When Thomas Sowell passes on who will be left to carry the torch of freedom and liberty in the economic sphere? He is a voice of reason we take for granted in this increasingly regulated, restricted, and Marxist world.

While I’ve never personally met him, I have absolute respect and admiration for him as a person and what he has contributed to this country/world for all of us. Thank you Dr. Sowell for broadening my understanding of objective thinking and thank you Basic Economics for putting this amazing content together.

MILTON Friedman is also exceptional and had a brilliant mind and his contribution is immeasurable. May he RIP.

Its the natural workings of capitalism that produce and reproduce poverty. Both parties that run the government agree on the basic idea that capitalism provides the solution by its government. The government itself is controlled by the two bicking parties of capital jockeying for more power and privilege. The problem is a system that has entered a period of decline as it makes only the rich richer and the poor poorer. The whole neoliberal capitalist project came to a screeching halt in 2008.

Polarization is the result of a failing system of capitalist production and trade. Bad housing because bosses can't make a profit on providing affordable good quality housing. More money can be made charging exorbitant rents and mortgages while creating a bigger homeless population. The idiocy of the capitalist market means empty hotel rooms while millions are living outdoors.

Do people really want to solve problems? Programs are proposed and implemented, with little to none follow-up to see if progress has been made. Both Friedman and Sowell have compelling arguments, that receive little consideration. History is on the side of both gentlemen, in terms of reality, but still their ideas are ignored. Those in power would rather continue their ongoing failed programs. I can not understand such behavior.
@RevoltingPeasant1233 жыл бұрын
Both Friedman and Sowell have addressed this very issue on multiple occasions. Quite simply, it is that those in power are not failing, at least in the professional sense. They are doing precisely what the incentives in their occupations reward. They are not in those positions to try and help others, they are there to earn a reliable income and keep it.
@BasicEconomics3 жыл бұрын
correct, they do what is politically profitable to get reelected, not what is in the best interest of the public.
@RevoltingPeasant1233 жыл бұрын
@@BasicEconomics I find it’s usually worth pointing out, as this opinion is often criticised as cynical, that it also cannot be any other way. It’s a matter of expediency, nobody is suggesting that everyone in the political arena is out for their career, but the ones who are will naturally rise to the top as they have a competitive advantage over someone who tries to compete with a legitimate desire to help others (if such a thing is even possible to determine through nothing more than individual intellectual resources). Essentially, not all politicians are corrupted - just the ones who get elected.

Some of the most dangerous ideas in existence.
@victorstalick55282 жыл бұрын
It is easy to complain and they have some good complaints. I like much of what they say, but where are the solutions? Allowing complete freedom via a free market system is not the answer because those that HAVE will tend to suppress those that are HAVE NOTS in order to gain more. That is clearly evident in Africa and other places. So we need some positive solutions that allow maximum freedom but somehow help those who are in dire need to rise up and be able to help themselves. They talk about a total free market approach where everyone is responsible for their own success. Sounds good for the average and above average able bodied capable people. But what about orphaned children, disabled people, or the aged? Are they supposed to take care of themselves?
