Rental people don’t maintain. The owners do

When I grew up,renters maintained their own place……that was considered to be your home.

@@lynnmcgee1692 nope. You take care of your stuff inside and all repairs, painting and exterior work is the responsibility of owner. It’s a business..taxable income rent…upkeep of the physical house is theirs to maintain. Part of doing business as a landlord.

As they should, after all they are the owners and it's their property to maintain. As a previous renter, my job wasn't to do maintenance my job was to take care of the property while I was there by not damaging it, But wear and tear is a real thing.

@@lynnmcgee1692Never heard of that. The landlord/owners are responsible for that. Someone might ask permission to paint inside, but all other repairs and upkeep are done by the owners-at least if they want to maintain the value of the house. As a renter, you’d be crazy to put money into a property you don’t own. That defeats the purpose of renting. Not sure what country you are from, but in the U.S., the owner keeps up the property.

Why is it the previous tenants responsibility to do up keep like painting, serious repairs and gutter replacements etc? The owners opening words about the older couple who had rented before, "not being able to maintain things, {which the camera then panned over), raised my eyebrows. Surely that is the job of the landlords? That aside though, Mina and her team did a wonderful job!

As a former landlord who gave my renters a HUGE discount if they did simple maintenance, I can relate to this. THEY DID NOTHING, like most tenants, but destroy the property. Left it a mess. Why couldn't they, at the very least take their garbage out, sweep the floors, clean the windows., wipe up their spills?> Is that the landlords job?

@@gars1074 Am glad you looked after good tenants but not many landlords nowadays do that. The camera panned things like gutters and fascia boards needing painting and replacing. Mina said it had been empty for a while, so being unkempt outside could just be from being empty. As to the rubbish bins I do not know but the inside and outside were hardly destroyed, just old and run down,.

Wood-toned LVP would've brought in so much warmth. I will forever be a hater of the grey washed LVP. The new layout of the house is great though.

Maintenance is not a renters responsibility. That’s the landlords responsibility and renters are usually paying triple with the landlord paid for the property. I know that’s been the case with me I don’t qualify for a homeowners policy even though I paid triple the cost to rent a place it’s not fair to us that can’t get a mortgage because we don’t have a job because our main income is so security they won’t give us a homeownersmortgage so I paid triple the amount every month to live in a rental property that is called crawling with mice and nothing is ever done to maintain the place so put that in your coffee and drink it

@omradiant Are this couple friends of Mina? I gathered that. So this is possibly a renovation where they were just looking to cover their costs, and make a small profit. I'm guessing the labor costs would have been greatly reduced with all the work they did themselves. They may have been able to pull in some favors from their material suppliers in terms of pricing or clearance stock.

That would be my guess, too, which makes it "misleading" to indicate they did all that for $50k. Still, impressive results!

I think it looks better without the lime wash, but it is interesting to learn about this process and that is cheap and you can do it on your own for free. Thanks for sharing these tips.

Ruined the house by lime washing it and painting it boring white with black trim. Too much over-done gray!

The lime washing doesn’t bother me. A grey kitchen is a dealbreaker. And I would have to rip up all that new flooring. Yuck. What is the obsession with grey?

It doesn't really feel cohesive, a mix of modern placed on top of something old a bit casually, like the white subway tiles with black accents in the bathroom or the greysh floor. The country style is lost for some no style ☹️

That white washing scene was insulting. Do they think we’re too dumb to notice the stone and the brushes were dry? They weren’t even decent actors. And I’m not against open concept, I just wish we wouldn’t ignore that we used to call it efficiency.

The back room/seasonal enclosed porch is the selling point. Awesome room, love it. That is where the Iiving room or family room would be for me. Open concept w living room and kitchen drives me batty, hate it. No separation there is hard to deal with, always the lights and sounds overtake the living/family room. Subway tile sucks in my opinion. The back vertical siding is a no for me too. And too much grey. Grey has its places but combined w a lot of white and the black accents with it it is so ugly to me. I’m sure the house sells in no time and there would be many interested in it. Key with whites and greys is keeping it neutral for selling and that’s what they’ve done. Sometimes you see someone else’s tastes or style and it’s hard for some to see past that.
