A shame nobody near station 2 thought to break in and grab at least one of the trucks to get it out of the way before the tornado hit it. :(

This was the tornado system that cut a 50-mile swath, killing at least ten persons and practically destroying the town of Henryville, Indiana. The national weather service later classified it as an EF-4 with winds between 166 - 200 mph. We were all lucky more were not killed that day.

Jason, I've been following your videos for years (long while you were still 8502), and I still find it shocking that the deadliest tornado of this storm crossed the border right into your jurisdiction, getting your POV video to capture the essence of it's destruction. You did an amazing job spotting and locating the funnel and alerting everyone with good information. Well done sir.
@JASON850211 жыл бұрын
The tornado was an EF-1 or 2. My vehicle did not receive any damage. Station # 2 was lost and the Engine you see was totalled. We lost a lot of things that day.

It is pretty much all the time when it is warm. We don't go by the actual listed tornado seasons anymore since we have seen them happen even in February. Our weather in this area varies a lot.

@ellicsod Around here it is normal. Each member takes a yearly weather spotters class with the weather service to become trained weather spotters. When we have bad weather that is likely to produce tornados then we come out and go to areas in the county to look for tornados or bad weather to warn people that it is coming. You do not have to take the class and do this but most people around here do.

I was actualy flying to Pittsburgh From Arizona the day those tornados hit and when we flew over Chicago when you looked down to the southeast out the window of the plane You could see the Cumulonimbus clouds towering atleast 40,000 feet. We flew directly north of it. Then we we got around Columbus OH you looked back to the South west you could sitll see it till we stared our decent down into Pittsburgh. It was quite a sight from above the clouds.

wat exactly is a tornadoe emergency i now warning means ones been spotted or indicated on radar
@JASON85029 жыл бұрын
+firemanupton Basically the same thing just worded different, means there is or has been a tornado produced from the storm.
@CH3CH2OCH2CH3net9 жыл бұрын
+firemanupton A tornado emergency means has been sighted by a trained spotter, is on the ground and is moving into your immediate area. You have a very, very short time to take action to protect yourself and get into a safe space.
@trentonboston63948 жыл бұрын
+firemanupton WRONG on both. A tornado emergency means imminent loss of life and / or massive destruction is about to occur. Usually only given to tornadoes near large areas, or the ones that are up there in the scale. May 3 99 in OKC was a tornado emergency, along with Greensburg, Joplin, just to name a few

It was an EF-1 last I heard but I'm a retired firefighter and a skywarn storm spotter and Ef-1 tornadoes don't do that damage so i believe the national weather service server team upgraded this tornado to a high end EF-2 I'll look it up later and get back to you on the rating people did die from this tornado I believe the death toll was 10

Florida needs Tornado sirens.We had Tropical Storm Debby and one night I was in my room getting ready to lay down right? and all of a sudden my windows began shaking, well the winds were 60+ so I ignored the window shaking for a bit, suddenly my mom came bursting in the room and screamed IN THE HALLWAY NOW! I stood with a dumb look like WTF I'm busy then I saw the panic in her face and ran.My step dad came out and said we had a tree down; and a fire.My mom said when this happened she saw -c-
