It is the living embodiment of the one small part of Ymir that had the will to escape her slavery. Even if subconsciously, she created the Attack Titan to somehow someday free herself, sending this will forward 2000 years in the future to the titan's final holder.
@maizeman90 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I love this little detail. It's also ironic that of all of the 9 titans, the users of the Attack Titan, the titan that fights for freedom, are the least free. Even the users of the founder have some free will. But every action Attack titan users make are influenced by an already determined future.
@SomeYouTubeTraveler Жыл бұрын
@@maizeman90 But the ironic twist on _that_ is that the Attack titan users are slaves to nothing less than Ymir's desire for freedom. As Eren realized and said to her... all this time, she was waiting for someone. Her subconscious 1/9th of a Self desired to rebel against King Fritz, even though the other 8/9ths of herself were Stockholm Syndrome-devoted to him and his kingdom. That 1/9th of herself shot forward into the future along the Paths. Ymir is not trapped _in_ the Paths. The Paths _ARE_ Ymir. Her past and future self all at once. And all her descendants are thus connected to her will throughout time. They are all "slaves" to her will and she is a "slave" to Fritz's, but the one part of her that rebelled, that one tiny sliver that kept running from him even with an arrow in her leg, that one part of her became the Attack Titan and finally rose up to silence the rest.
@tanweeransari2132 Жыл бұрын
Not exactly... All Attack Titan successors cannot control their predecessors, if that was possible, Grisha could have controlled Kruger. Eren was the only Attack Titan inheriter who controlled his predecessors because he had Paths. In this particular episode if Zeke hadn't brought them to their father's memories, Eren wouldn't have manipulated him. And maybe that's how his ideology of Freedom and Moving Forward took over Attack Titan(with powers of Paths) and that's why every predecessor of this Titan never bowed down to anyone and kept moving forward. Whereas we audience thought ideology of Attack Titan took over mind of Eren back in starting of Season 4.

The Attack Titan's ability is to receive the memories of its future heirs. This was hinted at when Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin towards the end of S3. In fact, Eren saw his future when he touched Historia's hand. Note that they can only see these memories, but cannot interact with them. So how could Eren meddle in the past? Well, he had 3 perfect conditions: 1. he Had Attack Titan ability 2. Founder Titan ability with access to coordinate 3. he was also in contact with someone with royal blood, too known as Zeke. After Zeke touched Eren's head, they were able to see Grisha's past memories with Eren using the power of coordinates. They could freely see the past. Now if Eren had another Titan other than the Attack Titan, he could just watch. But since the Attack Titan can see forward in time, Grisha can use this to see Eren's memories of the same event he is currently experiencing in real time. So, this means that every time Grisha can see or hear Eren, he is actually receiving a brief future memory from Eren's point of view where he can see with his eyes and hear his words. That means he is seeing himself from a third perspective. Then if he responds, his response is simply part of the memory that Eren/Zeke are seeing, allowing for two-way communication through time. Also note that whenever Grisha sees Zeke, Eren is always behind his father. So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, he is actually due to the memories of Eren's point of view.

Great explanation but it isn't forward in time, it actually is the attack titan's ability to send the current user's memories BACK in time, meaning Eren is choosing when to show his father future events, hence why Grishs doesn't know if Carla surives until Eren shows him later and that causes Grisha to give Eren the titan.

In my opinion, I dont think the Attack titan actually has a special ability. Instead when you eat a titan shifter you gain their memories as well which is a neural link that other titan's possess albeit limited. What makes more sense is that once Eren's will is shared with Ymir's in the next episode, Eren starts using Ymir's paths power to send snippets of his perspective down to past holders of the attack titan causing a loop. This shared experience with Ymir means Eren's neural link became unlimited and his thoughts no longer work within time so he can now see his past and his future plus share whatever (his future or his past) to previous attack titan users (even himself before he accessed Ymir's path ability). This is why he sees the Rumbling when he was in Liberio undercover and he shown snippets of it to Grisha after killing the royals in this episode. I have tried to be concise. Please reply if this wasn't clear enough

Grisha's life is so interesting it really shows how an environment really influences a person's actions when he was in Liberio he HAD to raise Zeke like that, there was no other choice, it was for the good of the Eldians, the everyday life was a constant reminder and a boost of resolve for him, they HAD to change the way things were but once he got away from that reality, and went inside the the walls where life was actually peaceful in comparison, his resolve wavered and now he was actually able to put his love for his son in front of the cause it wasn't because he loved Eren more than Zeke, when he was in Liberio, he was in a constant state of desperation, something had to change and he worked everyday to achieve that, but in Paradis things were good, he found love again and became complacent, enough to delay his life's mission.

