Being a lone person, sometimes there is something very soothing in rewatching your vídeos. It may be something about your friendly, approachable personalities and the not too loud of a tone. It certainly has something to do with how honestly nice you both seem to be. So, thank you for these small pleasures.

I never realized this was a Del Toro film. The man sure knows how to create original and amazing monsters. If they ever make an Alien film where a facehugger gets dropped into a zoo and you need to produce, say, and elephant-xenomorph hybrid, this is who you need call. I'm still so very disappointed that his 'At the Mountains of Madness' film adaptation has not yet happened.

So am I - still waiting for del Toro's Mountains of Madness. I think Prometheus discouraged him from directing it, but I think I'd rather have seen del Toro's version

Just a thought, but maybe the guy who had the pole through him inside the nest, was the minic doing the same thing that she did to the bug when she pinned it to the board. Maybe it wanted to watch him suffer, the way the bug was suffering when it was pinned to the board. That may not be it, but it's the first thing that came to mind when I saw that scene.

I found this video, because I legitimately just remembered this movie that I had only ever heard about and seen from browsing the local blockbuster as a kid, and catching a bit of one of the sequels on TV. And I am really surprised that no other big reviewers have talked about this movie. I will definitely say, that you guys definitely are a cut above. I was expecting really crappy quality review but you guys definitely have something going on. Glad you're still keeping it up!

I love Mimic warts and all. The likable characters and creepy atmosphere make it a film on the high rewatch value. I wasn’t a big fan of the second film and I enjoyed the third film quite a bit. It’s a shame Del Toro didn’t make the film as he wanted but I still see enough of his vision to call it great.

Funny the dark alternate ending ended in the direct to DVD sequels, were the species goes out of control, what they destroyed in the first movie was only one of the colonies, not all, but because they were very low budget, they actually expand of the extension of the treat.

I always confuse Mimic and Relic. You should do a review of the Relic.
@TheKeyser94
@TheKeyser94 4 жыл бұрын
The Mimic and The Relic are two different movies, based on two different sources materials, one a short story and the other is a book, The Relic is more about the ignorance of western culture about natives superstitions and legends, meanwhile Mimic is about playing god, releasing a new species to the world without caring about the consequences (something that already happen around the world countless times), hell, the archaeologist believed that the Kothoga was just a myth a legend, he should have asked for the samples of the plants that he was giving him to drink before drinking it.
@theretrosavage

The mimic decent film
@TheKeyser94
@TheKeyser94 3 жыл бұрын
@@theretrosavage The Relic is also, if you ignore the fact that actually are two books, not one, they mesh the two into one movie, and Stan Winston did a way more intimating creature than it was describe in the book, the Kothoga in the movie really inspire fear, in the book, is a book is more like a lizard gorilla, the two books have the same title, The Relic, but the first one have the subtitle The Lost Idol, and the movie also preserves the message of the first book, western society ignorance over natives myths, the archaeology that goes to the Amazon jungle to find this mysterious tribe dismiss their legends, even that he participate in a ritual that would make him a monster, and dismiss the plants with the fungus infected with the retrovirus that would make him a monster. And for the Mimic is a very good movie, back when I first seen it and now, but I would prefer that Guillermo del Toro had more freedom and see the darker ending that he wanted, and the low budget sequels couldn't get it right.

36:12 I dont buy the timeline but if they didnt have lungs and they were smaller for the most part as like children with pretty looking shells, beetles like Deltoro wanted and then towards the nests you have like big giant versians of them, that would have been not only believable but scarry as fucking shit. Immagine all these like headlines of how the streets are unusually clean of rats and some of the abbandoned parts of the sewers are a hiding spot. A ten year timeline with reserchers being awear that some of them have servived and the thing that atracts peoples attention is part of a building colapsing on a nest so the city government is pissed and they blame the reserchers. No lungs bullshit but some of them getting highly inteligent for bugs and cultivating pits of larva and cocoroaches by stealing suggar and fruits from usually nasty places combined with shit, then releasing beetles to eat that pit up and utilising a special smell to atract those beetles to them as well as going back in to the beetles pit and spraying all over it. The big creature opens its wings and releases gass the beetles stick to it then it batmans them shut and puts the beetles to sleep. Later from the beetle shells the bugs are hammering and rubbing little pieces and then sticking them together in to masks which resemble childrens faces. The how story is people reserching thses things get kidnapped serching for a child, after being dragged away and a trail of bodies leads away they find themselves in the real main nest. The bugs are keeping them locked up with doors out of scrap so they leave to do what ever it is that they do but the humans escape and whisper as they find their way around. Theres a child stuck to a wall having been eaten up he can not speak and people think hes dead, when a cop tries to pull him free however the kid bleads out releasing a small swarm of those things. Resercher says, we must go that would have alerted them. They get out but theres a set of big guardian bugs who great them hopping down from the walls. Its an abandoned building, some of the group servive and make contact with the police but by the time the cops get there the bugs come out in force so only two or three people servive. They arrive in real time only to whitness news reports of giant bugs hunting people around the city. One in times square grabbing a random person. The days a long and slow as they wait for more information as bugs keep hunting and resources keep getting spent to hunt the sewers but a report comes in about bugs inside abandoned buildings just having a nest out in the open but on the 4th floor whoere noone gave a damb what that weird thing was from a distance. There really is a lot of potential here

I know I've got good taste when even a box office failure that I love against all those stuck up unloving movie critics turns out to be by a future great director ... I have no doubt Mimic is primed for cult status just like 1982's The Thing, all the hallmarks of a great underrated classic is there : box office failure, unloved by critics BUT loved by audiences who watched it, great atmospheric cinematography, great creature effects, really good actors, lots of great scenes (kids getting killed by bugs, mystery man turns out to be giant roach, underground abandoned bus as a refuge etc) .... Also, the criticisms it received all sounds very vague, like critics are just following the first influential critics to denounce it without really knowing why, its just a brainless trendy thing to do for these hypocritical bunch of people .... Of course Mimic will be appreciated for what it is, a true masterpiece of the horror genre....

With Gary on this one; was really digging this movie for the most part, right up until the phoney American-ised ending that just felt forced. Not one of Del toro's best, but his visual stamp and style is all over this that takes it a notch above most B-movie monster movies.
