I picked up two Chileans many years ago. One was in original condition, so I left it untouched. The other had been butchered by hacksawing off the barrel, so I went whole hog on creating a custom shooter. The sporterized one has had a dozen major alterations and is topped with an ancient Redfield varmint scope. It is also the most accurate rifle I own.

Bit late I know, back when I bought my Chilean 1895, I was really excited because I found one that wasn't German, or Argentinean. Beautiful gun with the dark wood with a super interesting, albeit dark history just in the markings. It has 5 notches cut out in the wood just under the receiver. Now knowing more about the history of these rifles, my love for this rifle has become greater.

AWESOME informative, well-done video! Subbed and subscribed. Keep up the excellent work! One question, what is the "parade hook" on the front "H" band used for, and the extra hole in the front of the trigger guard running through sideways used for? (On the 1912 steyr mauser) Thanks again.

Just picked up a Modelo 1912 this summer with the original sling all matching numbers except for the cleaning rod. It is import marked by SAMCO. Have not taken it to the field just yet, will have it checked out for go/no go and headspace first. Barrel is shiney and bright with pretty good rifling, over all in very good shape. Thanks for all the info.

Can the 1912 be blues also? I have 2 Chilean Mausers in mint condition. Both are long rifles with straight bold handles. The 95 from Loewe. The 12 blued receiver is Modelo 1912 crest with the STEYR ASTRIA on the side. I collect Mausers, and never shot the Chileans. I'm getting old and downsizing . What can I expect for a price?

Did you ever find out? I bought a Chilean Styer 1912 short barrel Chambered in .30.06, as was described. The barrel is 21 inches. I have heard them described both ways as well. I have learned that they bouhgt carbines and had some long rifles cut down. Mine was not cut but was bored out to the .30.06 that it is now from 7mm originally. I am looking for a hand guard for the short rifle if anyone knows of where I can find one.
