MIN.FARRAKHAN: THE DUMBING DOWN OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

The concept "dumbing down" can point to a variety of different things but the concept always involves a claim about the simplification of culture, education, and thought, a decline in creativity and innovation, a degradation of artistic, cultural, and intellectual standards, or the undermining of the very idea of a standard, and the trivialisation of cultural, artistic, and academic creations.
The term can be seen as subjective since what is labeled as "dumbed down" often depends upon the values of individuals of specific groups. Pierre Bourdieu discusses how the practices of dominant groups in society are legitimised to the disadvantage of subordinate groups. However, there is also evidence that knowledge of areas outside that defined by popular culture has diminished progressively in the late twentieth century

Because of NAFTA oligarchs like Romney were able to close doors to employment and ship warehouses overseas overnight leaving American workers jobless, pentionless and hopeless. Since NAFTA, American workers have had to work two and three jobs at low wages to keep up with the rising cost of living created by those greedy corporations who flood Congress with payments to ensure laws are passed that protect their interests. It was payments to the government that gave us the housing bundle bubble that burst and people lost their homes. And the rising college debt, and preditory lending. And high insurance costs and high gas prices. Everything we need for subsistence has been bought and paid for by corporate America. We're just reimbursing them with interest when the bills comes. Why keep voting incumbents train the newly elected Congress members. Vote them out!

Unfortunately many educators --from the classroom teacher to the top administrators are not interested in the student(s) --- but follow and are guided by the political whims and agendas that fit political ambitions. The 1940-1950-1960's had educators in leadership positions who were up to the task of giving their best effort to the mission at hand: EDUCATE the youth of America with quality teachers, challenging curriculums, and positive examples. Many of the education leaders came out of WW II with a broader view of the world and what challenges there would be in the future for America's youth and they set high goals and excellent examples for their students to follow/emulate/think about. Then came the 1970's on the heels of the roller coaster late 1960's liberation movement and all went down the roller coaster of education as the curriculum got watered downed or abandoned. In many instances looney tunes entered with bizarre changes to the curriculum from ungraded school work, no test, students worked at own speed using study/work packages, no lectures with minimalization of teacher -student communication interface, social promotions, informal relations between teacher and student with first names being used addressing teachers, informal dress with teachers even wearing very short mini skirts (my experience in meeting with son's 6th grade teacher as she sat on floor, Fairfax, VA !!) etc. Rather than dedicated professionals (and their UNIONS) challenging/demanding higher standards, most educators today teach because they cant do anything else and the hours, holidays and free weekends are attractive as are some state's salaries, benefits and pensions.

I am not sure if deviousness is a taught thing now, but I am seeing a lot of devious behaviours, for some time now. Even people you know succumb to to this manipulation by listening to people who they think have their best interests. The whole situation is pitiful.....I can only deal with people that I can see, not all these faceless people who want to manipulate screens on computers in mistaken identity incompetence. Someone else commits a crime, we end up getting stalked endlessly all over town and no privacy on our own computers....This has got to be a bad joke, except it's not funny. Yes, these people are dumbed down. I think it's hard not to be, especially if you aren't skilled in the art of manipulation techniques.....You've got to have it at the back of your mind that the person you are dealing with is hiding for a reason, only people with bad intentions hide and make threats or communications behind the scenes that you cannot respond to.....It's a form of harassment actually. The dumbing down, in your food, your drink, in airborne particles that you breath unconsciously. Most people love it to feel like they are in some 007 secret thing, running around sending covert messages that really if you just spoke problems would be solved quickly......This is not a competition to see who is smarter than who when the world is falling to crumbs.....How old are we?......I left nursery school many years ago, thank you very much.....I do very well by talking to people about what I am not happy about, not sneaking around communicating secretly to people I can't even see and do not even know.
