Wow! Dr. Sowell just destroys the panel members. You can see they are not budging from their preconceived ideas even though Dr. Sowell hammers them with fact after fact. The press was just as progressive biased then as they are now.

Listening to Mr. Sowell speak during this program is like watching a heavyweight boxing champion systematically defeat his opponent. Simply masterful.

When governmemt gets involved in anything it'll be twice the cost to produce half as much. More government makes the majority poorer especially those it's designed to help.

I don't always agree with Thomas Sowell but there's no question that had his voice been more prominent through the years the quality of thinking, particularly among Black progressives, would have been much better. He makes you a better thinker. I would add that his books are especially impressive. I love his writing style, no fat, just substance.

Everything he said on this tv show in 1981 has been shown to be true. Government Programs and printing money along with Affirmative Action (DEI) have brought us disasters. Sadly, there has been no new Dr. Thomas Sowell.

Absolutely everything Dr Sowell emphasised in this interview applies today. It’s amazing and maddening that people are arguing about the same concepts 44 years later.

Nathan J. Robinson stated that Sowell "is not given much attention by mainstream scholars in the academy, and few of his books are reviewed by major liberal-leaning publications."[107] He suggested this may be because "[h]is books rarely engage with the major academic literature on the subject he's writing about" and he often "leaves out crucial pieces of data that would make his position look weaker", citing his writing on minimum wage policy and unemployment as an example.[107] Economist James B. Stewart wrote a critical review of Black Rednecks and White Liberals, calling it "the latest salvo in Thomas Sowell's continuing crusade to represent allegedly dysfunctional value orientations and behavioral characteristics of African Americans as the principal reasons for persistent economic and social disparities." He also criticized it for downplaying the impact of slavery.[108] Particularly in black communities in the 1980s Sowell became, in historian Michael Ondaatje's words, "persona non grata, someone known to talk about, rather than with, African Americans".[109] Economist Bernadette Chachere,[110] law professor Richard Thompson Ford,[111] and sociologists William Julius Wilson[112] and Richard Coughlin[113] have criticized some of his work.
