This review is so eloquent, insightful, and moving! I am sure you yourself must be such a great storyteller! Also, I am with you on the current horrific incidents. I am not an Asian-American, but we should all stand up in solidarity against racism and violence. Thank you for who you are and what you do.

I love Minari, but speciallyI love the Farewell from Lulu Wang ´, both were an eye-opener to me. I'm a Spanish guy living in Berlin, so my experience is far from the Asian American experience, but the Farewell made me cry in a way, that no other movie did, and I watch a lot of movies. I am so happy that Minari got the Nomination to the best Film and not the best foreign film. And I am so happy, that After Crazy rich Asian, so many new movies follow, and you can see there is a change in Cinema, there is more place from Asian character and roles even for Superheros. And I hope it keeps growing. Wish you the best with your Chanel

I really felt the experience of the family in Minari. My family also were farmers as I was growing up and the film felt familiar for any Asian not just Korean. I am now 63 years old and cannot really remember much discrimination that I personally experienced. Maybe I blocked it out while I was growing up because I’m sure I did get teased and discriminated against. Growing up in San Diego was probably easier than other parts of the country. I live in an upper scale community with a lot of upper class Asians now. I appreciate everything you said and it saddens me that Asian Americans are being targeted. Especially the elderly who are the most vulnerable and have probably experienced much more discrimination than my generation. The thought of my 93 year old father being attacked verbally or physically just scares and sickens me. Keep up the good work. I read all the attached articles you added. Best of luck to you and I’m proud of you and my 25 year old daughter for being part of a great generation.

Hi Steven. Thank you for this video. Very much appreciated what you said toward the end of the video. In 2001, we had to move from our previous home and town because of Anti-Asian hate and harassment. The new town still have hate but less. I am afraid to go places by myself. My husband is always with me if I am out and about. Things are made worse for us Asian when the words "Chinese Virus" or "Kung Flue" were used. I also have a small KZbin channel. Some day I hope to do a video about my own experience. I can't put the video together right now because I don't know if I can stop crying through out the video. Just subscribed to your channel. Best wishes

youtube recommended this to me and i'm so glad, such a fantastic essay! watching minari i felt, for the first time, i was watching something so authentic to my own family's immigrant journey. i hope movie studios continue to make similar stories. Tigertail on netflix is also one of my favourites :)

I finally got around to watching Minari. As an Asian American myself, I could relate to a lot of the scenes from the film and your analysis was spot on with how I thought and felt.

Hiya Steven, I took a look at your Soul video as well as this one, and wanted to share my thoughts. Put simply, these essay's are great. There's very little wrong with them, and I love the structure and thought put into your VO. My only criticisms would be at 2.42 there's a black screen for a couple of frames, and your VO goes up in volume, so I can tell you might have started another audio recording here. Additionally the background music you've included in this video adds a lot to keeping the audience engaged. as apposed to you just talking in your Soul video. Looking forward to seeing more from you, keep it up 👍
