Amazing simple advice. You're my absolute fav online instructor! Once you get that "feel" for the slot and add your advice about the whip of the club like a towel... your distances sore. I've always been steep, so my irons are long and high. Hit down to hit high can work with irons, but with a driver this is dangerous. My power fade is not bad, but I wanted that upward strike to get more effortless distance with driver and I've found it! Yes you'll duck hook a few times as you adjust, but the effortless power will come with a bit of practice. Thank you for dispelling all the old golf instructor adages and vocab that can be impossible to correlate to feel. I could not have made them "real" without your simplified techniques. I now realize how much swing speed I've negated over the 3 decades I've played and how I've relied on my strength to compensate off the tee with the driver. I look back at friends and competitors that could never hit an iron as far as I could, but would be neck and neck with driver. What?! I hit a 56 wedge 90 yards so effortlessly with your technique in competition...bummer is that the pin was only 70 yards LOL. Joking aside, you have saved my back for more years of play, and increased swing speed. I feel far more relaxed on the course. Thank you!

This video completely helped eliminate hooking the ball! I had no idea how uncoordinated my hips and shoulders were. One thing I did was imagined I was using a tempo trainer and right at the very end of the transition I had a swing thought to “unlock” my hips if that makes sense. I was getting so frustrated so thanks for the great lesson!

Here's something I do... I have a tendency to over swing with my arms at the top. So, right before I reach the top of my backswing, I'll start initiating my legs, and hips, to start my downswing. This works two fold. It shortens my backswing a bit, and also starts my sequence off correctly. So, if you're someone that finds it hard to "pause" at the top, give this a try. Like he said... There's more than one way to make that dynamic move, to start your downswing. But, it's a necessary athletic move, if you want club head speed.

Adam. That was an excellent demonstration of how the hips swivel and move opposite the arms on the downswing. I have been watching and taking lessons for years and I have never seen it explained and more importantly demonstrated as clearly as this. The segment where you put your hands on the bag and rotate your hips so easily and rapidly was the key for me. This I can not do!!!!!!!!. I'm a 63 year old senior and I don't think I could do that even when I was young. LOL. Thanks for the insight. My back hurt just watching you. I guess I will never be a big hitter. Oh well. I will have to settle for 180 Yds drives on a good day. Take care.

I wrote a comment below, in which I ask Adam to give us a method of playing golf that DOESN'T rely on disassociation. The case I make is that only the most accomplished golfers ever really develop the skill to play golf with the proper sequencing. Further, I proposed that body-type, age (and I didn't mention height) and weight all play a roll in making disassociation difficult. Finally, I point out, that if the average 50 or over golfer goes out and hits a large bucket of balls, and REALLY disassociates, he'll (women not so much) be laid up on the barcalounger watching daytime talk shows for a week, as his back recovers. None of these comments were meant to be disrespectful to Adam, or dispute this video's message. The video is 100% on point in defining the very essence of the golf swing: lower body starting the swing (after a nice hip turn back); left hip sliding and turning out to help move the weight to the left side; and left shoulder rising up and staying online as the hips turn under (disassociation). That's it! Just figure out how to set and release your wrist angles and you're there. The problem? Look at the points listen below. They were taking from a "swing faults study" golf.com posted. The study analysed thousands of golfers through an app called Swing Index App. What it shows, is what anyone who has ever gone to a driving range knows: most golfer's fall back a bit (sway or don't shift their weight at all) as they try and "pick the ball up" (because, how else does it make sense that the ball gets up in the air, they ask). So Adam, since we know it's a lost cause to teach old dogs new tricks (for sure, give young and beginning golfers this video), give us something new for the sake of our backs! That's all I was saying; and it was out of respect for your obvious knowledge of the golf swing. Maybe Tiger is the answer. It's clear that Tiger is trying some sort of anti "reverse C" swing. That new driver finish looks wipe-py, because he's trying to exit before the full force of the swing hits his back ( well, it is a wipe swing; left is his miss). I've been trying a Webb Simpson move ( I'm a 65 year old, blade using, tips playing, recovering reverse C'er with 4.7 index); Webb, at normal speed, looks like a 16 handicapper the way he appears to fire his left shoulder out with his hips ( in slow motion he doesn't but he "pops out" fast). Let's find a way! For the betterment of golf. - Most golfers who struggle to break 100 tend to struggle with their weight shift on the backswing, swaying too far back. -Golfers who shoot around 90 also struggle with their weight shift more than anything else, but in a slightly different way. Rather than swaying too far back, they don’t shift their weight at all. - The best golfers struggle with the most advanced problem: The downswing sequence. Golfers ideally should shift toward the target, then rotate their body, then rise through the ball. Getting that order correct is crucial
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the follow up, happy to hear your opinions. My personal experience (and I've given tens of thousands of golf lessons) is that most golfers are either to ball fixated, and/or accelerate club & arms too much at start of downswing. These are the reasons (primarily) that they fail to start with the lower body, and get to their left side. I've yet to meet the person with no club in their hands that couldn't easily shift weight to their target foot. For those who are less flexible and strong, they should try to do exactly the same sequence, it's just for their body they will get much less separation between hips/shoulders/arms than an elite player would get. They will also do it with a lot less speed, but it can still be efficient. Hope this helps. All the best, Adam

I've watched 3 of your videos on hip turn, really helpful, especially helps to prevent too much early overswinging with arms, and allows me to swing more inside to out with hands closer to body; seeing this right? Second question, where is your weight on left foot, inside or outside heal, as this (hip slide) seems to shift it outside, is that okay?

Thanks Kent. Yes, sounds like you are on the right track. Regards left foot, initially weight goes more to the ball of the left shoe, from there pushing up and back towards heel, maybe a little on outside of foot. Best, Adam

Clearing the hips is vital; my swing path is towards 1.30pm, focusing on burying the club handle in the back of the ball, which holds my angle for the late release. The swing goes towards 1.30pm and hips clearing brings the swing around from 1.30pm to 12.00pm down the line. Do you think my thinking is correct?
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 2 жыл бұрын
Hard to comment without seeing your swing. Generally when a player has too much of an in to out path their upper trunk (arms connected to trunk, not hips) isn't rotating enough. Early extension is often the case also Best, Adam

Adam, I am a faithful follower and owner of your dvd set. I have a unique problem. Backswing plane is fine but I have a Colin Montgomery finish. My coach is trying to get me to finish left with a coordinated hip turn. He says my club face is open at contact and when I finish left it is square to my target line. I'm afraid of pulling the ball left. Any ideas?? Dave from Virginia Beach...
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave. I’d look at video (or ask that you look together with your coach) as well as use a launch monitor to determine your swing path through impact, and the overall shape of your follow through Best, Adam

I've been really working on and having much more success in improvement getting my hips through during lag, but I really like the drill you have of pushing the club back before down swing, helps me 'feel' it and improve timing of the snap, but would you ever recommend doing this during golfing?

Hi Adam...Just a little info on me.I use to do the hip bump and tilt but I no longer can swing like that.I have a si joint problem in my back. The tilt just hurts too much. Maybe thats what caused it or made it worse.I'm trying to do it like you by putting the pressure on the front leg than turn through the shot.But when I try this I have no club head speed and I'm losing so much distance on my golf shots.Feels like I'm swinging outside in. I know it's hard without seeing my swing...but if you can help I sure would appreciate it. Thank you...

As you say, hard to say without seeing you swing. I’d put a few on film and see if you are in fact swinging from out to in, feel can be very deceptive All the best, Adam

Jason, Thanks. No, they are real balls. Sound isn't always picked uo, sometimes we put a more clear artificial impact sound in. Best, Adam