I think Grisha changes his mind after learning of the Wall falling and Carla's death (which he only learns of after seeing Zeke and telling him he has to stop Eren). He knew the Wall would be destroyed, but didn't know when or if Carla would survive. When he _does_ learn of it, he passes his Titans on to Eren, explicitly telling him he has to avenge his mother. Of course, knowing of the outside world, he knows it was Marley's Warriors that were responsible for attacking Shiganshina and likely already knows Eren will bring about their destruction, even if kid Eren won't understand at the time

For the question of why did Grisha gave Eren the titan, in the episode, where we see a flashback of him doing so, this was the moment, when he discovered that Carla died. Eren was screaming: "Dad, what are you doing? You started acting weirdly after i said that mom has died". I think that this broke him completely, and maybe even reignited that hatred towards the outside world that he had once, and made him going with this future, that he saw.

Eren 100% influenced Grisha's decisions .... He needed Zeke to show Eren the memories in order to influence Grisha's actions in the past - Zeke has an "Oh shit" moment when he realized he was being used by Eren for this exact reason and realized he screwed up by bringing Eren into his father's memories. The attack titan is the only titan who could have actually spoken to the other attack titan holders of the past, whereas those with founding blood can look into the memories while in the coordinate, but not interact with them - so Eren needed Zeke to open the memories of Grisha to him, so while he used the Attack Titan's powers, could speak to Grisha and influence his decisions. Zeke could only interact with Grisha because Eren was there with him.

19:20 because the original plan was to do a small rumbling to destroy military bases of Marley to stop them from attacking Paradis for 50 years and THEN do the euthanization. But since Eren and Zeke were outside of the walls in Marley at that point, it didn't make any sense to start a small rumbling because the titans would probably also trample them.
@evanbell7825 Жыл бұрын
You guys may already know but for anyone who doesnt: The time paradox arc is probably the hardest thing to understand in AOT. To understand it, you have to almost force yourself to believe that the story started from the ending or near the end. The past happened because of eren. When eren kissed historias hand, he saw his father killing the founding titan and the family, but he also saw himself and zeke, which let him know about "seeing the future" through the earlier attack titans. When eren kissed historias hand, he saw his fathers memories and in his fathers memories he could see HIS future (due to the attack titans powers.) The entire attack titan story started when eren realized that he could see the future. Now we're in the paths with zeke, zeke didn't know this, but when he collided heads with eren and brought him back to the memories, he WROTE history. That allowed eren to manipulate every aspect of the story. Why do you think every attack titan is a nationalist? Remember that scene where eren is in the dungeon and he's saying "fight, fight, you can't win if you don't fight." I'm 99% sure that was to the first attack titan, telling them to fight. (Since we know that they can send memories back and show the predecessors the future.) Also remember how eren specifically told grisha to leave the reiss father alive? He did that because he needed the father to bring eren and historia together so that eren could kiss historias hand and find out about his power. Everything that happened in the past was orchestrated by eren to get him to this point, and that happened because zeke went into grishas memories with Eren. Throughout the show eren realizes that he's become a slave to his own future and tiny instances (sasha saying meat, mikasa not admitting her love to eren) PROVE to eren that the future doesn't change, that's why he's always so frustrated and depressed. The time paradox goes way deeper but that's the spark notes aspect of it. (Also grisha never knew that Carla died, so even though he knew eren would slaughter unfathomable amount of people in the rumbling, once he found out about carla's death his hate for marley reignited. Another piece orchestrated by eren, he purposefully didn't give those memories to grisha so he'd go through with the plan.)
@haingocto4289 Жыл бұрын
Actually, Eren only finds out how to manipulate the past through his father in this episode, he didn’t know before. At the beginning, Eren didn’t even want to go into his dad’s memories, he even said “I’m no longer brainwashed” to Zeke to get out of there and he was so surprised when he found out that Grisha can actually see Zeke as a “bearded man”. When Eren kiss Historia’s hand, he only see the inevitable future where he did the rumbling and a lot of people die but he didn’t see how he can get to that future. But I do agree with you, Eren is the one that plans all of this and have influenced many previous Attack titans, but that’s the Eren after teaming up with Ymir, not the Eren after kissing Historia’s hand.
@ssj4rit Жыл бұрын
@@haingocto4289 nah if he inherited his own future memories through his father’s own memories, then he atleast probably HEARD (not saw) himself manipulating his father to kill the Reiss family. That’s why he looked so disgusted after kissing her hand. But he probably didn’t know how it would happen until Zeke took him into PATHS. That’s when he realizes what he’s destined to do. I think the first time Zeke looks over at him and Eren just has a serious/angry face is because he realizes he’s meant to intervene in this moment. Also given how we see explicitly Eren kissing Historia’s hand again while these events play out is intended to mean he gets some of these memories too, I think. Otherwise it’s a bit odd to include it.
@evanbell7825 Жыл бұрын
I mean eren literally told zeke that he was disgusted with his father. Zeke thought that was because his father killed the children etc, but eren was disgusted with his father for giving up in that moment. Eren has that angry face because of what the founding titan said, the founding titan said that his moms death was basically justified and that they all deserve to die. (Just realized you said the first face he made, yeah that's on point)
@haingocto4289 Жыл бұрын
@@ssj4rit to me he looked more shocked than disgusted after kissing His’s hand, I mean he was going to kill millions of people. We are unsure of all the details he’d seen after the hand kissing but definitely not how to manipulate the past through his father. He might saw or hear himself pushing his father to kill the Reiss but he definitely didn’t know when that’s going to happen or how to make it happen at all (which I have mention in my previous comment). And with the face Eren was making when Zeke first look over, I think it just Eren being angry with what Freida was saying. Everything she was saying is completely the opposite of what he believes in. She said that Eldian should be locked up and suffer for what they did, and especially after everything he had been through, he definitely disagreed with her. Grisha literally begged her to save his family and her own people but she refused, she wanted Eldian to stay in their cages and Eren wanted freedom so yeah, he was not happy hearing her said that. But I do agree with you, that was the exact moment when he realized what he needed to do. For the hand kissing scene keep popping up to me indicate the inevitable future ahead of them, everything they do or going to do will result in that moment and they (the attack titans) are guided by that moment to act correctly to make sure that it will happen. It’s like a reminder that they have to do what needed to be done no matter what, for Grisha was to kill the Reiss and took the founding titan because that’s the ‘right’ thing to do.

