Yet still no way to delete apps without their icons still showing. Or an easy way to download videos we record in games. But what the Quest really needs is the return of an OLED display, so dark scenes true black instead of the grayish black that LCD does.

That's really the only thing holding me back from getting a Quest 3. It's done most of the things that I could possibly want a HMD to do, and in some points even more, but OLED is important to me. Partially because of the inky blacks, partially because of the motion clarity, but also really importantly because of the potential for Dolby Vision support. Meta Quest would be perfect for HDR. Between having a standardized display, their own OS, and their own app store, the HDR quality could rival or even surpass the HDR seen in consoles. I get that OLED (at least micro-OLED) is still very expensive tech and thus understandably was omitted from the Quest 3 since the price has already gone up enough compared to the Quest 2, but MAN is LCD SDR holding back immersion in VR. At least for me.

Hey, one way you can remove the icons is by using the phone app and selecting remove from vr in the app page. The “add to vr” button changes to this. Maybe you can do the same on the quest store inside headset.

MR is the real surprised bonus to the quest 3! I didn't think I'd be that bothered about it but I've been extremely impressed from what I've experienced so far and we're only just getting started. Some cool vids for the Apple headset that I would like to see the q3 adopt too, and I can't see why they wouldn't be able to. I think there's a massive future in the MR platform, paving the way for those contact lenses of the future

I totally agree. I purchased a Quest 3 with the belief that mixed reality would be a gimmick, but a few of the apps that implement it well (in my opinion- "Please Don't Touch Anything- House Broken" does ) allows you to play in your home, which reduces VR sickness in people like my wife who are sensitive to it. It's baffling to me that Meta did not have more of a variety of apps and games to show off this ability, and also (it seems) didn't have the software refined at launch to make this close to the final version.

Any thoughts about which way to invest/purchase if Working on documents, either WORD OR APPLE NOTES, and wanting to work with compatible keyboard for capturing pics and typing up lecture study materials . Seems like from demos Vision Pro, might have the edge for multi screen, like where one might be warching KZbin video, and have an enormous screen to left showing all the notes taken on a subject. Not clear why QUEST wouldn’t be similar

They need to fix some bugs like, I’ve dropped using pass through cause of how sometimes it activates with a short flicker when I’m playing a game (and it shows my boundary for a second) and they also need to make the tap to pass through, much more spaced out taps. Cause I’ll scratch my head and it’ll go into pass through.

These are very solid updates for Quest 3. Quest 3 and Vision Pro do not compete. There is not a single customer on this planet who is thinking abut buying a Quest 3 who will decide to buy a Vision Pro instead or vice versa. One is focused on gaming and one on non-gaming utility, Apple ecosystem and full featured multi-tasking of apps (i.e. "spatial computing"). This is not opinion, but objectively they are different market segments based on price-point and primary utility of the devices. A small pickup truck like the Toyota Tacoma is price about $30,000 for base model. A mid-range Bentley luxury sedan around $220,000. seven times the price difference, very different utility as the truck is designed to haul loads, its higher up off the ground, etc... The Bentley all about luxury high-end features but can't compete with the Tacoma for hauling space, off-road activity etc... The type of customer who would buy a Toyota Tacoma is very different from the type of customer who would buy the Bentley, at least for their intended purposes. These vehicles are marketed entirely differently, so is the Quest 3 and Vision Pro. A customer might want one of each as they fill distinct utility, but both just happen to have four wheels and be transport vehicles. The difference between the Quest 3 and Vision Pro is very similar. Seven times the price, with feature spec sheet making Vision Pro objectively twice the fidelity's and performance (resolution, M2 SoC for multi-tasking vs Qualcomm XR2, etc...). We are talking about the same gap in markets. Also the utility of the Quest 3 primarily a gaming focused device, like the Tacoma's hauling ability, if you're a gamer the Vision Pro is going to about as useful to you as a Bentley luxury sedan would be to someone looking for the utility of a pickup. Apple and Meta do not view each other as direct competitors in this space. Meta is actually hoping the Vision Pro will be a success for Apple, because they want another vendor to help validate the XR space. At this point the gap between is more supportive than competitive. That will likely change down the road as they both eventually get to small form actor AR glasses around the $1000-$1500 price point. More technical distinction: Augments are widgets, Vision Pro runs full featured apps and it could multitask a dozen or more at the same time. Quest 3/Pro can at best run a limited set of Android apps in dedicated 2D windows. The Vision Pro offers "volumes" which work like augments for Quest 3, but instead of being widgets are full featured apps. Anything you can build in Unity3D or RealityKit can be built as a volume. Vision Pro offers developers access to Apple Computer Vision model to train on object and custom image recondition for AR app capabilities, Quest 3 does not.... Vision Pro does not have a focus on 3D/VR gaming and probably never will.

