Nobody really gives a shit about virtual reality anymore. And maybe, that’s probably for the best.

Found a better DP USB-C with power on amazon, make sure you get the DP one not HDMI the listing is called; Hagibis Switch Dock for Nintendo Switch & Switch OLED, USB C to DisplayPort Cable Adapter with 8K@60Hz DP, 100W PD I'm assuming it works with more than a Nintendo Switch so i go it, will test it out with my Mobile Phone/Samsung Dex

Matrix level VR content is basically going to require state of the art UE5 with all the trimmings. For that a compute/battery puck is basically a necessity, but it's still going to need at minimum eye tracking for foveated rendering in order to make high resolution VR a lot more viable to render on lower end hardware.

Meta buying more and more studios, some to acquire titles some to get devs. Their library is growing fast and you can only use their headsets so that stops progress a lot.

The obsession with VR optics confuses me. Shouldn't we be pushing for more interactivity? Optics are fine as they are IMO. And the games are already a struggle to run. We don't need bigger resolutions.

Great video, this summarizes many points I've noticed about VR and what it needs to take off, the large detailed worlds living in the cloud or even on PCs but with reliable and low latency connections to headsets is a huge necessity, if we really want to exploit the joy of exploration in 3d, which seems to be a very overlooked use case - I always look for experiences and games that simply allow a degree of open-world freedom in beautiful or bizarre environments, with creatures or humans coming up close; there is nothing like that feeling on flatscreen, and it is straightforward for devs (ue5) we need this to drive better gaussian splats tech / reality capture which should lead to digital earth twins which can be used as a base layer for games. (If open source). Thought we might have a huge crowd sources effort to build middle earth and other worlds kicking off by now ; the peices are almost in place

Give me 140 deg fov and the immersion would massively increase and actually offer something truly superior to flat screen for several use cases. Even if this would of course take a hit on polygon count for example - devs can choose to use those extra degrees or not. We need breakthroughs in frame generation via AI, tailored for stereo displays - it seems plausible that there is a way to squeeze out way more efficiency by exploiting the similarities from right and left eye pov, or is that already done?

To get the best out of VR, people will need a VR treadmill and full face/ body tracking. It's going to be expensive. The value you will get out of it will be the ability to virtually explore many places that you wouldn't otherwise get to see. The reason full face body and face tracking is important is because we need better and more realistic avatars that can show our full range of emotions and body language to communicate effectively with others. In order for VR to really take off, it needs to be a social thing, like local multiplayer mixed reality type things where you can share your experience with another so it's not isolating.

@@totoroben a custom exo suit while expensive now, might come way down in cost as new components used in humanoid robots or to tele operate them, will be mass produced. The same tech used for telepresence/teleoperation can be used as your universal input/output device for VR, even helping to support the headset and onboard PC, etc so no need to do drastically cut the weight and bulk. I'm talking about a home system that is suspended on a motion rack or just by a column that connects to the exosuit at the waist / center of gravity. With this system , you can simulate walking, running, flying, climbing stairs, etc. with force feedback even, well past what a treadmill can do. (Hard to explain, but there are a few companies working on this) The experiences would be incredible, the motion tracking would be super precise, you could use it for exercise, martial arts training, etc customized to your needs. - yes this is like 10 years away or more sadly haha

i thought that vr performance depends on building 2 pictures kind of for 2 eyes and thats why its so bad and there is no ray tracing tech there etc. and ai filters etc is kind of dont fit for 2 pictures yet. but i hope theyll figure it out, how to do it for real VR experiences 🥳👍

Really good video, thank you. My concern is what we have seen from meta is a price sensitive customer. $299 seems to be a sweet spot. These amazing headsets with significantly more grunt aren't going to attract the mass market and therefore developers. Thankfully great gameplay doesn't necessarily need amazing graphics. I love playing >5hrs of racket ciub vr a week, great physics, cartoon graphics.
