Holy crap! You speak truth! Yes! I'd love for the writers to make Mimi the female leader! And her and Tai hold huge parts to what makes a great leader. Like courage and purity... While Tai is the inspiring voice, Mimi is the one who would keep everyone's emotions in check. She would be able to read more on situations, which the other characters would overlook in all the excitement. While Tai is the leader for the group. MImi has what it takes to keep the whole group stable throughout the adventure (after her own development which she went through that is). Incredible video! I have definitely subscribed! Nice work!

Even as a kid, Mimi was my personal favorite of the original digidestined, so as you can imagine, I hated how in 02, the writes practically wrote her off the main cast by having her move to America. Meaning less appearances for her and Palmon compared to the other OG kids, and in the episodes where both the OG digidestined and new ones fought together in the christmas episode and against the Daemon Corps, Mimi and Palmon were no way in sight. So yeah, I was pretty bitter about that.

Digimon 2020 did her justice, My favorite character in this franchise ever since, so organic, I get it this is an anime but they are kids for f sake, you cant expect everyone to have a hero persona at the bat. We grew with her, we've seen the good and dark side of digimon through her eyes with realistic reactions from her being a 10 year old. Mimi very much exemplifies one of the main reasons Digimon became such a popular series. Namely, the character development. You compare her at the start of Adventure with towards the end, you can see a great deal of growth. She (along with Joe) were the most human and relatable out of the cast. Though it's a bit of a shame the reboot has chosen to skip over a lot of that initial development. Because it's very easy to write the original off as a bit of a pampered brat, overlooking the fact she effectively grew out of that over the course of the show (the Princess episode being the main turning point), which is exactly what development is all about. A character with no flaws to overcome isn't a particually interesting one. One particulor moment that stands out is when she catches that Garbagemon turd and flings it right back at them. An act that stuns the likes of Puppetmon. Saying that, I really wish we had got some kind of rogue Digidestined in the original (with DemiDevimon as a partner). Someone who just shows up now and again to mess with both the heroes and the villains.

Man, this is why I'm so conflicted with the reboot. There are a lot of aspects of the reboot such as the battles and its better integration into the wider Digimon/Digital World lore; however, this video reminds me of how amazing the character development was in the original series. Mimi is very lovable in the reboot, but her journey as a character was so good in the original. I think this holds true for most of the cast as well, not just her.

Good Points about her and Yes she is underrated in the original anime... To all the fans I know there is a debate on what the crest of Mimi is... Is it Sincerity or Purity... In some countries like US or in Europe they named het crest Sincerity but in Japan or some Asian countries it is Purity... My opinion is that in the original anime Mimi potrays a spoiled brat personality to the point that you question her Sincere in other people... And that why I think some countries took it as Sincerity because in the original anime she was slowly realizing her mistakes and also now becoming more sincere to people and Digimon and like you said she is now seeing the good Side of everyone... Purity followed then because she can see the pure goodness of a Digimon even the have a dark past... In the original anime... I love Mimi from the start... I don't know why... I do agree with you because she potrays like the villain in the first early episodes but if you look at it she is just a girly girl that if you put into a situation like this I can understand why she became so bratty... But in the end we saw the goodness in her until season 2 and tri... And now this reboot they really change her personality and it makes me love her even more the latest Episode prove to me that her personality is now reflecting Crest of Purity rather the Sincerity because she see the pureness of people and Digimon and also sense negativity around her... I read a comment on a video that the reason why Togemon evolve to Lilymon is not about Mimi's anger and sorrow... Because Mimi's heart couldn't take the evil that surrounds it and that's why Lilymon appears to purify the situation and for me that is a powerful thing to do... In the moment... We don't know whats instore on her character in this reboot but I am hopeful in some easter eggs that the earlier episodes like the appearance of her Grandfather... She will not be underrated in this series 😀🥰

In terms of the discrepancies between the name of the crest, we have a video with the writer of Digimon in the US (Jeff Nimoy), whereby we discussed certain dub changes. And essentially he said how it simply was because of a combination of how it fits THEIR dub story (is it more funny? more Americanized etc) and how the words fit with the lip flaps. I personally think it should've always been the crest of purity, because beneath all the pink and perceived battiness... the best trait of Mimi is how she sees the pureness in others. Granted she treated people badly at first, but she never distrusted or hated someone for no reason. Mimi is a treasure!

