I feel like AI is becoming more of a marketing ploy. I've been using Cascadeur since its first beta version, and it uses pose estimation algorithms. The only AI they've added is pose extraction from images or videos (Mocap).

Quick tip, if you want to set the BPM to a value that is normally unavailable through the in-editor slider, there is a workaround: 1. Save your current project and open the file in Notepad or any text editor 2. You will see a bunch of comma-separated numbers. The 5th one is the BPM 3. Change the value to however you like as long as 1 <= BPM <= 220 4. Save and load the file back in Bosca Ceoil and tadaa

In a world where console ports don't allow free engine ports due to paid API there are companies with closed source forks of Godot that can port the game for you. But Godot can export for android natively

This ide's support for godot is complete shit. No point paying for it. Not to mention most of their alleged godot support is actually community made stuff resold for profit. Avoid.

Extremely happy to hear the plans beyond Unity 6.1 (unify RP and ECS in core). Big hopes that Unity will finally stop pushing out half-baked features and be able to develop with focus instead of having to support dozens of version and setup combinations. Seems as if Unity is actually on a decent path again. Honestly, I hope they will just introduce a flat 1 or 2% royalty above $1m revenue or something like that in the future. Simple und transparent, still cheaper than Unreal, completely irrelevant to the vast majority of indie devs anyway and it would help finance high quality updates in maybe even faster cadence. Something everyone would greatly benefit from. Especially now when they want to shift the core of operations back to the engine instead of ads/monetization additional services. Keep in mind Unity (the actual company) has never turned any profits yet, so I'd fully expect some additional changes to the pricing sooner or later. The important bit is watching out whether it will be a sustainable and fair path forward where they don't try to rip off their customers.

Picked this up a little while ago and started looking now - literally their ultra beginner, "intro to everything. start here" course is showing UX etc for Godot 4.2, not updated for 4.3. Which doesn't make me confident about the rest of the stuff.

I left anything I had to do with them at the nearest curb a year ago when that news first came out. But, having said that, it looks like the majority of the company disagreed with what the previous CEO was doing. Now they are finally able to reverse things. I don't have a problem with the company making money. But this new direction helps them get some more money in their business while making the fee structure more easy to reason about and plan for. Game developers are like artists. It's not like they just start making millions of dollars out of the gate. I would be happy to pay for tools if I'm making money and if those tools are helping me make money.

For those who are unsure whether it is worth acquiring all the assets now or whether wait for the launch of FAB (spoiler: you shoud wait), here is your answer: (Directly from Fab Transition FAQs) Will my Megascans from Quixel or Bridge transfer over to Fab? If you acquired Megascans under paid subscription plans, they will appear in your Fab library under the Fab Personal and Professional Standard License tiers. The Fab Standard License has been granted in addition to the license that was in place when you purchased the assets through Quixel or Bridge. So even though your legacy Quixel license is not visible on Fab, if you download these assets from Fab, you may still use them according to the terms of the legacy Quixel license. If you acquired the assets for free via the Unreal Engine subscription plan or under a free trial of a Quixel plan, they will not automatically transfer over to Fab. From Fab’s launch until the end of 2024, you may download Megascans-both those you may have acquired in the past and those that may be new to you-for free from Fab. Any Megascans that you add to your library on Fab during this promotion period, you will be entitled to use under the terms of the Fab Standard License even after the promotion period ends. Please be aware that simply downloading a free Megascan on Fab in 2024 will not grant you this entitlement - you need to use the “Add to library” option. Assets acquired under the Quixel Education program or Quixel Studio license will not automatically transfer to Fab. Thank you, so the people who only want to use the assets in Unreal can start downloading now and keep everything forever. But if you want the license for use in other engines you need to wait for FAB to launch.

i guess they will remove blender logo (they placed quixel logo next to epic and blender logo next to quixel)now that it wont be free anymore which was their moto for a time being, Free for all not anymore. i bought all the assets using the script hope i get to keep it.

Am I the only person that thinks it’s a mistake for unity to try to compete with unreal? And I’m not saying they should throw in the towel and walk away, I’m saying they should embrace the niche they have and put a heavy focus on community and Hobby development. Instead of focusing on technically impressive demos, they should be focusing on making game development incredibly accessible. They should be developing tools that are highly functional out the box. And they should be developing a library of assets. And most of all They should be focused on making their own native platform for rapid distribution. They should be competing with Roblox, not unreal. I’d like to see an integrated asset library that streams assets into the project that follow a universal set of practices such as folder management for a monthly fee. Punch in Gunshots And get a library of audio clips that you can play immediately, that is automatically discarded when you decide you don’t want it. Punch in fire And get a bunch of assets of fires. Make it so someone can get a rough approximation of what they want within a month of development, Then fine tune everything and click a publish button that sends it straight to their platform With a plethora of monetization options. Lastly, make that monthly subscription also include playing games that opt to Gain revenue that way.

For those of you saying "go claim all the Megascans" well... you CAN'T. The Megascans button no longer works. As of 9/21/2024 9am when you click Megascans on the marketplace, the page is just blank, no store, no options, nothing, just blank.

Gotta say, I'm impressed with the probe volume, I didn't expect good lighting in one click. This reminds me of the Cryengine voxel GI but with probes. It's still using baked lighting to do it (ancient tech) but the results are what I'm actually impressed with. And yes the multiple pipelines was a nightmare to support. Good riddance!!

this is why i am not using megascan to begin with, better use the one you make or poly haven that is confirmed free to use without limitation megscan also limit the free use only for ue engine, so that is why i am not using it
