Most of these I've disassembled have had some type of permanent threadlocker on it. Some heat to break the bond may have helped.

This reminds me when I was a fleet maintenance mechanic in an open pit mine. Part of the task are repairing hydraulic leaks on cranes, forklifts and tractors. I think the nut could have been loosen with less time if the rod is fasten more securely on to the vice. 9:22 showing the piston rod twisting back in forth. This action absorb the impact of the gun. Also about the frozen pin removal, we used to drill grease holes to those pins for the operator to grease occasionally for easier removal of the pins and less down time repair of the equipment.

On those rod threads,little trick I picked up was to lather the threads up with copper never seize before trying to bring the nut off.Most times it will stop a gall before it gets started,at least the section under the self locking feature. Pretty impressive what that Milwaukee impact can do. I find all my cordless stuff is great for when I need to grab something up and jump on a job. Save the air for the all day stuff.

I have all the Milwaukee M18 Fuel impact tools from 3/8" to 1" for my trucking operation and they are wonderful. The 3/8" and 1/2" stays in the truck at all times with two 8 Ah batteries and a charger which I plug into inverters when needed. The 3/4" and 1" with 12 Ah batteries stay in the house until needed. I just did all new brake drums and shoes on truck with 1" Milwaukee and two batteries and it works beautifully. A few weeks back I needed a wheel seal replacement on side of road and service truck with air-powered 1" impact had difficulty removing my lug nuts that I put on with my 1" Milwaukee. Expensive, YES but worth it. As for your service trucks, I'm really shocked that you don't use hydraulic tools for removing those huge nuts instead of air-powered or battery powered tools. A lot of the big shop mobile repair units now use hydraulic tools for everything from wheel lug nut removal to heavy duty repairs and the plus side is they have settable torque settings which mean they can not only loosen and tighten lugs nuts for example but also apply final torque at the same time. My tire shop in Indy uses one because everything is in one-step.

Try Permatex right stuff on that oil pan. I’ve used it on oil pans, trans pans, diff covers, intake manifolds. If it’s applied clean and dry it can be put to use right away and I’ve never had a comeback or leak.
@scottleggejr
@scottleggejr 4 жыл бұрын
Might as well weld it on 🙄 Do it right by the service manual and replace compromised components instead of gluing stuff together to be quick/cheap. Knocking out that engine for an oil leak will cost more than the time and parts to do it proper to the engineered spec.
@jeffclark5024
@jeffclark5024 4 жыл бұрын
Scott L the engineered spec of making an oil pan not leak? MANY oil pans are sealed with silicone from the factory. No it’s not like welding it on. They can be removed later if need be. I was simply offering a suggestion for what I KNOW works. I really don’t give a F#%! About what engineers think. I’ve yet to see a single one come out in the field and fix their mistakes.

I've had engineers argue with me about situations that clearly won't work until they get to a screen that shows interface. Engineers are extremely important but discounting good field intel is a fools mistake. It's a team effort of ALL levels of education, that combination solves problems.

your channel was recommended to me by youtube and what a great video it was, Milwaukee is the No.1 tool other right now in the cordless industry, their research and engineering has put them there and that's from the 1/4" - 1" drive like yours there, my friend is a industrial mechanic and he is out on the road and swears by his milwaukee 1" gun with those 12 amp/hr batteries he's got 3 of them and a dual charger , this reminds me of the days when i built big Versatile farm tractors back in the late 70's early 80's doing frames and axle installs, the axle weighed right around 4 tons dry and we had a 1 1/2" impact gun with a 1' airline to install these axles that was on wheels 2 3/4" nuts doubled up and near 3000 lbs torque ,OMG the noise, we wore earplugs and headphones to protect ourselves, don't miss that part of the job , it was a good job all the same and i learned how to almost build and repair a whole tractor, darn near 40 yrs ago, Jay is just a universe of knowledge and experience and has the patience to stand back and say i can do this a better and safer way and get my customer running again. to have the money invested in a Milwaukee setup like that is cheap, so you spend say $ 2/3000.00 thats cheap when you factor in downtime and lost income plus your paying wages on top of that, that Milwaukee set up probably just saved you$10,000 in lost income/production time, i work in heavy steel now and know that for every hour 1 of our production lines or heat treating furnaces are down it is $2500 US an hour in lost income and man that hurts, thx again for the great video looking forward to the next one, cheers and stay safe

Great video! I’m not a heavy equipment guy, but I haven’t used a star wrench to remove lugs in 5 years thanks to Milwaukee. The 1/2” impact makes easy work of all my cars, trailers, etc., even the F 250. I keep it, 2 batteries, sockets and a small floor jack in my truck just incase anybody needs help. And I know what you mean about cords, the most handy M18 tool has been the 3” cutoff / grinder, power to cut through most anything and no cord. Keep up the good work! Enjoy your videos.