Eren showed him that the Walls will fall but he didn't show him WHEN. Grisha went to take the Founder thinking he was out of time ( which he was ), without knowing that Carla was about to die and the walls would fall. I think the reason Eren and Zeke didnt make contact at Marley, because they need to near the wall to release the Small rumbling to destroy Marley army to keep peace at Paradise until they died out. There is no point for sterilize Eldians 1st because when they make contact affter, Eren can still change it back. So ...no need to complicated the story more when its too complex anyways. Welcome back guys! Been a rough few weeks without ur reactions. Memories of the future is the greatest episode of any show i have ever seen. Eren being the one manipulating Grisha and the other attack titans is just the craziest and most insane plot twist ever. Eren was literally pulling the strings from behind the scenes manipulating everyone so he would get the outcome he wanted in the future. Grisha’s voice actor deserves an award for his performance here. Simply outstanding. Grisha is literally such a GOATED character, every single episode with him in it is incredible. His voiceactor literally put his life into the role and you can really feel it. The end of the episode made me tear up, Grisha was never a bad person. It was Eren all along. Remember back in season 3 when Eren touched historia’s hand? He saw himself manipulating Grisha and into the future and the past so that’s why he looked like he was so lost and shocked after it happened. Because of what Eren learnt by connecting with the royal blood, he realized that the future was simply inevitable. That is why we saw him change over the course of season 4. When Eren said he was «disgusted» back in season 3 about his father killing the royal family, he was actually not disgusted by the fact that he killed them, but for the fact that he didn't want to. Eren was literally disgusted with his own father not wanting to murder children and people for his own sake. Another thing, if ur wondering about why Grisha could see Zeke think about it like this: Eren is like a camera, and Grisha is watching himself through Eren's perspective. We learnt that the Attack titan can see memories of it’s future attack titan inheritors. Eren with both the founding and attack titan here also came in contact with royal blood so he was able to send memories of eren’s future (what we are seeing in the episode) to Grisha, so Grisha knew he was being watched because he saw the memories through Eren’s eyes since it was Eren’s memories. Therefor he didn’t actually see Zeke or touch him like the anime made it seem like. He just saw him through the memories and therefor «saw» him. Eren actually allowing Grisha to see Zeke was kind of a way for Eren to help Zeke get closure. Zeke finally got his father's love. Shows us that Eren isn't completely emotionally dead In the middle of the episode we also see Grisha saying he wanted Frida to stop the titans from killing everyone and not destroying the walls. In the middle of the episode we see Grisha’s expression kind of change and he then says «My house got destroyed during the attack», keep in mind this was before it even had happened yet. This means Eren was manipulating Grisha, sending him memories of what was going to happen, but carefully selecting which ones he allowed him to see so he could gain "control" over him. Frida was also controlled by the vow reanouncing war as we clearly see when her eyes changed color into purple after she opened them again in the middle of the episode. Grisha also said to Zeke to «stop Eren». Grisha was a man who lived his entire life full of hatred towards Marley and hated them with his entire heart. The fact that even Grisha, the man who wanted to see Marley BURN, thought that Eren’s plan was simply going to far. That goes to show how gruesome and horrible the future Eren showed him really is. The writing here is nothing but perfect. Aot is truely a masterpiece man.

