'Mind games would be played' : S Jaishankar on China’s approach towards bilateral ties

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday said arriving at an equilibrium and maintaining it is going to be one of the “biggest challenges” for India-China ties even as he asserted that the immediate issue at hand was Beijing’s departure from laid down norms triggering the border row in eastern Ladakh.
In an interactive session at the Raisina Dialogue, he cautioned against China’s “mind game” to restrict the issues under the bilateral framework and said India must not forgo its rights to harness other factors in the world to get better terms on an equilibrium.

When China occupied our border areas in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, no world leader called China the aggressor or supported India. Recently, Bhutan has given Doklem to China in exchange for a much larger area in eastern Bhutan. Today, India is the only country out of 14 with whom Chia has land borders that are not settled. It is a failure of our diplomacy.

We fought the much more technically advanced American-lead forces in Korea with our bare hands. We went through a same deal with a another superpower, the Soviet Union, who inspired Vietnam to wrestle us through the 70’s by sending commando raids and daily shellingd into China throughout the ‘70’s, which… *if the shelling and raids from Vietnam into China wasn’t halted that, if given another month of fighting, we’d be in the outskirts of Hanoi and started digging in there* Therefore, give us your best shot cuz if we dare to look the Americans in the eye balls in Korea and the Soviets in Nam and across the Amur River, your country would make for a welcome invitation to give us a try… With regards to ties: I doubt you would be able to (forget the humiliation you got) and naturally we (the humiliation we got) which is why we are arming ourselves to the teeth to defend ourselves - not from you - but from the top dog the pack you belong… So, bring it on as they say cuz the show indeed must go on as the Bugsy rhymes go!! .

S Jaishankar is one of the sharpest knives in the diplomat Drawer, his country (India) is not a state colonial anymore, so the Indian cabinet can choose what is best for their country. My thoughts: 1. The fella from Australia is a CIA operative or at the minimum a mouthpiece for the neocons from Washington. He did not waste any time to thoroughly demonize China: aggressive, threats, rise, etc. etc., all the buzzwords and talking points. Nothing new there. I’ll have to give him some credit of coming up with perhaps something new: QUAD is made in China. Cute! If QUAD was really made in China, it would work a lot better and not so expensive. Last I checked, Australia is coughing up $400B for a few subs that they need like a hole in their head. 2. The woman didn’t really say anything but she’s the pretty face of the cast. 3. The problem is that pretty words don’t matter that much. At the end of the day, it is the results you deliver to the Indian people to lift their livelihood that counts. If India agrees to form a NATO-like military alliance among the BRICKS countries, China will gladly settle its border dispute with India. This will also bring Pakistan to Heal.
