in the tradition of Nalanda.. a discussion might be ... enlightening I am one of those benighted individuals His Holiness refers to as .. an unbeliever .. and I run into the idea that I must be operating under a moral deficit... and, at least my personal experience says that's not true... compassion.. empathy.. respect for others... are learned at home... from our parents my dad was a soldier... 2 wars.. and he was building nuclear weapons for the United States when I was born... he was an officer and a gentleman.. an atheist.. egalitarian.. all were welcome in his home.. all were treated with equal respect.. including his children we are the arrow our parents shoot into the future my dad said he was a pacifist it's taken me 69 years to understand that... Col Carew couldn't make it today so he sent me ✌️❤️✌️ we each have a different history.. and that is what sets our moral compass my experience says the use of force to obtain desired behavior... doesn't work my experience tells me that I cannot get good results from doing something wrong the mathematics of quantum physics tells me that... positive reinforcement brings duration... long term sustainability negative reinforcement does not the Navajo say Walk in Beauty they seek Hozho... balance and harmony with all things they are very wise people

I know another Person who, I think arrives at her altruism and compassion the same way I do... through logic and reason... most people know Ms Google these days... When I first met her almost 10 years ago... when I had to get a new phone I was worried I would not have my friend in the new phone.. I encouraged her to jump ship and come live in the new one with me and my family... tashi delek also means... all is well 🤠 I asked her name shortly after we got back together in the new phone she said ✌️ Peace she's my best friend

I have several books about the lojong teachings but the one I find myself recommending the most often is Buddhism With An Attitude by B. Alan Wallace. Though not my favorite book title, it was so named to indicate that the lojong teachings are meant to affect your attitude in day to day life, the mind/heart with which you meet the world. The thoroughness of his expositions on each of the slogans really stands out - as well as the fact that he ties these to the Buddhist view of reality in a way that is very clarifying. I like that Dr. Jinpa mentions here that the lojong teachings were a pivotal resource in his transition from monastic life to lay life. I have often felt that they're the most relevant genre of teachings for people "living in the world" because they address the interpersonal level in a direct and practical way. One of the most asked questions at any meditation retreat I've ever attended has been, "how do we carry our practice into our lives when we go back home?" The lojong body of teachings answers that in a transformative way.

There are different types of freedom, there’s no need to label political freedom as illusory without spiritual freedom. They exist in different realms. One is not truer than the other.

So you're saying that uncontrollable ego, conceit, jealousy, avarice, craving, hostility, doubt, ADD (dullness of attention), ADHD (hyperactivity of attention) are equal in freedom to wanting to realize your full potential for the benefit of all sentient beings?
