I've been watching my lovely friend Gail Burstyn and this amazing open cup pour she did with Turquoise and Gold.. Gorgeous!! Today we are doing an Open Cup pour.

I'm using Jenkins Green as my basecoat for this pour. I love the way the Gold and Copper Metallics look against that dark green.. especially with the Turquoise!
HoA suggested doing some comb work on this one, I love the first combed area, I'm not so crazy about the 2nd one.
I tilt to cover the corners and adjust the composition.. then I'm done.
I'm very happy with how this pour turned out! There are lots of beautiful cells in this piece, and good movement. I LOVE how dark the Jenkins Green dried, so deep and luscious!!

I love this music!!! Open cups are such a blast!! So exciting to watch the colors underneath! This is a great color combination. Let's hear it for copper bling!!! Hi Betty.. the technique of the paint pouring from up high and pushing under the lip of the cup is what is making the cells. The consistency of the paint is important, it has to be a little thin for it to work. I explain all this a few times in the video, you can watch around the 10 minute mark to see it again.

At 19:30, right before the torch- I'm obsessed. I. Love. This. I think people put too much umph on cells. Sometimes they can take an amazing abstract piece and make it look...too much. But I really am OBSESSED with this pour. Time to start cutting up the cups again. Woo hoo!!

It’s beautiful and very fascinating but I almost preferred it before you combed it and tilted. It kind of reminded me of photos from the Hubble Telescope. I think it would be neat to do each one and let it dry before doing the next pour. Having more control appeals to me. The finished work is quite beautiful.

Mina this is so fresh and pretty 😍 I spent the day painting myself, did a Dutch pour then an open cup and now, I want to prep a canvas and do one of these! I really like your color choices and your choice in layering. So many artists pour blues of different shades one on top of the other. Then when they stretch it out the blues have melded into one blue. I always wonder why do they do that?