Glad to have you guys back. In my own understanding for "why zeke and eren didn't do it when they first met in marley" It is because they don't totally trust each other (considering they fought with different sides) and they don't know what could've happened if they made contact (if they will transform or who would we in control of the founding). I would also like to point out that in 8:40, Grisha is literally speaking with the future eren from Grishas timeline at that moment. And my only explanation on how Grisha was able to hug Zeke or see him is that Grisha was literally hugging the air at that moment because he saw it from Eren's point of view. It is still crazy to think that one person (Isayama) can write something this good and complicated that can affect someone's feelings and point of view in life.

Regarding to the question at the end why they didnt just touch in Marley. 2 reasons. 1 they just wanted to be extremly cautious as they didnt know what would exactly happen if they touched. 2) part of the euthanization plan was to still have a small rumbling so they qhould better be in paradise when they start this.
@ShrimpyVongue Жыл бұрын
1. The reason why ig grisha passed down the titan power even though he said to stop eren to zeke has something to do with Carla dying and i think her dying was kinda made him go along with eren''s plan to save Eldia 2. Zeke and Eren didn't touch in Marley because they really didn't know what that power's consequences could be and probably didn't want to activate the titan powers which will alert the nearby titan shifters. Also they didn't really trust each other at that moment enough to start the rumbling.

Actually no the time thing in aot is predetermined. In ither words things cant be changed. Any future they see cannot be undone. This is one of the reasons why Eren made that atrocious face when he kissed Historia’s hand and saw the memories of him manipulating his dad and then accomplishing the rumbling, and that it was a fact that it was going to happen. So basically what made him so majorly upset was that by looking into the future, he took away his own freedom and will because from then on everything he does no matter what it is, would lead his goal, the rumbling. The one thing he did not see was his own death, which is why he let his friends do whatever

