That was nice! I knew you would do it! An engine just isn't an engine until it is put to work somehow. I'll bet that little generator would power up a miniature Christmas tree with LED lamps. That poor little walking beam engine sounds like it has a blow by problem. Fun to watch, though. Thanks for sharing!

The grasshopper beam steam engine is designed for low RPM and high torque, so gears or a pulley could speed up the output RPM. Switch the lamp to allow the engine to gain RPM before turning it on. And the burner seems to be weak.

Your steam engine could still work, you just need a fuel that burns hotter. Jellied or crystalized alcohol are often used in such toys in the US.

I think I should have waited for the pressure in the steam engine to rise, i.e. for the safety valve to open.