Looking back on the original series, Mimi may have come off as whiny because, unlike everyone else, she grew up without really any baggage. A lot of her episodes also see her interacting with unappealing digimon like Numemon, Gekomon, Sukamon and Chumon to see her see her own faults and appreciate the goodness in such entities. Honestly, I think the reason why people like her is the same as the characters from shows like Konosuba; we see them at their worst so we root for them when they succeed. Plus, with a lack of baggage, everything Mimi experiences is much more raw and emotional which would work for kid who, at the time, may not have experienced much tragedy. Kind of explains why so many digimon sacrifice themselves in front of her and Kari. It's also worth mentioning that, had Digimon been an American franchise written a few years later, she would have been most likely an antagonist because a good amount of kid's cartoons really loved making overly feminine girls into petty antagonists. Whilst writing her off with her moving to America is annoying, it did show how sociable Mimi was and how much she valued her connections to the others, but also how she was able to help Yolei be better... not by much but any development for Yolei that doesn't involve hitting Ken is good. By far Mimi is the best element of Tri. Maybe it's because she's lived in more than one culture, but Mimi has a lot of retrospection in episode 2. Honestly, it's a good message that, being as strongly convicted as her shows her commitment to what she believes in. In the reboot, I haven't seen much but it's nice to see that Mimi's anger at Andromon didn't cause a dark digivolution and that Lilymon is a boss. Honestly, I like that idea that her crest activated more on emotional conviction, including anger.

The reboot has completely changed how I feel about Mimi as a character. In the original Adventure she was whiny, complained and was like that for half the original Adventure series pretty much. She did improve a lot in the Myotismon and dark masters arcs with her feeling bad for the Digimon and just not wanting anyone to get hurt but it took a long while to get there. In the reboot she is one of my favourites in the current group of 6. Even though she has traits of the old Mimi it is handled in such a way that she is a joy to watch. Even when it isn’t a Mimi focused episode some of her expressions and actions like relaxing on the beach in ep 7 or throwing Joes study book into the dark mist can add a lot of humour to an episode. Plus the most recent ep at time of writing (ep 12) was just outstanding showing us a range of emotions. She is currently my 2nd favourite in the group where as of the current group of 6 in the original I would put here near the bottom of the list.

Ah Mimi~~ I really like her when in Digimon Adventure tri. she was sent out nowhere with an amnesiac Tentomon (a tribute to Digimon Adventure's Mimi-Tentomon episode I'm sure) and then confessed to Tentomon that, 'if only they were with Koushiro in time like this, because he was surely dependable'.. She is a pretty good girly girl thats also pretty capable and resourceful, with moments where she complains and is bratty. But thats layers. Also i think how she is extremely well diplomatic and charming people , she is pretty much a force in her own right that just needed a healthy direction. And that her stubbernness is a source of her best qualities and frustrating at times , is good character writing. Seriously she is the character who could talk down near anyone because she is that stubbern.

Haha actually I don’t see any problems with Taichi and Mimi pairing, because as he said, both Taichi and Mimi share similar personalities (loud, strong-willed characters) and leadership traits. In addition, if we pay attention a little closer, there are TONS of Michi moments/interactions in the 2020 series, either in subtle hints or obvious scenes.

Maybe it’s cause I’m gay. But growing up, she was actually my favorite digidestined. She was the funniest and had my favorite digivolutions. I have a weird love and fascination for anthropomorphic/living plants. And The debut of Lillymon was a tent pole moment in my life. I will Never forget that episode. And in adventure 02 the Mimi episodes is what I looked forward too and her awesome pink hair.

