If you want to live on a sandbar barrier island or dock your boat behind your house with access to the ocean, well, don't be surprised when you get your feet wet. This mentalitiy, that it can't happen here is incredibly out of touch with reality. The storm surge sure gives new meaning to "waterfront property." I feel bad for the people who have been and are about to be flooded again. Maybe they will take the hint and buy/build something more inland and on higher ground and drive to the beach like many other people do.

My home in NFlorida is 15 ft above sea level. That's a hill in Florida. I'm on a sand bluff between the St.Johns and a creek. It's never flooded. But we did get hit by lightening in Ella. It blew up my chimney. There's all kinds of perils in these storms. But we don't have blizzards like Ohio on Lake Erie.

If u are staying in ur home through this here are some tips what will save ur life. BEFORE the storm hits have the following in ur attics: 1..a Ax this will allow u to break through your roof 2.. ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL! LIFE VESTS and strong rope..for everyone including pets ( the brigter the better) the rope is to tie everyone together by the vest straps so in case someone gets swept away u can pull them back to safety and the more vests the easier to spot or if everyone gets swept away u will remain together. 3.. a can of neon colored spray paint this is so you can spray the letters " SOS or HELP on ur roof 4.. flare's this will call attention to your location both from land and air just make sure u put them in water proof bag or container until ready ro use 5...a book bag preferably water proof with food, and water for atleast 2 days including pet food if u have pets. Also include a first aid kit and flashlight. 6...charge ur cell phone as long as u can and place it in a waterproof container or bag and put it in ur book bag until ur ready to use it. Make sure u write out important numbers and put it in the bag with ut phone because u may not have Internet to look up local emergency numbers. Place important paperwork in water proof bags. 7...contact your family and friends with a address and location that you will meet up with them after the storm leaves like a local school, or church. This is especially helpful with family out of state.. 8...write ur name and social number on ur back or chest not ur arm. This is so you are not walking around in the heat with long sleeves trying to protect ur identity from others. Your shirt will cover it..When u survive this event. I truly feel for everyone and my prayers are with you
