Friedman brilliant as always. For all the flack that Donahue caught from his critics he really was good at what he did. Not only was he prepared for his debate and lucid in his inquiries but most importantly he wasn't tone-deaf to logic, unlike most interviewers today.

I was absolutely stunned when I discovered his existence just a few months ago. Went 30 years without so much as bumping into a single person who knew about him or espoused his views(with attributing them to Milton).

It's so nice to hear real wisdom. Anyone that speaks like friedman I'm all ears for. Not because of who he is but the ideology or principles he stands by are similar to mine even before I heard of him. By that I mean as realistic and as objective as one can be.

I envy the fact that Milton could enjoy himself so much. I wish I could do the same. He seems so comfortable and at ease and never gets flustered and seems genuinely happy even though he is speaking in front of a crowd and to a national tv audience hes genuinely enjoying the moment

That is the airline situation today. Deregulation inevitably lead to this, but costs have gone down. And despite passengers complaining about the loss in amenities and baggage fees, the airlines continue to fill airplanes. If people as a whole really cared enough to pay a premium then we wouldn't see such a degradation in airline service.

Thomas Sowell said something along the lines that Liberals desired that which "ought to be" and Conservatives desired to work with "what is". I think Donahue is a decent man but he speaks not of what we see in reality but what he wishes were true as if that makes it feasible somehow. Friedman's views are based so squarely on reality that it is uncomfortable to look at human nature so closely as we see it actually play out.. Still, reality is all we have to work with.

silkhead44 Look at the size of the homeless population now....we live in a police state because we feel a need for military style policing to keep the have nots in line. The US budget for keeping the unemployed incarcerated was $85 billion the last time I checked. Poverty sounds like a good way to punish minorities but it comes at a high price.

I miss both of these two. Back when sensible people were allowed on TV (are there any left?) Even as a socialist I could agree with Milton a lot. When he says that something's wrong when a guy makes $100,000/yr for just owning a taxi/trucking medallion, I would just also replace 'taxi medallion' with 'land deed'.

+Jackson Brim C'mon. That's a weak point. Friedman didn't give amounts nominal or real. He gave percentages. 9% of gdp to 4% of gdp. He didn't say why? It could be because GDP increased and defence expenditure stayed the same.

Donahue is trying so badly to have a “gotcha” moment, but Dr. Friedman is too smart for that and it was driving Donahue mad! 😂 I admire Dr. Friedman’s knowledge in so many fields, not just economics, but even more, I admire his cool calm collectiveness with which he so eloquently debated. R.I.P. Dr. Friedman, you were a national treasure!!!!! 👏🇺🇸

I'm actually embarrassed for Friedman about how ass-backwards every single one of his arguments was. It's an embarrassment the man got tenure with such specious reasoning, not to mention how his policy prescriptions massively failed in the decades to come. Even free market worshippers like Alan Greenspan finally had to admit how Friedman got everything wrong.
