@@bensmithkent22 I actually really like the Ray episodes. I think Webster had big boots to fill but at least created an original character instead of copying Waterman. Most people don't even know the Shane Ritchie incarnation exists so they can't blank it out. I have watched all of them though (and all the George Cole episodes.)

1:34. Just love the scheming/ devious look on George Cole's face when Terry starts enquiring about the job vacancy and it looks like he might be about to lose him (and the way G.C. slowly approaches into the shot from behind Terry). You can tell the cogs are whirring. "No you ain't my son, you're staying with me" is what G.C. is saying to himself. Absolute top-notch acting. He makes it appear so effortless and natural. For these 8 secs. or so he doesn't say anything, hardly moves and hardly does anything, yet he is the one that's really acting, not D.W. and the lady. Rest In Peace Mr Cole. You thoroughly deserve it for all the joy and laughter you brought

Jobcentres today are very different from how they were back in the 1980s. The contrast is stunning. It's a trip down memory lane to be reminded of how it was. They're more about policing claimants these days. Their role has changed beyond all recognition.

Arthur is the classic "spiv". Poor Terry - the way he says he has a "season ticket to the casualty ward". I laughed out loud at that line. Every line and gesture was brilliant in this marvelous program. Even the way Arthur says the words "civilians" and even more disdain for the word "workers" made me laugh. And his hollow phony grab for his wallet - and his faster retraction was gold - typical Arthur.

Who is Terry McAnn? an ex Boxer in his early 40s, single, and working as an errand boy for a two-bit scam merchant, he seems pretty smart and intelligent, he's also streetwise but he lacks confidence and perhaps self-esteem, I'm imagining something traumatic happened to him as a youngster.