If Mimi is more of a female Tai than Sora is, then maybe she should have led the Digidestined when Tai disappeared for a while in Tri instead of Matt. That would have been interesting because, as far as I know at least, there is no girl in any of the Digimon seasons who's the leader of the group.

I agree but Tri dropped the ball with the characters but in a way she was the leader of the female members of the digidestined and she was the one who welcomed Meico into the group so in a way she did take up that role to an extent but she definitely has more potential.

Lool when it comes to the fanfare I feel towards the end of the first season and onwards she’s been getting a lot of love from the fans. Especially in season 2 in that scene with Digi-Tamamon I talked about in the video scenes like that really sky rocketed her characters popularity in comparison to sora who I feel has been stagnant as a character since then.

Everyone had an episode where they had to overcome their flaws. Tai almost got the entire team killed by Skull Greymon. Matt is a total bitch sometimes. He is constantly turning against his friends and lashing out. Sora accused her mother of not loving her. ( that is the worst thing you can say to a mother). Tk is whiny brat who believes everything the villains tell him. Izzy has his nose in a laptop and doesn’t take the time to be diplomatic. Kairy is to headstrong and foolishly takes off on her own making others worry. Everyone has flaws in this show, even more than I mentioned. They all act like a bunch of...kids. Yup that’s it. Despite being chosen heroes they are still kids. And to see their growth throughout the series. Growth while still maintaining their personalities. To see that growth was incredible. This series really has a lot of valuable lessons.

I love that she is the fashionable girl but loves to cook, even if her tastes in the kitchen are strange. Her honesty and her good humor, even being able to stand up to the girls who were talking behind her back. Mimi is so versatile that you can laugh and cry with her. Personally, Sora and Kari seemed boring to me. Especially the first one, her conflict with her mother did not reach me. And I liked Kari better as a background character. In fact the comparison you made between Sora and Matt makes me like them less as a canon ship.

I LOOOOOVE MIMI TO DEATH LOL. It always confused me how my favourites were Taichi and Mimi and no one ever seemed to see what I saw in the two of them?! Suffice to say I grew very confused by my own preferences. Idk. always identified more with Mimi than with Sora and if you grew up in the 90s/2000s you'd know how the girly girl who likes pink is usually written off as the mean/superficial girl, whereas the cool tomboy was always the preferred. It was very obvious, but nowadays we can see how the writers of the time were still (and any writer will always be, tbh) constrainerd by the demands and preferences of their time. While Mimi's more superficial moments made me laugh and relate to her, a big part of her character is also how sweet and honest she is... and Palmon too! I feel like people usually forget about that. Mimi seems so understanding and carefree and genuinely just a fantastic character. She's relatable, and she's not just a stupid princess girl, EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS PORTRAYED LIKE THAT LOL. Taichi is my always favourite... But they share the podium, honestly. and as I grow up, characters that never did much for me, like Sora or Izzy, I'm learning to appreciate them more now (Izzy specifically makes my heart soar!!!!). Joe was always misunderstood and honestly quite boring character to me as a kid (and I believe to a lot of the kid audience at the time too...) ... but boy you bet I'd love to have him on my team now!

I admit, when I first watched Digimon, I was NOT a fan of Mimi at all. I found her extremely annoying and unlikable. Even in 02, she was still my least favorite character despite her growth. However, rewatching the original series again as an adult, I was genuinely surprised by how much I grew to like her. I'm actually rewatching the series with my best friend who is watching Digimon for the first time, and she LOVES Mimi and has even claimed herself to be the Mimi of a group of DigiDestined if she ever became a DigiDestined. In hindsight, my best friend really is a real life Mimi. They have some many things in common and it surprises me that I never made the connection before she said anything. Funny who I used to hate Mimi so much only to realize my best friend of 20 years is literally Mimi in real life. While Mimi is still far from being my favorite, I have a much greater appreciation for her now than I did as a kid. I defiantly support Mimi and her growth over the series and love how she went from a spoiled brat to one of the most sympathetic characters who will even give her enemies a second chance and help them when in need.
