YES!! As soon as I saw the demo I was disappointed it was relegated to a compressed 1080p video. I was starting to loose hope this would release. Shame about the vehicle though, the physics were really good
@gamefromscratch Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it does make sense, since they are granting you commercial rights to the assets in the demo and the Rivian probably made that problematic. I do wish they'd just put a different car in in it's place, but oh well.
@existentialselkath1264 Жыл бұрын
@@gamefromscratch same with the matrix demo, they got rid of the actors likenesses and cut out the entire first section. I was kinda expecting something like that, but the starter content car model on the same rig would have been good enough
@gamefromscratch Жыл бұрын
Even better, they've actually released some very high quality free cars int he permanently free collection, they could have used any of them. Oh well.

There's a deep dive video on the vehicle suspension system coming. I don't know if there will be a sample project as well but you should be able to recreate the system from the tutorial

I mean even ue4 is still mind blowing the quality that you can get out of the engine, only problem is as you mentionned beefy PC needed, and not very much indie friendly, but for Studios it is a gold mine, I would have to say number 1 Engine rn.

A demo project that compiles and runs? Well that's something Unity doesn't have. ;) UE 5.2 looking goooood.
@anon_y_mousse Жыл бұрын
That is spectacular. I will never be able to run that without a completely new computer. And now I'm wondering how to go about creating such a thing myself to make it open source for all game engines, because such technology shouldn't be locked into just UE. I doubt I could make it as good, nor as high-res, but if I could get even halfway there I would be ecstatic.
@zoeherriot Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's totally doable - just expect to spend a lot of time on it. I currently work on terrain tools in a AAA studio - and there is a lot of work involved.

@gamesfromscratch have you seen the Infinigen project by Princeton University from a few days ago? An open source fully procedural terrain generator. Not made for games specifically but I'm sure it will be possible to export it.

Question as I'm not using 5.2 yet: Are the foliage assets using Pivot Painter 2.0 wind? I'm always looking for more PP2 foilage assets for my collection.

If this demo weights 50 gigs, imagine how full actual games will weight? 10 tb SSDs will have to become standard at some point (and that includes the price)

Project files are not compressed like games, for example the City Sample is 100gb, but the game itself is 20gb
@azaelue5 Жыл бұрын
@@Oakarius True, this demo definitely isn't for a game, I haven't looked at the texture sizes but if they are raw Megascans assets they probably are all 8K, which makes the demo very cinematography-oriented. But the Valley of the Ancient Demo which technically is a game, is 200gb when all shaders are compiled, but it compresses to a 30gb executable, which is the size of most of games (except GTA because... Yeah)

Wow that looks great. It's not a patch on Unreal Engine but I've been playing with procgen in my C++-based side project engine / editor. Here's a Nintendo inspired Metropolis demo of it running on Steam Deck: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqCyYXywi8qjmpo

@azaelue5 Жыл бұрын
The Unreal team is slowly working on releasing tutorials and courses, remember that this is an experimental feature, just like Substrate and other things, they won't have a proper learning material until in Beta or Released. Also PCG is relatively simple at its core: Sample, Modify, Generate

@@ryankramer8358 Well no, Unreal is very scalable and a 1080ti can technically run Lumen and Nanite. Also, PCG is far from being a simple place tool, it's an entirely new way of making environments and it will save a lot of time.
