So do most flies have the same brain? Or are there differences between each pair of flies?
@ClausRow
@ClausRow 14 сағат бұрын
@@JobBouwman That's a complicated question! Some cells in the fly brain are singletons. So each brain is expected to have that cell for instance innervating in the appropriate layer. They won't be identical but very similar. As for the exact morphology you can expect variation. Some of the cell types are numerous like the Tm cells. Each one in it's group is very similar to each other though they have their differences even inside the same brain. If you are curious you can check out the whole brain yourself it's all online, search for Flywire. Many citizen scientist helped make this a reality!

I'm no academic neuroscientist but have devoted longer than half a century to learn how brains really work and what's the meaning of all the nervous signals in them: the mystery of cognition. And finally I understood it all. Not only that, but also cognition in other systems, e.g., in microbial life. Once one knows the nature and the texture of cognition, the medium in which it resides becomes irrelevant.

That tiny brain can integrate multiple sensory inputs, find food, water, mates, can walk and FLY! It's kind of hilarious that AI researchers can't even reason as well as a fruit fly despite using more energy than all the fruit flies that have ever lived, just to produce hallucinations.

i doubt it'll take 100 years to advance enough to map a human brain. once a technology is figured out, things just explode and advance faster and faster, now that we know how to do it, what a program needs to map a brain, and that large compaies are interested in this field as well, it's only maybe a decade away i feel before someone advances an AI program enough to map a human brain for us. this is wishfl thinking, but if this is the first step towards me eventually being put into a robot body that can fly or withstand time, for at least a few centuries, i'm all for it. my 343 guilty spark dreams may yet be reality
