Finally FINNished this. 1) Damnit, I have been pronouncing Matt's last name wrong in my Finn videos. 2) His book is definitely worth buying. Not only does he talk about the rifles, but he includes a copious amount of the macro-history of Finland during this time period as well. 3) I enjoyed this podcast is it seemed a little more no-nonsense than usual.

@2:20:39 This reminds me of a post from 2018 or 2019 of a guy who visited a small shop and found a walnut stocked 1940 42 code K98K for 450? It was missing the cleaning rod but all matching and it was luftwaffe marked as well. He had mentioned he saw a incomplete sniper on the rack as well but it was matching for the same price. He had his wife head to the shop and she grabbed it when he mentioned that in his post and the forum members told him too run back and get it. It was a BCD 44 or 45 thick side wall incompleted sniper (had drill holes but not threaded yet so still more work to be done) and had to have been grabbed from the gustloff werke factory as a war trophy. The forum members mentioned it was not uncommon to see those rifles being completed and made into a full sniper rig by humpers even tho those rifles captured at the factory were never complete sniper rifles to begin with and put a huge ding in the original history behind those rifles.

@1:42:49 reminds me of the MINT #21 commercial K98 that two guys snagged off of GB, had a turn around cost of 800. They backed out on my down payment because "he couldn't find a nicer one to replace it" curse my 500 limit cause i had the cash but my bank was closed. I didn't know what it was aside having been made from depot spare parts such as the BSW depot supplied receiver. Anyway at the time all three of us were clueless what it was until I told'em about the K98K forum and it was found out from the members to be a November of 1943 commercial production K98K made entirely out of depot spares and was kept in wax cloth till the two old guys got it off GB. After a month or two it ended up in a retired lawyer collection who was a college pal of one of those old fellas. I wonder if i'll ever see that rifle again on the market because I still want it bad 🤣 Edit 1 ATM limit was 500

My first gun was a sako 1942 m39. Now i have 2 other ones a Sako m28/30 and a Tikka m91/30... even though the m39 is in better shape and was used in the german championships 2019 and 2022 , the m28/30 shoots better even with the bore looking "frosted" at the front.

The m/28-30 is just a more accurate rifle, which does not necessarily make it better - just that it was designed more for marksmanship than combat.

@@themosinman yes I think they won the World Rifle Championships in 1937 with m28/30 rifles
