I feel like as the hand path bends “around the corner”, many of us leave the face somewhat open simply due to the clockwise torque that is naturally exerted on the left forearm (say from hip high pre impact into impact as the hand path really starts curving steep down and left). I personally feel like during this phase, it helps to have an awareness that the club face still needs to be squared up a little bit and that the torque on the left arm needs to be met by a continuation of the pivot and the hands working left (“turning the corner”) - this feeling results in me going into flexion in the left wrist and more extension in the right wrist. To put this another way - I guess I’m saying that no one really gets the face *completely* square to the arc during that phase of the swing, and there is still a little flex ion/supination needed, regardless of how good the pivot and transition. I feel like a lot of us (myself included) have at some point fallen into the trap of believing that a pivot driven swing eliminates any necessity to supinate the left arm on the way down, when the reality is that all good ball strikers do so to varying degrees through impact, whether or not they realise it! Thanks so much for the great content - my swing has improved so much over the last 3 or so years!
@divotdigger247
@divotdigger247 2 жыл бұрын
(Sorry if this is turning into an essay!) but to the above I just want to add the following to clarify: Let’s assume that by the time the hands get back to hip high on the downswing the clubface is perfectly square to the arc (thanks to a good grip and a good transition etc etc)- I would then argue in order to *keep* the face square to the arc into and through impact, there needs to be some force to *counter* the torque that is going to be exerted on the left arm into impact (this torque presumably being caused by the change in the curvature of the hand path, and having the effect of wanting to open the face). Hope this makes sense!!!

Hey Milo. Can you explain how you have the sticks set up? The vertical one that he hit in the one video. And the one for the plane. Is it outside ball target line? From face on, how far outside the trail foot? Thanks. 😀
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf 5 жыл бұрын
The sticks are both about 2 1/2 feet from the ball. The vertical stick is on the toe line and the object of this drill is to have the hands inside the stick and the club head outside the stick and below the hands with 0 face rotation when the shaft touches the stick. The swing plane stick is 2-3 inches outside the ball target line on the desired swing plane.

This is one of my problems as well, goes right along with early extension and coming in too steep? Been trying to get that more right bend with butt out at impact but can't seem to do it. I’ve been a stall flipper all my life and I’ve been trying to go to a rotational swing for a few years now. I’ve been experimenting with some good and some bad results. I’m a 1 handicap and made stall flip work but like your student want to improve. I’ve noticed when I try to move to a more rotational swing I stepped backwards and I’ll play in tournaments and miss 80% of fairways with a push fade right. I want to keep this as short as possible but is your main focus to flex knees and “feel” like your flexing lower through swing. I’ve been trying GAnkus’s recommendations and watching his videos but it’s not working. I’m 46 so should I stick with a stall flip or can you make the transition to a more rotational swing as you age or am I trying the impossible?
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf 5 жыл бұрын
Jason Troutman there are a few match ups that have to me made to convert your current swing into a more pivot driven swing. There is always a risk when making swing changes. If you’re working on the correct things results will be immediately seen however work is required for the new pattern to hold up under pressure.

@@ohsballer well my handicap came down from 9 to 5 this year (Dolly Parton). I still stall out due to the lack of practice but my consistency and ball striking has definitely improved. I think it’s always something I’m going to fight unless I get more practice in. My rotation is better but for me the feeling of holding my hands up the top of my swing and firing the lower body helps me transition better.

He may have improved the transition a lot, but he keeps his right knee flexed a lot on the backswing, which tends to restrict hip turn. I think, correct me if I’m wrong, that you, Milo, and many other instructors show the right or trail leg that is slightly flexed at address being straightened in the backswing and then flexing on the downswing as the right knee moves close to the left as the turn is completed.

@@MiloLinesGolf Oh, okay. Many teachers are now saying that from down the line view in transition the hands should initially move in an anti clockwise fashion in transition (away from the ball for a right hander), at least to offset the body rotation so they don't come out over the top. You are saying you down care about that, you just want to see the shaft shallow? I believe most of the great old timers like Hogan and Snead had the hands actually come towards the ball through great body rotation, but they also shallowed the shaft.
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they shallow out by have the trail forearm supinate and trail wrist extend and the hands track to the ball with pivot. This is the counter clockwise wrist motion I would refer to.

Hey Milo..you mention the wrist and I notice he has more forward bend or whatever you call it in his left wrist. How much does that have to do with the improvement compared with lowering his body. The reason I ask is because he seemed to have trouble lowering beforehand but I find that part easy. The thing that feels uncomfortable to me is turning that left wrist down. Is it easier with something I may be missing or is there some other tip you might have to improve this?
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf 2 жыл бұрын
The trail wrist extension and rotation go together. If the left wrist is in a slightly stronger grip which I typically recommend, it does not have to bow as much or turn down, it can return relatively the same as at setup. I would suggest watching this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIXWf4J9o66ZfdU

Can you talk a little about the chicken wing that appears in some of the new swings? That looks very similar to what I myself feel when I try to get the club behind me. The more pronounced swings have a more pronounced chicken wing, and then he sort of handles it in one. How do you deal with that?
@ReSourceEnergetics
@ReSourceEnergetics 3 жыл бұрын
I think what you are referring to as a chicken wing is just the normal breaking down of the lead arm after impact ( to distribute load) in a rotational golf swing. Notice that you can still see the club face on the follow through. That is a characteristic of the “one plane release”. I think the “ chicken wing” is a problem when it is before or immediately at or after impact.
@robsaxepga

So when his legs straighten, there's nothing to turn against so the rotation stalls. Is that the idea? It's a plane and sit-down combo? Less steep, more on plane, sit and go?

he is going over on his left foot. he then has to straighten up to get thru the shot. the left foot should press down as the club moves to the target side of the hands in the backswing. and, the pressure on the ground should increase in the start of the downswing. but, there is very little transitional momentum in his backswing. when the club moves from being on the right side of the hands to left side of the hands, in the backswing, the club has to momentarily pick up momentum as it goes thru the transition. most top players do this, hogan especially. it's all in the grip.

let me ask this question! Do you think for 1 minute that Billy Caspar , Julius Boros, Gary Player or even the great Jack Nicklaus ever thought or practiced laying the shaft OFF in the down swing? I doubt it!! The shallowing of the shaft is a natural re_action in the change of direction! I will guarantee you that Curtis Strange and Paul Azinger, Jasper Parnevik never practiced this motion!! Ask a hockey player who has to get the blade of the stick on the puck, do you think he thinks about laying it off? ask a tennis pro who has to get the racket on the ball does he think about laying it off? IF YOU really want to know and feel the golf swing < swing a rope that is weighted at the end and video yourself (instant success)!

JohnD I have spent quite a few hours with Mr Player, Mr. Casper and Mr. Miller and I know they worked hard on their body pivots and allowing the club to move naturally. You are correct in saying that the shallowing of the shaft is a byproduct of a good pivot in transition. This video doesn’t give much insight into the conversation Alex and I had here. Basically I explained exactly what you said however Alex was actually trying not to let the club lay down because that is what another prominent instructor taught him which was at the root of many of his issues, so I merely gave him permission to let the club lay down because that is what it wants to do.

How many lessons do you teach each month and are all of your students seeing success? Are you a tour level ball striker?