⚠️ THIS IS GONNA BE PRETTY LONG ⚠️ Hey guys thanks for the amazing episode you can’t believe how much I’ve missed watching you guys it’s really really great to have you back. it’s really great to see other people enjoy this MASTERPIECE. Anyways, I’m gonna explain and breakdown the episode because believe me most, if not all, of us did not understand from the first time, and some are still confused. This explanation is based on my personal and other online analyzers so credit to them. I hope u guys read it. so in the last episode Zeke gained control of the founder Ymir power (since he’s royal) over every single Eldian on the planet. With this potential he could finally complete his euthanization plan and sterilize all subjects of Ymir, however being the amazing brother that he is he only wanted to do this with Eren by his side. In his mind he sees the reason Eren betrayed him is because he was brainwashed by Grisha to become an Eldian restorationist which is of course what happened to Zeke himself when he was growing up for that reason he uses the power of the founder to take them into Grisha’s memories so he can make Eren realize that he’s been manipulated by the father. There are rules for traveling through memories, the first one is knowing that the two brothers are NOT actually traveling into the past but rather this is more like a simulation created by the founding titan. In this simulation they can witness key moments from Grisha’s life but no one can see them back since everyone is basically an NPC. This brings us to rule #2 which is that because all of these memories are just visual representations of things that already took place, it means that Zeke and Eren SHOULD NOT be able to change how anything plays out. PLEASE FOCUS HERE: In the scene where Grisha was sleeping on the desk in the basement, he was receiving memories from the future while he was asleep that belonged to *present day Eren* or *the Eren who’s in the memories with Zeke* and as we know, every titan shifter sees the memories of the previous shifter except for the Attack titan which can sometimes see glimpses of memories of its future shifters (just like when Kruger/ the owl saw and knew Mikasa and Armin). In other words, in this scene Grisha (who’s from the past) is able to see memories of Eren (who’s in the present day) and if you notice (it happens quickly but try to go back to the scene and notice), *Present Day Eren* looked down at the picture of Zeke and his parents and *Grisha from the past* immediately reacts and apologizes to Zeke then when *Present Day Eren* looked at his bearded brother which is Zeke, *Grisha who’s from the past* immediately reacted again as he sees a vision of a bearded man who he recognizes as Zeke. What this shows is that thanks to his Attack titan, Grisha can occasionally see the future through Eren’s POINT OF VIEW. In other words, he’s seeing all of that through the eyes of Eren and if you notice Eren is always standing behind all of them so Grisha is seeing himself + Zeke, he never once saw his son Eren as a grownup, he commented on Zeke’s appearance but never once mentioned Eren. As they go through the memories, Zeke started to realize that Eren is different from him and he has always fought anyone or anything that threatened his freedom. Why did Zeke continue to go through the memories with Eren then? Because he still believed he could change Eren’s mind the same way Mr. Xavar has saved him and would not continue with his plan until he finds at least one memory that might change his brother’s prospective. In the scene in which Grisha was writing down his final touches in his book in the basement, he senses a presence while staring at his key since he’s receiving memories from *Present Day Eren* who’s staring at him at that moment, so Grisha was seeing a vision of himself from his son’s POV. Since Grisha is seeing visions from Eren’s eyes, it explains why he can’t see him but he can SENSE him strongly (just like when he was staring at him multiple times and strongly felt his anger in the chapel). The day Grisha went to the chapel to take the founding, was the same day Eren’s mom was eaten, that’s why you can see Eren getting angrier and angrier as Frida talks about the king’s ideals and basically they should all die, however Grisha here has only seen parts of the memories Eren showed him and never shown him when his wife died. But after that he went to young Eren to give him the syringe and that’s when young Eren told him that his mom was eaten (I think it was showed in the ep were Eren remembered the conversation he had with his father before he ate him I can’t remember it sorry). Back to when they were in the chapel, as I said Grisha did not see Eren he reacted and looked towards him because he was receiving memories from the present day Eren who is standing next to him, he was basically seeing himself talking to the royal family + he felt his massive anger meaning Grisha was living that moment from BOTH his own and Eren’s prospective. He was seeing the same things Eren was seeing and felt the same emotions Eren was feeling, a connection made possible by the Attack titan’s ability. In the scene where Eren talked to his dad and told him to stand up, that memory of Eren saying that was sent to the paths where his dad received the message ( it happens within seconds so it appears like it’s a live conversation). It’s funny they showed a scene of when Eren kissed Historia’s hand because during that kiss Eren experienced all of his father’s memories from the chapel INCLUDING the memories that Grisha received from the future. What this means in reality is that four years ago Eren didn’t just see his dad’s memories, but also the memories that was sent to his dad by the FUTURE VERSION OF HIMSELF (NOT EVEN HIM THE ONE STANDING NEXT TO HIM, NO THE FURTHER FUTURE ONE). So he knew he’s the one that motivated his father to do that + he saw other different future memories that made him have that terrified expression on his face. After Grisha came out of his titan body, he confirmed that he saw memories from the future Eren who’s even in the further future than the Eren who’s in the memories with Zeke which I think he saw the rumbling happening and the scenes it causes, which means that when Eren kissed Historia’s hand, he saw what became of the rumbling. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but Grisha was able to hug Zeke at the end was because Eren was staring at his brother so Grisha is seeing everything thru Eren’s eyes, so he goes to hug him since he knows where Zeke is standing in relation to himself, and in the past dimension this seems to result in contact, but imo I think that if anyone in the past passes by Grisha, he would see him hugging air. Of course all of this was possible because of the Attach titan’s power, so if their dad were to have any other titan shifter then he wouldn’t be able to see the future thru Eren’s eyes.

Eren didnt show Grisha the memory of Carla dying YET. Thats why Grisha was on the fence to carry Eren’s plan. However, when Grisha realized that Carla was killed by Marley, he decided to go through with Eren’s plan. U can see in the episode titled Bystander that the first question that Grisha asks Eren was about Carla and he realizes she was dead. Regarding the memories: From what I understood even Eren didnt see the full future, he only saw scattered memories sent to him by future Eren, just like how Grisha saw them. So he wasnt sure how he will end up unlocking the founder power but he kept moving forward to fulfill the prophecy. Which could be explained by his speech to Falco where he said he didnt know whats beyond hell but he will keep pushing forward.