I know it sounds bad but if u also turn the socket with ur hand it wouldve went likely, sometimes just taking that little bit of slop out makes all the difference. I learned that years ago doing truck tires and worked ever since. I also did not expect that gun to touch that nut... at my old job ( shop) we had a bench with a hydraulic cylinder with leverage to brake free nuts on rods just for that purpose.

Pretty beast little tool, but the old air machine has a 100% duty cycle unless your compressor runs out of gas or diesel. It costs more up front, but it'll run longer than the plastic and batteries too. It's nice to see the portable units have the power, but nothing beats the old zinc casing on the air tools. If you were taking those nuts off all day long, nothing beats the big setup.

@@scottleggejr I've heard of it and saw a few vids. But I agree. I do like my IR 7150 as a portable option but I still have a 1" Aircat and 1/2" Nitrocat when I'm shop-bound. Electric can do a lot, but it feels like you're killing it when you ask it to do what it's rated for.

T300 bobcat, S590 bobcat, 330E bobcat, ditch witch, both dump trucks are smaller single wheel 16ft, etc etc. You get the point. Nothing like y'alls have. We have the M18 fuel High torques and they have been an absolute godsend! I am itching for an excuse to buy the 1 inch! I am getting one now. We have snapped a few of our larger heavy duty impact sockets with that 1/2 inch. I think mainly because the anvil size. Not completely sure. Anyway, there's only been a dozen of times or so, that we can't break something loose without heat. I think having at least 1" will take care of that completely. So I appreciate the video! 👍🇺🇸

Milwaukee doing its best to serve up a hot supper but you can see the rotation impact being absorbed by the entire rod, even the paper towel at the vice was wiggling along with the strap and piston. Like a long extension sucking up the torque, I've seen the bad boys use a flame cut wrench and reef on it with an excavator bucket. Man if you could have a six inch long clamp on aluminum saddle that'd grip that chrome rod solid right at the end, that Milwaukee might have walked the dog to town and back.
@dposcuro
@dposcuro 5 жыл бұрын
@Gary Miller Translation: Milwaukee was working hard as hell there, but you can see that the torque was being absorbed by the piston rod, and all of the slop in the support. I've seen guys cut a nut with a torch (I think this is what he is meaning? or possibly weld a long rod to the nut..), throw a long wrench on it, and use an excavator to apply torque to the wrench. Man, if you could have a 6 inch aluminum jaw that clamps on to grip the chrome piston rod, solidly, right at the end you are working at? That Milwaukee might have taken that nut off a hell of a lot faster. Apologies for any inaccurate translation, I am still learning the Albertan dialect of the language, and cannot quite recognize fastst1's dialect.

If you want some serious power get a mechanical torque multiplier like the US made X-1. You can stack them for even more force and break nearly anything loose easily by hand with precise control. I have lots of Milwaukee tools but multipliers kick major butt. Once the fastener is loose I run it out with an impact.

Grind out the lock on the nut on inside and throw some loctite on it,(just takes lil heat to break it next time)threads before the lock will be ok. Looks like you boys put out some helpful content, Just wanted to be helpful. I've done more of those cylinder than I can count.... And yes that impact is a Beast! Should have watched just lil longer I see the loctite on the truck bed LOL...

That tool could save you a whole day.. You always have that time when your back in the middle of nowhere and it's getting late and about to rain and you got a deadline and the nut is up under something you can barely get to

I don't know, the money you drop on one tools and a couple batteries you could have a compressor to run several tools without needing to worry about a charge.

Before the haters hate, I own 3 Milwaukee impacts, but this is an issue with cordless, my 1/2" when it's banging hard on a bolt or nut it can't get off, combined with a hot day, that bitch cuts off all the time... I understand it's saving the tool but the whole point of the tool is to do that..... so that's why I won't go above 1/2" cordless and even then I still have air

Should’ve tightened that rod up so it wasn’t absorbing the impacts. I saw the mechanic clearly observe this…

@@thisoljak I’m an automotive technician as well just recently bought 3/8” and 1/2” drive Milwaukee fuel gun combo to replace my little Snap-on 3/8” gun and can say I love them both but there are situations where still need Snap-on MG725 for example anti roll bar drop link nuts Battery gun has a torque but hasn’t that speed and momentum as decent air gun

What is the torque setting on that nut? I couldn't imagine it being so difficult to remove after it broke loose. The locking crimp part must be crazy stout. I am no engineer, but always wonder why they make tolerances so tight. Jay is the man.

Brushless motor boys. Gotta keep hammering it, the gun will see it’s not doing enough and will apply more torque. Also, don’t forget to set it to bolt and or but removal, that’ll make it really want to go, set up through the one key system.
