Yo ngl, Daigo taking a rookie player under his wing, molding him into a mini Tokido and repeatedly beating his ass just for practice sounds like an anime villain backstory to me.

Dude look up the manga Umehara Fighting Gamers. It’s a manga about Daigos career starting from his Vampire rivalry with Shinya Onuki in the 90s. There have been several smaller manga made about fighting games and the culture of the FGC but they all only got a few volumes in before getting cancelled. Hi Score Girl on Netflix is the closest thing we’ve got to an FGC anime unfortunately

@zzlai6235
@zzlai6235 4 жыл бұрын
These two legends are the true embodiments of the FGC ideals. Daigo is the ideal FGC player, analytical and mechanically skilled, as he slowly dismantles his opponents from every small mistake they make. That is the highest level gameplay of a fighting game one can reach, as in a perfect scenario, mistakes and habits are what makes a player lose in a fighting game. Tokido is the ideal embodiment of "the grind", the one thing that every single FGC player has to go through when they enter the scene. Unlike most other competitive games, a fighting game match lasts a couple minutes. That's not a lot of time to process all of your mistakes, and it takes an unimaginable amount of perseverance and grit to grind yourself to become the very best of the game you choose. These two embody the peak and the journey of all FGC players, and that's why they are legends.

Daigo will whoop him even harder I believe, he destroyed Xian at his height 10 - 0, he OBLITERATED Infiltration 10 - 2 when Infiltration was arguably at the very top of the scene. Tokido have become my favorite player in any Fighting game, his passion and dedication is unmatched, and the level of RESPECT he have for Daigo is even higher.....normal rivalries in many games are build on hate or jealousy....but both Daigo and Tokido have immense respect for each other...Daigo sees Tokido as already (even before Tokido finally defeat him in a long set) as the undeniably best SF player in the world....but Tokido didn't see it that way, for him, even if Daigo isn't winning tittles or big tournaments, Daigo in his eyes is still the definition of the BEST, he say it himself that the shadow Daigo's name projects is too big. See this rivalry founded in RESPECT is just such a joy to see, every time they meet is special no matter who win and what score they got, you can feel, their excitement, their passion for the game and the desire to be THE BEST, not because they hate each other, simply because they RESPECT THE OTHER THAT DAMN MUCH.....and see Tokido finally archive this goal and Daigo been HAPPY about....that's heartwarming .

@@thedragontactic Yes, the title is a bit misleading. I don't think either of them considers this a war on the other. I also don't think Topanga was a really fair measurement. Daigo came rather unprepared / underprepared. Especially given recent results, (Daigo beating Tokido 10-0 in another FT10 and then handily beating him for CPT Qualifier), it seems Tokido still has a way to go. I understand that it's a nice way to end this excellent tiny documentary, but stating that Tokido has become the face of Street Fighter because of that Topanga win, is a real stretch. Don't get me wrong, I like Tokido a lot and he is one of my favorite fighting game players of all time. But if you ask people which player is the most iconic Street Fighter player of all-time, I am fairly sure that Daigo will still come out on top. Probably followed by Tokido.

@holllllke123 He's won major tournaments. They just aren't named EVO or TWT. I think knee is one of the most motivated tekken players left. All the past champions in current tekken 7 lifecycle have seemed to simmer. Knee seems like the LAST of the old guard to still be consistent.

The story is amazing, had chills from hearing it. Daigo is such a legend. Tokido is like the player in Pokemon who beat the Elite 4 and the Champion to become the current Champion but Daigo is like Red, the legend in the story who people whispers of his tales of glory. You finally met and face him, only to realize that the tale is really true, he's truly the legend.

You don't get this type of storyline in FPS and MOBA. You just don't. It's great that you got Mago's take on this since he was teammates with the both of them during their Madcatz days.

I think its just because its a 1v1 genre vs the other 5v5 genres. Everything you do in a fighting game is generally all you.

its because its 1v1. I wish there was more 1v1 esports game with a real, healthy scene. the FGC isnt healthy sadly. but its way more epic. So im stuck playing team games because its where the best scenes are at.

It's because FGC is grassroots. Other esports have to keep that squeaky clean image, so less incentive to have story lines

Tokido winning and, more importantly, Punk losing Evo 2017 was one of the most satisfying grand finals to watch in Street Fighter 5 imo. Seeing that man put Punk in the place someone's been needing to put him in for months was a sight to see and there was no one more deserving of that privilege and payment then Tokido.

tbh Akuma in sfv was like a christmas gift for Tokido, he got everything you could wish for your main character, it was a gamechanger. Sfv is a game with few devensive mechanics and Akuma is an offense Monster.
