Daigo has earned his wings 1000 times over. He doesn't have to prove anything anymore. There are younger players with more to prove that will be more and more difficult to compete with as he ages. These newer players have taken the spotlight. And I really like a lot of them. But I will always want to see Daigo compete. And I will always cheer for him in any matchup.

Yeah whatever. So now he's just an has-been ? I really don't think he would enjoy the way you think. I don't think he ever played to prove something. Back in 2009-2010 Japan was so ahead of everyone in SV IV and Daigo was one of the few Japanese player making the trip to EVO. I don't want to undermine his achievement, but that prob the reason why he don't destroy everyone anymore. Simply put. There's more player around his level now. I respect the guy and he's one of the best player at fighting game in the world. But his status was always a bit over the top.

Has-been? Your words, not mine. Nobody can stay at the top forever. You get older and can't do the same things you once could. That's just a fact of life. It doesn't take away from what he's achieved. Michael Jordan was once the greatest basketball player ever to grace the sport. Time passed, he got older and couldn't do it anymore so he started coaching. I don't think you need to throw around a term like "has-been" just because somebody can't perform at their peak level anymore. Nobody can do that forever. Daigo is in his 30's the new champs are early 20's and even younger in some cases. That's why Daigo isn't finishing top 8 anymore. Pit the younger prime Daigo against these new cats and it'd be a different story.

For some reason Daigo inspires confidence and resolve even though he doesnt always win, and thats a trait not many people can say they have. You always want to root for him and his adversary always becomes the bad guy. I do hope he continues in the FGC for many years more to come.

For everyone what he is saying. He is basically saying that he is two different forms come together as a whole. Like Evil Ryu and Ryu. His other counterpart is "Umehara" also known as "The Beast" When he plays it is Umehara taking control of him. He didn't know how to explain it because he blank out everything from the outside world. When you are so good that you basically create an environment that is isolated except for this one casual man who took his love for fighting games to the next level. In a sense he is like Ryu which makes him a great match. He is tiredly searching for worthy opponents. He loves a good challenge. The other form is Umehara Daigo his normal self. Very well said and a great video.

Truthfully I do not think Daigo is as good as he used to be, however I think people take this too much to the extreme. Everyone constantly goes on about him being washed out and stuff, but I think this video explains it pretty well. Street Fighter "Stole" his teen years. It was all Daigo did, all he focused on, and he became a god of gods. However, now he does so many other things, he has all these sponsors that he does events for, he's more sociable and not as emotionless as a lot of people remember, he is THE twitch ambassador of the world, so on, so forth. His attention isn't solely on street fighter anymore and I think that's why he isn't as good. But, that isn't necessarily a bad thing I mean, he is now doing so many other things and having a great time doing it so I think it's so harsh that some people say the things they do about him just because he isn't as dominant as he used to be in Street Fighter. P.S. I love the whole Diago vs Tokido rivalry as a whole just because Daigo really is Ryu and Tokido really is the raging demon. Watching those two fight is like seeing a real life battle between Ryu and Akuma and it's just so enjoyable.

I think I understand what he means. As a kid when I played sports, I used to get into the zone sometimes and just phase out, it was as if a second player took over the "controller" for a few seconds and pulled off insane moves before I got the controller back. Everytime when I came back to myself after phasing out, I'd see suprised looks on people's faces before I slowly recalled what had happened. Now it doesn't happen as often, and lasts only for split seconds.