I think it would be cool if they added AI technology inside of VR/AR. Where you sign in and can have a physical representation of an AI. Maybe a robot or something of your liking that can assist you through VR/AR while in your home space or maybe inside of games themselves.

Being able to use the headset outside is still a limitation, of the quest. This does not seem to be as much of a limitation with the Apple Vision Pro. I would love it if Meta would focus on this limitation in its next iteration of the headset.

They're similar products yes, but not really competition. The price gap is $3000 and they have very different hardware. Quest Pro 2 might be competition to the vision pro or a cheaper vision product might compete with Quest 4 but right now they're not really competing.

They probably won't. You won't really be able to fix being stuck *really* close to two little screens and having those 4mp camera's output smeared all over your whole VR-field of view. Good lighting (white, bright light) on your end and perhaps slightly better noise reduction on their software side is all you can hope for and expect. The only other solution would be using camera's that are at the very least twice as expensive as the entire headset. On the bright side: the augments themselves will probably look pretty decent.

For me the most important part of gaming is that I can mod a game to make me invincible in a shooter or game like Asgard's Wrath, so I don't need to repeat over and over the same thing until I'm some day good enough to win that Boss or whatever has to be conquered. I honestly do think that while Meta's updates sometimes break stuff - they're one of the big pros of their devices. The Q2 at launch vs the Q2 right now, in terms of features and performance, is a pretty big difference. If they do the same with the Q3 and their next headsets, that does compensate somewhat for some of their... lesser qualities imho.

I literally just got the Quest 3 and right away I'm disappointed in the graphics quality not matching the computer. I'll be getting the USB3 cable to tether it and try some games that way. I like good graphics. I mean "Half Life Alyx" has an outstanding graphics, way better than many new VR games, and "Alyx" was made 4 years ago for VR headsets that would be considered outdated today. It still looks great, better than many other modern games. Same goes for "Lone Echo". I guess it's about how good work developers put and how well optimized the game is.

Small updates may not be that big of a deal but graphics are definitely important. That has been one of the biggest complaints from people that play consuls that have tried stand alone VR is that it looks like a PS2 game PS3 at best.

We don’t get a lot of clean, looking games on the quest because of production cost. It’s hard for developers to make a profit is VR.

Won't happen. This is how camera's work. They can only make slight adjustments on the software end. You can't expect 1000+ dollar camera quality on a 500 dollar MR device.

@KindOldRaven no, but I can expect the software to not set the iso to over 1000 in a brightly lit room, which appears to be exactly what is happening here, I'm using studio lights in my play space to try to get a cleaner passthrough so its very bright but it doesn't effect the artificial brightening of images that are being passed through to the displays and look even more washed out with the same noise levels.

Even considering Azura's Wrath II, a fantastic game, I still think VR is waiting for that first VISUALLY jaw dropping title in order to get the massive leap forward in popularity that it needs. So I think AMD and Nvidia should make graphics cards with more VR power in mind first.

Bro you making a mistake, I have 13 VR headsets including Crystal and Quest 3...... Just don't go for anything beyond Quest 3, not Crystal or Bigscreen or Vision Pro or even XR-4 which I also tried, Quest 3 reached the line of diminishing returns where anything above it won't be that noticeably better. Yes if you compare them back to back they will feel better overall, but Quest 3 is the sweet spot, despite trying even XR-4 I actually didn't feel shocked like I was feeling when I moved from Reverb G2 ro Arpara 5K..... We really hit diminishing return line with Quest 3, it's more than enough

The future will tell, I hope they will be a strong competitor but for now I just wait to get my hand on a vision pro. Also I don’t like the idea of having a facebook account and a company that sell your data on my head, watching my every moves. The data protection is going to be even more critical, how could you Trust Meta ? It makes no sense. Anyway I’m happy to watch what they are doing, it’s very interesting.
