This Schwarzkopf triple looper is the world's tallest, longest and fastest indoor coaster, but it's mostly known for a terrible accident that occurred in June 1986 when a wheel sheered off the last car of the train and it smashed into a concrete pillar at high speed killing three of the riders.
Evidence showed that Fantasyland, now called Galaxyland, had ignored a special inspection order from the General Safety Services Division and cars were checked only by visual inspections and not by taking them out from service.
Following the accident the cars were redesigned. Existing four-car trains were converted to three-car trains, reducing capacity from 16 to 12 passengers per train. Additionally seat belts and a shoulder headrest were added, the retaining bolt was moved to the top of the axle, where it is easily inspected, while maintenance checks and scheduled maintenance downtimes were significantly increased. Following these changes the coaster has been accident-free.
