Video clips re-edited from the 2015 season showing horses and riders having a bad moment. Video by MovingImagesNW and from a variety of events from the year. PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING: Use the old adage - if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all. These brief clips are only moments in time and do not give you, the viewer, the whole story. Some of these events are recognized events, but most of the bloopers here are from schooling shows - so give a little grace to the horse and rider as they are probably learning the sport or moving up a division/level. There could be a variety of reasons why the horse refused the jump or the rider fell off and making a snap judgement about the moment will not be tolerated. MovingImagesNW reserves the right to delete such comments. Please enjoy this montage and smile, because as horse riders, we've all been here and know exactly the frustration and challenge that comes with riding and showing horses. Song featured ("Fight Song" by Rachel Platten) is not owned by MINW.

It's amazing how relatable all these are! I like that all the riders got right back up and brushed it off. It is really easy to get mad in these situations.

It's amazing how many times these spills happen. The cow kick from the dressage horse, that's a good one!

I will always praise riders that fall then get back up just to pat and say well done to their horses even when they are most obviously in pain from falling. Praise to yous❤️

See? People don’t understand just how hard these equestrians work and how hard the horses work as well. So many people think it’s so easy to ride, it’s so safe, oh you fall off the horse? That’s not as dangerous as getting stabbed by a pen, right? Wrong.

Never, never, NEVER get ahead of your horse. Bail out if you have to but do not come at a fence out of rhythm and balance.

Shelby Starr I do, and I understand that catching a runaway horse is hard; however you can really damage your horse's mouth! To each their own

Shelby Starr if you hang onto the reins when you fall the bit slams into the horses gums and causes uneven pressure. the fall alone can cause wounds or even broken teeth depending on where said person has the bit placed. the pain from the pressure freaks them out and they find a release. it is a lot better to let the reins go and let the horse run than to hang on and damage the horses mouth.

Yea but holding on to your rains when you fall may keep your horse from running away which could lead to them getting hurt.

When things start going wrong, instinct takes over - and instinct tells us to hold on tight to whatever we can grab! When a rider is panicking, it doesn't matter what the instructor has told them or how many books they've read or even knowing what they *should* do in a fall situation (that holding onto the reins as you fall will damage the horse's mouth, etc); all of that head knowledge will fly out the window as your body tries to preserve itself. The only thing to do is practice falling off in a safe location. I remember telling my non-horsey friend to "just drop the reins" whenever she came over to ride and she was on a horse that was notorious for tripping and falling to his knees. Every time she came over I'd give her those instructions and every time he tripped, even if it was a small trip, she'd practice dropping the reins because otherwise her instinct would have taken over and she would have yanked up (which is the natural thing to do when you feel yourself fall forward). One day, when she was riding, the horse tripped and completely fell to his knees, but because she had practiced dropping them in safe(er) situations, her "training" took over and she dropped the reins and held on to the horn until the horse recovered. This was a long story, but my point is this - when you are galloping at 25-30 miles per hour over a cross-country course with jumps scattered throughout and you have all of that adrenaline coursing through your body (because it's a thrill!) and you suddenly start to fall from a spooking horse, your body goes into self-preservation mode and you grab anything you can - you simply cannot help that. There is, of course, exceptions to this when a rider has practiced this situation in a controlled environment, but most riders do not.

It is so relatable but at 2:03 it looks like horse abuse kind of. I don't mean to start fights but that is just my opinion

Western curb bits are way too severe for a beginner rider to use and all these rear/falls were because of that reason. New riders tend to pull back when a horse rears instead of throwing their weight forward. Result is plain to see. some horses just fail because of rider weight throwing balance awry.. But those curb bits are wicked things why not use a hackamore? And everyone slams Eventing when simplest western rider causes severe fall/accident while just standing and totally screws up the horse.
